Pythons have long been the aquarium vacuum to make water changes easier for us hobbyists, but there's a lot of options out there now and Hygger might just have what it takes to be the new king of water changing.

Thanks for the review. I have two Pythons, a big one and a really small one for hard to reach areas. Love the quality of the components. Always thought an attachment like the one Hygger has would be helpful, but a curved one that could allow quick cleaning of intake sponges and sponge filters. I did have an issue with my modern faucet though and had to rig something to make it fit which took a few weeks to find. The Hygger seems too bulky. Someone should make an extendable vacuum with sections you can add or subtract, that would be nice.

currently using a DIY 100" version of the "Aqueon" brand. To drain the tanks I hook a power head up with a screen and attach the out flow pipe to the hose and flush to the sink. The ball valve can and does fail if you're not careful. You can break or weaken the clips that hold the lever in place. I've never owned a Python, always thought the quality was better, although I never liked the slip valve on pythons.

I have a Python and love it, but it is getting fair use. I bought all brass quick connects for the attachments for quick changes so the heaters and filters don't have to be off as long. I do each tank individually because they are spread throughout the house. I have two bathrooms so I just switch sinks when I have to clean the tank in my bedroom. I may invest in the Hygger just for that added attachment for cleaning the gravel below the surface next to the glass. Thanks for the review.

I’ve been using the Python for many years. It does what it’s supposed to do really well, move water. Recently had to replace the shutoff valve but since it uses standard garden hose fittings I was able to use one from an old water nozzle.

This is pretty helpful, I wasn't sure if I could use one of those as a replacement. Mine sucked up a rock and it got stuck in the valve. I didnt know and when I went to shut it off it broke instead lol. You will learn how fast you can really move when you are at the business end of a 100ft python and the shut off breaks and you gotta run to the faucet.

I only began following your channel a month ago or so, but boy!! Am I glad I did! I’m about get back into the hobby after a 20 year hiatus. I had a Python in back in 1998. It broke once in about 2001 and had to replace. Now I have a fancy kitchen faucet so not sure it’ll work for me again 😪😩. I’m thinking about getting a 55 gallon plastic barrel and keeping dechlorinated (and Clorimined) water at room temperature (which is what I’m thinking keeping). I’m thinking a sump pump from the barrel to my 78 gallon. I’m starting with shrimp and hear the big threat to them is pH and temperature shock. Later, after the plants grow in and the shrimp have colonized, I’m adding small schooling fish. Thank you!!!!!Your reviews are THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE on KZfaq!

@@BentleyPascoe Yes! Already on it, thanks! In college I took care of salt water reef tanks and the lab had several that made water changing so easy. I had to use an old giant glass RO filter (took hours to fill a 55 gallon) and then roll it to the elevator to transport to a different floor. My current place has cement floors so I’m hoping for seamless water changes. Thank you very much for providing such consistent information and tips. You’ve helped more than you know.

This made a grand total of £102.23 three years down the line, I would hate to think what it costs now. These was Amazon prices...🤔

Bentley there was a young lady who was marketing a screen for the suction end of the Python. The one thing I can think of that would be great on either one is a Bayonett attachment that replaces the quick couplers on the combination spray and standard flow combination taps. My fish room is my entire finished basement and thankfully I am hooked into the piping from the hot and cold tap, through my R/O filters to the reservoir. My threaded ends are good. Thanks as always Bentley!
@nabokovfan87

Yes! It was an endcap for the tube. Aqueon versions also come with a stopper of sorts. They get removed because they clogged way too quickly. I see the little vacuum attachment being extremely useful for sand based aquariums. I would love to see some more innovation when it comes to protecting house plumbing and fish (especially Fry and plants) for using these cleaning devices. Fluval used sponges and has a vacuum system, you could easily use some sponge in there to act as a stopper. Moss loves to clog pythons but it might be a way to keep the sand or fines from getting deep into the plumbing. (Or a toddy style filter in the sink drain, who knows)

@BentleyPascoe
@BentleyPascoe 2 жыл бұрын
Technically it is possible to get that super red color out of rotalas using something like a floodlight; however, usually in order to get that super intense red coloration you need a combination of high levels of CO2, very strong light, and some level of nitrogen starvation in order to achieve it

I'm sorry for the late response here. I got a little buried. I tried to point out in the video that there is a definite difference in the quality of materials. I think the only thing I kind of want to suggest here is that for the price you would hope that Python would include a few extra adapters given how sinks are nowadays. In general, I would say that I do prefer the quality of the parts with the Python over the Hygger.
