Best Advice to Learn the Godot GDScript Quickly

This video goes over my best advice to you on how to learn the GDScript, If your new to Godot or game development then this video will be so beneficial and will speed up the learning process of creating games. Learning to make games isn't easy but doing it the right way will not only help you learn quicker but it will also allow to retain the knowledge better and become a better game developer. Some Godot tips and tricks that'll for sure help you on your journey are towards the end of this video.

My favorite thing about GDScript is the documentation, and how it's integrated into the godot editor. As someone with not much experience in the language, find it really useful and comprehensible for learning what everything in the language and the engine is able to do, as well as being very well structured and written

One thing ive learned, is even if you don't understand something, keep doing it. Eventually it will click. Exposure strengthens connections.

Some suggestions yet again: interrupting animations for parrying, isometric tilemaps. On that note, it would be nice if you'd comment on whether it's better to have animated tiles in Godot or make a map using some other program like Tiled and then putting animated details on top of that in Godot.

personally I thing tutorial videos are best to learn.. but only if you pay attention and actually try and understand what is going on. I think the docs are great if you dont understand how something works then you can go look it up in the docs and learn about it. Just my advice and what I did when I was getting started! hope that helps! thank you!

yes it should all be applicable to each other.. but of course certain variables and things would have to be changed to match that of the rpg game

like how helpful would reading the make your own computer game with python book be cause i want to learn gdscript cause its easier then c# which i quit cause i felt like i wasnt making any progress and i feel like if i just start reading the book alot (i hate reading) i would eventually quit learning it for another couple months like i did with c# (idk if this makes sense its the middle of the night so if your confused just ask pls)

makes total sense, I have the same issue! I would recommend not reading it then.. I say do online tutorials of gdscript.. and work within the engine.. I say that is the best idea for right now! so you dont bore yourself out in the first week!

Hi devworm can you help me. Is there any best way to save array of resource? So basically I'm making array of Item (Which is player inventory), and the size of array is dynamic (can append and erase). I tried to do something like looping i to array.size() and using resourcesaver.save but the file is always empty, so when I tried to load it using resourceloader it returns null. I also tried assert==OK but it always said assertion is failed. Do you have solution? Or please make tutorial of it pls.

@@rosterison2192 google "learn to code from zero gdscript" and click the first result, and use that. It's what I'm using. It's an interactive tutorial that will take you through the very basics and will give you problems you have to solve yourself after each lesson. and it's updated.

I was in the same boat. He said "Type hints". They let Godot know what a variable is. This way, it helps autocomplete give you the right options. Ex. var HP (Godot: ? ) var HP = 50 (oh it's an integer!) var HP = 50.0 (ah, a float, gotcha) You could also say var HP : float = 50 and it will convert it to 50.0. It is helpful to give type hints whenever possible. HP : Node3D vs HP : MeshInstance3D gives totally different autocomplete options when trying to type "HP.something". Hope it helps, I was here. lol
