I have the SV503/80mm ED version with the field flattener. The R&P focuser is buttery smooth and a joy to use and the scope has absolutely minimal chromatic aberration given that it's a doublet design. It's superb. Everything about these scopes is beautifully constructed. The field flattener while quite an expensive addition is very well worth buying is astrophotography is your thing. There is also a 102mm ED scope in the range. SvBONY also make some of the best Plossl eyepieces I've bought. This is my forever portable refractor scope.

It's a very nice little scope. Small short focus refractors are very versatile and produce very acceptable images, and when used visually, they can deliver stunning wide field views when paired with an eyepiece capable of handling their fast f-ratios. What you describe as an inconvenience isn't really an issue ( for me ). I never liked the vixen rail, so I purchased a 7 inch ADM dovetail plate and the shoe to fit a Stellarvue unit power red dot finder, and you're good. That's my setup for a W.O. Megrez 72fd, which is similar to your set up. Thanks for the review. Clear Skies.

Thanks for the great review. It helps me make a purchase decision. But please let me point out a common error that many You Tubers make in talking about ED glass. Dispersion is a bad thing. ED glass helps to prevent dispersion. I believe ED glass actually means extra low dispersion glass. Not extra dispersion (dispersion is bad). I am no expert, and I will apologize if I am wrong. But on this matter I am quite confident.

Based on this review and some others, I bought this little scope along with it's dedicated field flattener / reducer for astrophotography. Unfortunately the experience I had with this scope fell quite short of the praise given here on this channel. First, the flattener / reducer failed to flatten all stars except for the very center. Within a 4/3 crop field of view, there is sever elongation starting about half way towards the edges of the frame becoming almost comet like at the edges. Secondly, I expected some chromatic aberration since this scope is only a doublet with ED glass, but what this scope delivers are pretty much all purple stars. It may be suited for observational astronomy, but for astrophotography this scope is basically unusable in my opinion.
