Today we find possibly the best anchorage ever, but also one of the most dangerous too. Come and explore this absolute gem of a spot with us.
Today we anchor our sailing boat ready for a storm, with lots of rain and gale force winds in an anchorage that's new to us.
If you want to check out our anchorages guide then you can do so here, I'd totally free and we hope it's of some use to you all, just our way of trying to give something back to what has been the most supportive community of people. www.cadoha.com/britishanchorages

80 years old, with high blood pressure for half of that, with medications, and a damned good doctor (or ohio state medical center), you can live a good life. So cheer up, much love and support, you should live to become an old man. ps - that is when you need to be really strong, for getting old is not for the faint of heart.

Wonderful … Two smaller, high-quality sailing channels I thoroughly enjoy have officially connected! … In FGS’s most recent episode, I commented and suggested they reach out to Cadoha, since they shared adjacent marina slips. Great to see camaraderie on the high seas!🎉

I'm also a younger healthy individual who can has concerningly high blood pressure readings at times. What I learned after getting a home tester and using it a ton was that a massive part of my high blood pressure was being worried I was going to have high blood pressure. It can be hard to get yourself to fully unwind before taking the pressures but at least for me the difference is an easy 20-30 points, it can be closer to 40 points if a doctor is stressing me out too. So things might not be as bad as they at first appear.

Out trick for rolly anchorages is a 10kg detachable aft anchor with 10m of 10mm chain (and 30m of rope). If the wind picks up, we mark it with a fender and just let it go. Otherwise we can switch it side to side, pull it in tighter or let it loser depending on the waves and the wind. It has saved many a nights sleep and therefore we named it Valium. 😊

There is a syndrome known as “white coat syndrome “. This happens to some that experience high blood pressure due to stress of going to the Dr office or in your case it could be just taking your no. Go back onboard your home with that lovely lass on one side of you and dog on the other, relax and take another reading. Best of luck and thanks immensely for your calming voice and your wonderful videos!

Yes, that's what a GP told me I had about twelve years ago when I told her that there was something wrong with my heart. I saw one of her partners later that week and was instantly diagnosed with heart failure (cardiomyopathy), and sent off for stents. You'd best stick to whatever it is you do best.

In order of importance So glad you have had others tell you that controlling high blood pressure with meds need not change your life. Just showed this video to a size 6 mid 50's lady who looks 20 years younger and has the same issue. She leads an active life and although she is (sadly) not into sailing watched the video when I pointed out your medical condition, avidly, nooding and a with a smile of recognition, as to your shock on realising you have a potential life changing condition. "The meds will hopefully restore your confidence", was her response. Please keep us updated. YES, we'd like a specific video on the rolling issue. Take care.

Dom, I too have high blood pressure, so I know the drill and the worry, #1 you didn't seem to follow the rules of BP taking, on the second reading. feet flat on the floor, back supported, no talking , no looking at the meter while it is working, no coffee or tea for at least 1/2 hour before, rest for at least 5 minutes.....also the wrist model is cheaper that the cuff type but they are not very accurate. Now for the good news eating less salt helps, the medications work really well, I run at 124 over 74 , resting heart rate below 60 bpm and I was born in the 1950s so I'm quite a bit older than you. Don't give up hope, good you caught it early. Cheers and big hug for Carly and Hank

..... when you go to see the Doc, they do not do the test right away in my experience. There is always a bit of a chat and then the cuff goes on. Consequently when I go to use the one at the drugstore I sit and relax and also control my breathing cause in the Doc's office one is relaxed. I also do it three times in succession. You'll get this sorted .... love that you introduced 6 to lobster that couldn't be fresher .... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....

Sorry to hear you're going through high BP problems too ... A recent bout of high BP (206/136) killed my plans to set off and sail solo around the UK in June/July/August of this year. Whilst it is now finally starting to settle down, it has taken a lot of experimentation with drugs as I had some nasty adverse effects from the preferred ones (Ramipril and Candesartan both resulted in severe insomnia) :(. I hope you get this sorted soon! At least you have Carly there to look after you (you lucky lucky man!) :). Loving the videos and the anchorage guide!!

High blood pressure is a serious issue that you definitely want to treat. But having it myself I can say that, at least for me, it is easily and well controlled with medication. Various meds have various side-effects, the first one I took caused me to have a mild asthma like cough, so let your doctor know if you have anything weird, but even so it been easy to treat. Best of luck!

Its hard to get an accurate measurement with the wrist BP devices. They're good for measuring change, but the measurement can vary wildly between attempts. Perhaps take a set over 10 mins and use the average. My other half has hypertension, and we found an upper arm machine in a Lloyds chemist. Still reads differently to the ones the docs use, but its more consistent.

Some of us seem to hold over from our food, a lot of purines from things such as lamb, pork, beef and shellfish - like lobster. Purines are responsible for adding too much Uric acid to those bodies who are not equipped to handle the overdose. With too much Uric acid comes high blood pressure. And that is worth looking at in your case.

Wow! Stunning anchorage! And crackin video as always. High blood pressure isn't anything to worry about... Don't take chemicals or poisons like pharmaceuticals to sort it. Easily controlled naturally... Check out the DASH diet. Reduce your sodium intake, increase your potassium intake. Sleep deprivation is normally a big factor... I've heard you say you're a night owl! I'm the same, but a better sleeping pattern maybe!? I'd say reduce your stress levels, but we live on a boat! Theres no reducing stress with the life we live lol Take care and God bless 💙🦴💜

So sorry about the BP. 162 over 106 in particular isn’t wonderful news, but it can be treated. Life can go on and some foodstuffs can help. Interested in the Rainman. I presume you have a 12v electric model? And success with a bridle to control rocking would definitely be interesting. This is usually use to prevent yaw with a ‘flopper stopper’ for rolling, so learning what you have done that works would be really good. Finally, might be worth having more than 6x anchor scope to help with ‘bad ones’. 7x is not unusual, and 10x can be good in heavy winds

I am thinking of going to Babbacombe later this week from Dartmouth in my HR34, Kanda Spirit, so we may pass by you if you ride out the storm at Anstey on Wednesday. Wave heights predicted to be over 5m off the Lizard! Very good that you have found out about your BP and are getting it looked into. Every 6 months I take 3 readings in the morning and 3 in the evening for 2 weeks and average them all. The 3rd reading is usually lowest and mornings are higher than evenings which I think is common. I can share a spreadsheet which does all the calcs for you. The GP loves it. BW John

We have a roughly metre square of 9mm plywood on Amanita that we hang over the side with a weight under it, about 1.5 metres down. This damps the rolling considerably. Its hung on the tops'l halyard and held out about 6 foot by the boat hook. Better would probably be one each side but it is starting to be a lot of gear to carry and handle. Keep up the good work! M

Video on swell bridles would be great. So it's surprising what can make your blood pressure go up, it's not so much about the environment you're in more what youre doing- even sitting up having your arm bent rather than lying down and rubbing hank talking to carly can change it, next time try lying flat on your back (or semirecumbant - a bit propped up) and doing literally nothing for 5 minutes before hand and doing it. All in all though taking a Ramipril a morning/cutting down on salt isn't the worst thing in the world. Good Luck! Lovely video! And a fantastic anchorage.

Along with long QT syndrome its one of the more common problems. Hydration and if needs be meds will help tou get things back in balance... Meantime ditch the salt and sugar and easy on the pop.😉 Good Sleep is also important. 👍🏼

High BP ... meds will almost certainly sort it. Ramipril can cause a tickly cough after a while but there are plenty of alternatives. Make sure you get them to put you on a decent Statin 🙂 sooooooo many health benefits

I don't often comment, but don't put too much faith in to the results that the wrist bp machine is giving you. They rarely ever come close to my correct blood pressure. Also blood pressure meds are not a problem. Hoping for the best for you.

Hi Dom. I could see your dissapointment regarding your blood pressure reading. Dont worry, I had higher numbers than you have here and thanks to a bit of medication and some supplements I take, it's now well under controll and it will be for you too mate. don't be downhearted........ and its really good you have found out now rather than later. If you want to know what helped me, do get back to me.
