Today John, Sam, and Devin explore various dimensions of anger as it arises in the hearts, minds, and actions of men. Have you noticed that anger is everywhere today? We discuss why we experience anger, when it becomes a sin, or when it is just. Anger, rightly controlled, can be a positive force in our lives, but it can easily become a downward spiral that creates a toxic living situation for ourselves and those we love. Moreover, we equip you with strategies to control your own anger, use it rightly, and help you to maintain virtue throughout these frequent situations.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Each week we are going to answer one of your questions during the podcast. This week we have a question from a listener who wants to know how they can share their faith with their Protestant friends, including those that might not be disposed to talk about religion.
If you have any questions, please, record yourself on your phone and send us the audio clip to podcast@catholicgentleman.com. Or just send us your question and we will read it on air.

Excellent session. I find myself VERY angry at the secular, Godless world out there and how it is ruining the future for my children. Then I get consumed with guilt for "hating my neighbors". I've prayed over it A LOT and confessed it a few times. I've now reached the point where I don't "hate" my neighbors - but I'm not sure that I "love" them either. I absolutely believe my anger is justified. I am controlling my anger, and just like they discussed here, it became easier to control once I forgave myself first.

As a guy who often flies from the extreme of cowardice to that of anger too easily, this was a thought-provoking and amazing talk. A lot of good examples and amazing advice! Thank you for all you do with your channel!

For Sam: As a Catholic gentleman and psychotherapist in private practive, I found this discussion resonating with me quite a bit. In my own experience, I have found that many clients -- men especially -- have a struggle with anger. They erroneously confuse the EXPERIENCE of anger with the acting out of anger. I do psychoeducation with my clients around the validity of the impulse or emotion, i.e. "you may feel so angry that you could hit someone, and that anger is valid, but to act out that anger -- "to go postal" is wrong". I equate this with the impulse or urge to urinate. Your body is telling you that your bladder may be becoming full in my office as we talk, but to urinate in my office is wrong, as I will then now be sending you a bill to clean my carpet. So there is a time and place for everything. What often happens is clients will become angry or "pissed off" (forgive the pun) and their capacity to be able to restrain the urge to act out is reduced. Oftentimes, I will ask a client if they have a "short fuse" because they are quick to anger. Most of them will answer yes. I will then contradict them and respond with "no you don't have a short fuse, you have a long fuse, but you just ignore it until you can no more." Similarly, if, hypothetically, a client was kept in my office for a session for up to six hours and not permitted to leave the room, he would naturally within about three or four hours, either soil himself or have to piss in the corner of my room on my carpet.
