My friend, you absolutely need more recognition for the help you provide for leopard gecko owners. I’ve had my gecko for 4 years and due to a lack of knowledge, I have not been caring for it correctly. Up until 3 months ago I was using bad substrate, the wrong lighting, a terrible feeding schedule, and no help with stuck shed. As I grew older I realised my mistakes and my leo Dexter has been on a really great recovery road and is looking better than I have ever seen him. This is largely thanks to discovering your channel, and also Snake Discovery. These two channels have enlightened me and made me realise that I am not treating him right, and opened my eyes to how unhealthy he was. Luckily there was nothing serious. He was way too skinny but luckily not to the point where it was dangerous. Thank you my friend, please keep doing this. You’ve saved my gecko and I’m sure many others ❤

Why do some people take things personal! He is clearly saying what he experienced and what he feels is the best for geckos. Nobody is forced to watch the video or change their ways. As a new gecko owner, I found this to be very helpful, so thank YOU!

I use a reptile mat. It’s great for cleaning, no risk of snagging teeth/claws, or impaction.

It is. It's the worst thing to use next to calci-sand. Between the fact that you can never fully clean it, it snags teeth and nails, and is overall just gross

I have been upset due to so called facebook groups. My gecko would be dead by now if i wasnt doing things right. Said everything i have is wrong for him/her still a baby. Was tokd the vivarium is wrong, substrate, lighting. Friend has exactly the same setup and her gecko is thriving

Some facebook groups are very stuck to their ways and will guickly judge people on their setups. But if it works for you personally, then that's fine 🙂

I have a snow blizzard gecko. I've used reptile carpet for about 10 years with him so far. I tend to like it the best. I think all the substrates have risks in a Captive environment especially thd loose ones with digestion and impaction.

another option if you like simple and easy is non adhesive shelf liner. it comes in different colors and patterns, easy to clean, absorbs the heat, and there’s no risk of the geckos toes getting stuck in any carpet. plus it’s wayyy easier to clean

I'm preparing to get a leapord gecko soon. And I can't decide on a good substrate. I see lots of reviews and they all say different things abt the best one. So I'm genuinely so lost 😞

It can get so confusing. My personal experience is for younger leopard geckos paper towl is best cause of the risk of impaction at the size. But i have found that with the correct husbandry, you can keep full-size adults on a loose naturalistic substrate without a major impaction risk :)

@southcoastreptiles498 I am probably going to get a yearling leo and I saw "proRep leo life desert substrate" so I was thinking about getting that. But I'm conscious that the leo may digest it or something >•

yeah pro rep Leo life is practically the same as what we have for lizzie. As long as your husbandry is good a year old should be fine 😊

Leopard geckos don't live in sandy deserts

yes they do not live in sand dunes, so pure sand deserts but come from arid regions. which encompasses many different types of substrate all over their natural range .

Correct not sandy deserts but it's primarily Asian and Middle Eastern deserts where they prefer rocky outcrops and things however there is still sand there that is okay to be used as a base provided you have enough other enrichment and things for them to climb on such as slate tiles
