Agree. It's hard to talk about "the best camera", without mentioning the lens system it's going to be paired with. Of course they took it into account in the final moments, but they should have stated it more clearly early on.

As some one who's tossing up full frame or APS-C mirrorless (from an antique Canon 350D plus lenses) it'd be useful to know a little about the lenses. Perhaps a follow up to allow 1st and 2nd to duke it out with the lenses included?

@GhostShelter Canon, Sony, and Nikon all have full frame cameras that sit very close to their APSC. Fuji on the other hand only has APCS and medium format, which is sits far above apsc. The result is Canon, Sony, Nikon APSC cameras all got neutered in some way so that they don't eat into the FF market. Whereas Fuji can afford to give you the best of the best (of APSC) without eating their medium format line.
@krollpeter
@krollpeter 2 жыл бұрын
@@zzMigMitzz Full frame is still better. It has sharper fine detail and more definition in dark tones that overall gives images a depth and vivid appearance, that can't be reached by smaller formats. I watched probably all full frame to aps-c comparisons available. Sure, some aps-c cameras come pretty close. With some post-work they sure produce exquisite images, too. But for that wow-effect more sensor is what does it.
@Guizmopeg
@Guizmopeg 2 жыл бұрын
In a marketing sense that was a brilliant idea because beginner photographers have their mind all set up on buying APS-C, so that's how Fuji got at the top of the overall camera market shares. But on a rational level this decision makes no sense at all. You can get almost any entry to mid-level full frame camera for the same price as the X-T4. Just like Peter Kroll said before me, the FF will always have the upper hand in IQ, and most of the entry to mid-level FF cameras have (at least) an edge over any APS-C, even X series, in every category. Dropping that much money on a crop sensor makes no sense at all, no matter how good the brand APS-C lenses are.
@zigaauer3056
@zigaauer3056 2 жыл бұрын
@@Guizmopeg When did Fuji get to the top of the camera market share? The last marker share analysis has it at like 5% of the total market share, with even Nikon doing better in 2021. Overall Canon is still dominating even with it's completely anemic mirrorless ILC output with around 50% market share, Sony is second and probably the top selling mirrorless manufacturer, and Nikon is still at 15% market share even while plummeting catastrophically for a few years now.

I have an a7r IV. Just a hobbyist, so I decided to put it up for sale. Wanted to go back to APS-C. Wasn't sure if I wanted to go a6600, or Fuji X-T4. Found both for similar price right now. Heart told me to go with Fuji, but I went with the Sony. Wanted to go back to APS-C for the small, compact size and weight, and the a6600 does that for me. The Fuji, per specs on B&H, is the same size, even slightly larger in width, than the full frame a7r IV. Also weighs about the same, too. Wanted the Fuji, really did. Just wish the T4 was smaller (but still weatherproof, IBIS). Didn't care for the x-s10

Thanks for this very helpful review. As a Sony APSC person, first the A6000 and now owner of the A6600, this has been my go to camera for great shots when I travel internationally. I love the small lens sizes for travel, and how little I have to pay for lenses that are small and compact, since there are so many third-party options in the sony Emount system. I don't know if Fuji's XT4 allows for so many third party options. I cannot argue with the conclusion that the Fuji XT4 is the best camera. However, the feel of the Fuji is bulky in my hands and heavy. I love the slender, low profile of the Sony camera and find that it is incredibly light and comfortable to hold after hours of shooting and walking. The big downfall of the Sony camera is it's very poor ibis compared to other cameras. We are moving toward cameras becoming very steady, but Sony lags considerably behind others in this area. Ultimately, I may end up going with the fuji system, but not for the foreseeable future.

small note on the Nikon Z50 : you can generally find the Z50 in a package in where you get the FTZ adapter for basically nothing (like less than 100 USD instead of 300), opening the door for all the F mount glass, especially all the AF-S APSC lenses that are cheap and quite frankly very good, not mentionning all the film era stuff. Yeah, lenses > cameras and especially for size-doesn't-matter pro glass, adapting might be a good way to sweat the sunk cost. Combines great with smaller native glass, to pack two bags for light and portable vs. heavy but high quality. Hope they find a way (and the will) to make more compact APS-C lenses somehow with that ridiculously huge (for APS-C) mount, though Nikon has a terrible track record at producing native APS-C glass.

Great comparison review. I think Sony really need to update their line of APS-C cameras with a revised body design, faster readout sensor, and 10bit video capture capability. Then again is Sony trying to determine whether it is still worth investing in the APS-C format? I'm happy shooting with the format so I hope it stays around.

(And I don't count the ZV-E10 - it's for vloggers, which is great, but it's not an improvement to the a6600. A long time ago, i used a Canon EOS 7D. Back then, it was the best APS-C camera that money could buy. It had excellent AF, crazy fast 8fps (still today quite usable!), a large Buffer, wrote to a lightning fast CF-card, had rugged buildquality, weather sealing and great battery life - and even was a capable Full HD video camera, if manual focus was acceptable. I filmed our son with sigmas 18-35 F1.8, a great lens. But i especially liked the EF-S 15-85 3,5-5,6 IS USM. This lens was compact, had IS, fast AF and a zoom range i still miss today as a 5D4 shooter. Today i see the successor to this camera to be the Fuji X-T4: Best in it's class, with good glass options, rugged design and battery life, good video options etc. I use and really like my 5D4, but it does not always has to be fullframe. If i bought into a new system today, i would certainly choose Fuji's X-system.

I can't believe they gave the lowest ranking for image quality for the Z50, just because the sensor is 20MP? It has the best Dynamic range out of all of them, Has high ISO as well since it is a BSI CMOS sensor, and can take 11FPS, much better than the others. And of course the most pleasing RAW files are from Nikon because they have great colors. Just for lack of IBIS, that does not justify a 4th place. I dumped my FUJI X-T20 for the Z50 even though the sensor gave 24MP because I didn't find a huge difference between 20 and 24MP.

The Fujifilms XT-4 and Nikons Z50 are just, simply, 'no brainer' choices. I have a quick, little story to tell about the Z50 specifically; I was shooting WRC with a friend who got us the pass to go with a group of FIA photographers couple months ago in Croatia. My friend and I went with one of them through the forest, to the highest point, sharp corner spot and the guy dropped his D6 2 hours in and couldn't walk back to the car because the stage/race was starting in less than 1 hour, so he borrowed my friends brand new Z50, that he just bought two days earlier... And man... Let me tell you... The pictures he took with that $800 camera almost made me want to sell my XT-4 and all my camera gear, quit photography for good and then question all my life choices. That guy made us realize how good the Z50 is, because an $800 camera isn't supposed to produce better images than my XT-4 that is a pro camera at double the price...

The fuji and Nikon APSC cameras are "Sonys in Disguise" in the sense that they use Sony sensors. The most significant differentiators are price - and more importantly - lens selection as otherwise you are gonna get pretty much the exact same picture quality. The Sony and the Fuji have a much better selection of 1st and 3rd party lens options for their mount systems. The Nikon is pretty terrible by comparison - virtually none of the big lens manufacturers have bothered to support the Z mount, with barely a handful manual lenses from "low end" Chinese brands being available. This is a major dealbreaker. For the APSC format, across all manufacturers, there are major gaps in all 1st party lens options that are filled by 3rd party lens - Sigma in particular does a great job for completing the prime lens lineup.
@nogerboher5266
@nogerboher5266 2 жыл бұрын
@@JimIBobIJones Your first paragraph is false - it’s a common misconception, it’s actually not a Sony sensor - it’s only manufactured by Sony, the design and engineering of the sensor is done by the companies who have production(manufacturing) contracts with Sony, aka. Nikon, Panasonic, Fuji, DJI and others… Sony only gets the patented blueprints under a strict contract and manufactures their sensors for them at a cheaper cost. Most camera manufacturers have a contract with Sony because Sony has the biggest factory (production) chains out of any other manufacturer in the business, as well as the largest amount of CNC machines for the job - all meaning faster and larger production at a lower cost. And it’s not just camera manufacturers who do this, everyone does this - for example, one of the newer diesel engines in the newer Mercedes A and E class, was manufactured by Renault and VW. Same with BMW, Peugeot, entire VW group and others. Another example; Apples “Made in California” products actually manufacture over 60% of their parts and hardware in Taiwans, Chinas and Thailands factories. Then, another example, Nvidia and AMD both use the exact same factory in China for production of some of their GPU parts. So on and so forth… You can do the same. You can engineer and design an entire house and then have someone else build it for you - and you can do that with anything, the house was just an example. Outsourcing is way more common than you think and allows businesses/manufacturers to drastically lower their production costs.

As this type of camera, for newbee like me, no EVF it acceptable(plus function--can keep eye health-_-), but no flash means unacceptable. Many newbee don't have extra flash. Plus, today I order a lot of subs. list: 1. Screen Cover-- JJC, for protecting. 28 RMB 2. Tripod 1--Ulanzi twitchable tripod(function like JOBY, but use rubber, and much cheaper). 50 RMB 3. Tripod 2--Ulanzi metal tripod with Arca pan, and a RGB light set, 250 RMB 4. Camera bag--National Geographic NG W2250, 447RMB a kind of expensive, but Manfrotto's SD-10 bag size too big(for ipad support), and Lowepro's NOVA serise too fat and can't fill an Ipad. A small bag+iPad in is my requirement, so, finally I choosed NG W2250. Although Manfrotto and Lowepro has Rain Cover and use more textile material. lol All expense(with camera set) around 7500 RMB, about 1172 USD. About future plan, I am not planing to buy Canon EF-M 11-22, cause it too expensive. around 3000 RMB. twice of it, I can nearly buy a New model which is going to replace Sony A6400.

Yes, I could find something better, but more expensive. I didn't want to pay extra for few better things, for now it satisfies my needs. Very light camera, event with the Nikkor 50-250 lens, perfect for traveling. Yes, it has no IBIS, but if you concentrate a little, you can get great shot in low light. I mean I have shots of waterfalls with the shutter speed at 1/5s handheld and it is perfect, it is a quite long exposure shot. The stabilization of the 16-50 lens is very good. In the end everybody has to chose what needs and I'm happy with my Z50.
