I didn't read all the comments and your answers, maybe you have already answered this. What software and computer are you using for this? Just windows and the software from the laser company? Awesome video, I had no idea all this could be done with a laser. Your learning curve/ teaching curve is very fast.

Skyler do you know if this laser can engrave wooden pens? Also, is there a way to vent this laser so all that smoke is not left lingering in the work area? Thi s was a very informative video. I am currently in the market for one, just not sure which one. If I decide on the Longer, I will definitely get it so that your channel gets a contribution. Thank you again!

Great video! For a long time I've been going back and forth about whether I really want and/or would use a laser engraver. I think your video has convinced me to give it a go. Btw, it seems the cost of lasers have come down quite a bit recently. Last time I looked a 30w in this price range was out of the question.

Excellent production, as always. I am richer in time than in money but function is very important to me. What, other than the time spent in additional repetitions of cuts would I be giving up by buying a 10W laser? Given enough time can a 10W cut through the same thickness wood as a 30W? Thanks.
@woodworkingwithSkyler
@woodworkingwithSkyler 10 ай бұрын
no, it can not. doesnt matter how many times you cut over same area it has a limit. 10 W can cut materials but not very thick ones . 10 W ones are great if you do engraving. If you are planning on cutting, you should consider a 20W as that 10 W is very Limited in cutting

Skyler, in all the other vids I saw on lasers, they always warn you about the sometimes toxic smell from the laser operation. They even recommend air extraction. Any comments?
@woodworkingwithSkyler

Yes, laser produces smoke and smells terrible. Thats why is recommended to have an enclosure with exhaust . I have one for each of my lasers but didnt use it for the video. I will show it when I film the review of Creality Falcon 2 laser

Okay that pretty much settles it. I'd been shopping around, looking at those cheap CNCs, thinking about doing a conversion. But this looks like a far better way to go.

Funny thing is yesterday I took a CNC class. Cnc is far more expensive and harder to use. The program is really expensive too. Cnc also take a lot of space in shop
@madwilliamflint
@madwilliamflint 10 ай бұрын
@@woodworkingwithSkylerTrue. I've got some light machining background, so my mind goes in the direction of CNC quite naturally. But I think it's time to stop thinking of laser engravers/cutters as "crippled CNCs."
@woodworkingwithSkyler
@woodworkingwithSkyler 10 ай бұрын
@@madwilliamflint it all depends on what you want to do. I’d you want to do 3d carving CNC is the one to go. Also depends on how good you are with computers. I had a company reach out to me and the wanted to gift me a Cnc in return for an honest review. My immediate reaction was”yes” . But then looked into it and first thing I saw was that most good CNC programs only work on Windows. The only one that work on Mac is Fusion 360. But that is the most advanced program, hard to learn and it cost almost $600 a year. I still consider it and thought about buying a Windows pc just for this and signed up for a Cnc class at my local Rockler store so I can learn more about it. I then saw, this is not the machine for me and lasers is so much easier, less space and cheaper. Talking about lasers, Xtool contact me and offered me a CO2 laser in return for an honest review. ($5000 machine). I had to say no because it’s a big heavy machine that I don’t have the space in my shop for. CO2 machines are better then diode lasers( faster and more powerful) but comes with a price, more space, heavier, more maintenance etc. you need to look at what works for you, what you need it for and what tool will give you that at what cost

@woodworkingwithSkyler 10 ай бұрын
Here is my honest opinion. If you are doing just engraving, go with Xtool 20W. If you do engraving and cutting then: if money is a issue, get Longer 30W . It comes with air assist and is under 1000$. You still need to buy enclosure and honey comb. If money is not an issue, get Xtool 40w and buy the air pump, enclosure and honey comb grid. Whatever you choose if you decide to buy one please use my link…. Thank you

@@nicholaskindred929 enclosure is a box like a tent that your machine sits it. It has a window do you can see your machine, a “door” that either unzips or is a magnetic flap so so can access the machine and an exhaust fen with a hose so all the smoke produced it vented out ( you need to put machine next to a window or door so you can stick out the hose. When cutting it produces a lot of smoke and fumes is not good to breathe. The enclosure will help with that. They are not expensive. Each brand has their own or you could purchase 3th party on Amazon just make just it fits your machine frame.
