Nexx helmets are the glaring omissions from this list, which I’m assuming is because RMATVMC doesn’t carry them. The Nexx X.WED2 Carbon is more ADV/on-road focused and had an internal flip-down visor. The Nexx X.WRL Carbon is more dual-sport/off-road focused with greater airflow and more open for better goggle compatibility. Both are premium finish, lightweight helmets with lots of features.

The Arai xd4 is about the most well balanced adv helmet out there. Not the best for pure offroad and not the best for pure onroad but it strikes a perfect balance, which is tough to do. I also like the way arai prioritizes confort and crash performance over lightweight. Too many helmets sacrifice too much to achieve reduced weight.

I have the LS2 carbon version. If you take out the drop down sunvisor (which the KRIOS does not have) the helmet is probably the same weight as the Krios. I purchased mine from Europe over a year ago, shipped from the Netherlands because it was not available state side. It also has pinlock and comes with the pinlock shield free, not mentioned in review. The ls2 is true long oval fit, this is why I cannot wear my KRIOS for more than an hour, the shape does not fit my head. The LS2 has seen multiple BDR's, and I ride offroad trails 2 to 3 times per week. It accommodates my cardo unit without issue and without interfering with sun shield slide. I also own the scorpion and the bell shown in this review. The Scorpion is comfortable, but way to heavy and the BELL is no thrills. My riding buddies have both the Arai and the shoei, both great helmets. In my opinion the LS2 Carbon is the best bang for the buck (if it fits your head shape). I can wear the LS2 longer than any other helmet I own (I own close to 20 helmets). Fitting your head shape is more important than anything else, if it's not comfortable, it's a distraction and that's bad. The LS2 carbon for the price is by far the most amazing adventure helmet. I should mention the Krios which has been used way less than the LS2 and purchased after it, is on its way back for warranty repair as chin strap push stud came out of strap. No issues with LS2 after copious miles.

With out a doubt, looking at the countless improvements, accessories that I buy for my enjoyment and abilities to ride all day, of endless dirt adventure riding, a light weight helmet is it. Nothing I have gets more appreciation for its contribution to my long days in the saddle than having as much weight of my neck as possible. I'll cheap out in many areas just to have a light weight, obviousily Carbon helmet. After countless helmets purchasing a carbon Fibre cap made more difference to my over all enjoyment and level of fatigue than anything else I own.

How's the sound inside the lid? Been wearing MX-9s for years, but tinnitus and hyperacusis are forcing me into something more quiet. I generally have no issues with my RF-1200 and 1300. @@orangelion03 I think without ear plug s all helmets are a bit noisy. Have done some longer rides, and it really leaves a red spot on my head and indention. Can't help my odd head shape. I've been wearing the scorpion helmet for about 4 years now. I really like it. Main reason I picked it up was because with a medium helmet I can put in small cheek pads to make the helmet fit better.

I currently run an Arai xd4, I've had the klim krios and the shoei before. I went with the Arai XD4 and love it. It is a tiny bit on the heavy side though. It's super quite and really fog resistant because of so many vents. Also lots of options for alternative cheek pad sizes to get the fit perfect. Also with the Arai you can wear goggles and the visor still closes perfectly without hitting the strap. They might all do that but it's a neat feature. A negative is it takes a bit of time taking the visor on and off to clean it properly. My Shoei road helmet is super quick and easy but you need to unscrew 4 plastic screws for the Arai. I'm overall very happy with my LS2, especially for the price. I really like that the sun visor covers most of the eye port. Ventilation is excellent, noise isn't terrible, peak is tolerable on the highway. One small gripe is that it's pretty tight in the cheeks, though this has eased as it breaks in. One larger gripe is the locking visor. I think this feature is just plain dumb on anything but a track-focused helmet-why on earth would they put it on an ADV lid?! I have never *once* had a visor fly open on me unintentionally on a motorcycle, even at "straight to jail" speeds. I have, however, inadvertently locked this one several times and then struggled to get it back open (it's a two-handed job) while I approach a stoplight. I'll probably take a Dremel to the locking lug to fix this 'feature'.

Arai’s main and only flaw is the weight. It weighs like a brick on your head, and it will give you headaches on long days.. But built quality is far above anything else (Shoei coming a close second). The Klim is a very comfortable helmet, and the lack of weight is what makes it a winner, but built quality (and longevity) is nowhere near Arai

Would be nice if these videos expressed what shaped heads the helmets cater for. All the features in the world and so on don't mean jack if the helmets are the wrong shape and doesn't fit correctly. Just about every helmet now days is built with a medium/oval head shape. There are certain brands that do fit certain head shapes better than others, but it's very subjective to the riders. I know riders who say they have a long/oval head and say that the bell fits them fine. If you have found a couple brands that you feel fit the best, then I would just stick with those if you haven't had luck with anything else. - Chase

The Shoei definitely is a little heavier feeling than the Arai, but I don't know how much more noticeable it would be to you. I'd like to buy from you guys, but you only offer the XD-4 up to XL. Any plans you carry the XXL, even in just the solid colors? Kind of crazy that needing a bigger helmet makes it so dang hard to buy a helmet, let alone being able to try one on. Nobody keeps anything on hand for anybody outside the middle of the pack sizes.

I bought the Arai after much consideration only to find out that it has absolutely no way to put in comms. You have to attach speakers to the removable cheek pads, which is a huge pain. I'm not sure what the Shoei is like, but if it's like my Neotech, I would much prefer that system to add a communicator to stuffing speakers in the cheek pads.

@@carpentergirl08 It's possible to do with the Arai, but my Shoei is built with room for speakers in the foam shell instead of squishing them into the cheek pads. Eventually I will cut a bit out of my cheek pads for clearance, but I hate the idea of cutting any piece of a $600 helmet

The description between the dirt MX9 and the ADV MX9 is NOT accurate. The material used in them is very different. The ADV MX9 has like a swade feel and the dirt MX9 has a "normal" fabric feel , or what is typical. I think Rocky Mountain just wants you to buy one, doesn't matter which one. I have not been impressed with Rocky Mountains service.
@rmatvmc

When comparing the MX-9 and MX-9 ADV helmets we were referring to the shell shape and polycarbonate/ABS construction being similar between the 2. You are correct about the interior liners being different materials. We have more in-depth videos on both these helmets where we go over more detail, including the interior. You can check those videos out below. Bell MX-9 MX: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rKqKfquonNyrqqM.html Bell MX-9 Adventure: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b61hg9KVxJ7Lpas.html

Frustraighting how little helmet innovation/technology has made it's way through to this adventure category and very evident in selection of lids chosen in this video. A modified plastic shelled budget motoX helmet with a visor thats been around for years, a chinese carbon shelled Nishua for double the price and a decade old Arai... none of which have any kind of innovative anti-rotational force mitigation technology; except for the cheapest helmet in the line-up with MIPS that is invaldiated by its weght, eps uniformity and poor quality shell material. Where are the 6D ATR2, Fly Formula Carbon, Moto 9 Flex, AGV K6's of this class actually trying to provide an improved product to the market :/
