Today, we have a special treat, and for that, we put down the good old 12 gauge and turn our attention to the 28 gauges. Why? Because they are fun to shoot, light and thereby easy to carry, and they do their job reliably.
OK, we all see the elephant in the room. 12 gauge shotguns have overtaken 28 gauges a long time ago, and there are good reasons for that. However, likewise, the AR15 has overtaken guns in .22LR. Has this brought the end to .22LR? No, as it still has its advantages to shoot these weak loads out of light rifles. the 28 gauge is not necessarily a weak load, but it has a range of light guns and shoots with almost no recoil.

This Year I’ll be using a CZ O/U and Tri Star SxS 28ga’s for Quail hunting. Looking forward to getting out in the field.

I got my 28 SxS two years ago. I rarely pull my 20 out of the gun safe anymore. This 28 has been successful on a wide spectrum of wild bird species. It's light weight, versatility and fun-factor will crank your hunting experiences up BIG time, especially if you are a "mature" hunter. I like this video and even though I own a Remington 870 TB - my first shotgun - I would not include a pump or a semi for upland hunting. I would not exclude them for waterfowling though. JMO

Don't underestimate the 28ga, it's all I shoot anymore including for geese. I kill just as many if not more with my 28 than I ever did with my 12.

I shoot a Franchi 28 gauge for Pheasant Chukar Huns and Sharp-tail. Mine has a 3inch chamber. use Fioochi shells throwing 1 1/16 oz great load does the job fun at the range too

Bettinsolli do a fantastic o/u in 28g. Got one for under £500 in the UK. Ideal for walked-up pheasant in the North of England

I have both a silver pigeon and the onyx 686's. I prefer the onyx. It has 26"barrels and I prefer short barrels rabbit and grouse hunting. Also the onyx has a sporting safety instead of a hunting safety

I am a big guy who upland hunts. I currently shoot a cheapy Walmart 20gauge. With todays ammo, I want a 28 because they are so light and fast to swing.

28 has pattern density. I had issues on Dakota pheasants beyond 25 yards that was with 6 shot

Always wanted to fire a 28 and 16 gauges as I've never fired either of these borderline obscure ones well I suppose 10 gauge too but it's a tad more common.

@@Nathan-zj7io I'd say in order of popularity;12 ga,20ga/.410(about the same),28 ga,10 ga,16 ga,9mm Flobert and one's like 8ga,24ga and 32 ga hard to classify as they are too uncommon.

Why did you skip the M37 Ithaca? Brand new in 2010? And about one pound lighter than the 870.

@@daltonbecker4494 technically yes. However six months ago when I spoke with an Ithaca employee, no new M37s in any gauge were being built. Ithaca company buys American steel for production. And the pandemic created supply issues that did not exist before: lack of vaccinated commercial truck drivers, steel plants shut down, middlemen unable to find kiln dried lumber for stocks, etc. All of these factors were conspiring against production. I am not sure if they have resumed business.

beware .28ga for hunting any thing will do, sporting clays or clay shooting every weekend you need to reach the target , forget about it's heavy it's too wide it's too etc you need to reach 32 inch and up , if you get lucky you will found one

The narrator for this must have been hired. Can’t even pronounce simple names like Fabarm, or Boxlock. Nothing like having a reviewer who knows absolutely zero about shotguns. Thumbs down cringe.
