Detailed wash and go steps for the No Butters No Oils 30 Day Detox to get the best results on 4c hair.
II use a very strong sulphate shampoo that is very stripping to the hair so I skipped the clarifying shampoo. I’d also gone a whole month and a half without adding much oil to my hair due to focusing on moving halfway across the United States. The most important thing is paying attention to your hair and what it needs in the moment. I typically use creams and oils lightly and don’t use heavy butters, greases, or oils on a consistent basis. Whenever I use heavy products I follow up with a sulphate shampoo and I clarify my hair as needed. The clarifying shampoo I typically use is Kinky Curly Come Clean.
I’m also very familiar with wash and gos and what works on my hair, so my starting point for this particular style is further along than someone who has never tried this before. I spent a full year working out my wash and go technique before this day, so my learning curve wasn’t significant.
The main purpose of this detox is to get reintroduced to your hair and its characteristics so that you can choose the products and techniques for the styles and goals you want to achieve. I’ve used sulfate shampoos every week for nearly a year, so I don’t have a ton of buildup to begin with. Hey - if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it. I’m trying this detox as an experiment and to scratch my inquisitive itch. This is week one.

Critical to limiting SSKs is a good cut and keeping our hair hydrated. Since starting this process and about 14 wash and go's later, SSKs are very limited. I did get a trim in April, prior to starting the detox. I absolutely love this process and two days ago, I had my shortest wash and style session ever, including blow drying; 1.5 hours!!! Woo Hoo.
@1GoldenBreeze
@1GoldenBreeze 3 жыл бұрын
I've been doing this since 2008, and SSK's are minimal for me. I tend to trim once each season or as needed. I was never good at twisting or braiding so WnG just worked for me. Plus the ease of having my hair styled when I step out of the shower within 20 - 30 min is great for me.
@michelleej

I think how you set your hair and how much you manipulate your hair can either prevent, or set you up for knots. I'm deliberate about how I set my curls. My hair stays pretty well clumped through the week, so it's not free to tangle.

I've seen a few comments say this trend was NOT great for their high porosity hair. I have fine, low density, high porosity hair, it needs something oily to keep from tangling, as the strands glide easily. I wash my hair 2-3x/week with conditioner, occasionally with diluted shampoo, it loves oils and leave-ins and I only use 2 gels, wetline or flax-seed gel. It feels and stays hydrated, it's growing and retaining length. It doesn't need to be "detoxed", I'm not even sure what that means. My motto is 'do what works for you' regardless of the newest trend.

Fab Latoya! You are such a hair scientist without even trying! 😍😍Your hair is going from strength to strength. I have a high density of hair and I noticed in the shower you spread the gel and mousse in one hit... I find for me it’s easier if I smooth my styling product on sectioned hair. Doesn’t even have to be lots of sections. can even be four sections. This enables me to capture all my hair evenly and also prevents too much product in certain areas which reduces my drying time. Another thing that’s been helpful for me is, like you I drench the hair with water and smooth the gel in straight after and then I squish the hair to check if it adequately conditioned and if I feel/hear a squishing sound that lets me know if it’s enough water or gel then I coat that with my mousse. If I do not hear a squishing sound that lets me know either my hair has already dried off the water and I need to add more water or it’s not enough gel applied. This is key to a bomb result and as your hair gets used to this routine it gets easier and quicker for water and product to penetrate...the hair mimics a sponge.

You might just have a different curl pattern in the front. That’s common! That’s a question so many would love an answer too lol! The only thing I’ve seen that works is manipulation. Like doing a twist out/braid out/roller set all over your head to fake the patterns matching. You could also try to Bobby pin the roots so the bangs appear shorter.

I do not believe hair care should involve anything that can be an occupational hazard not to mention the mess of splattered product everywhere on my shower glass no ma’am. @LaToyaEbonyHair
@LaToyaEbonyHair 3 жыл бұрын
No, this shampoo is not labeled as clarifying. It definitely “strips” my hair, but I used this because I needed the treatment element it provides. The course states to begin with the products you have and upgrade from there. So that’s what I’m doing. I’m still learning from the course, but I think any haircare professional wouldn’t tell a client to forgo any treatments for the sake of a preferred routine. I think it’s a great question to bring to them. Perhaps a clarifying shampoo would have also worked for my scalp too. The cool thing is, it’s a process that can always be improved upon.

Wash and gos can work an anyone’s hair, but you have to accept whatever your hair does as a result. If you don’t like shrinkage, wash and gos might not be for you (unless you use a stretching method) It extenuates what you already have.

@LaToyaEbonyHair
@LaToyaEbonyHair 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think there's much difference at all in terms of using humectants. The main difference is UFD has hold and the Aloe Vera does not. This method uses two stylers to achieve the result, so the gel is in the place of where I would normally use Aloe Vera in this process. Great question!
