Goodbye Mr. Chips is one of my favorite books ever! I am so glad you included it in your listing. Also, I must say, one can never go wrong reading Agatha Christie and her Miss Marple series! Of course, Sherlock Holmes is just the perfect way to spend a lazy autumn afternoon. Persausian and the Bronte sisters are the perfect way to enjoy an autumn read. Thank you so much for this listing.

If there is a heaven on earth, surely it is autumn. I will be thrilled when we move beyond the stubborn humidity that has settled here in New England and into the season of colored leaves, crisp air, and cosy evenings by the fire. A Wrinkle in Time was such a childhood favorite. The children have that appealing combination of pluck, independence and curiosity that I think resonates so much with young readers, much like the characters in Alan Garner's The Owl Service and John Verney's Friday's Tunnel. You capture the essence of a book so eloquently that I think you could convince me to brew a cup of tea and curl up with a car repair or tractor supply manual! I hope you and Donna have a wonderful week head. 📚 🍁

Dear Miranda! This is just incredible!!! Thank you so so much!!! I wasn't expecting a video since you announced last week that there maybe couldn't be one because of your workload, and now there is a new BEAUTIFUL commonplace book AND a video! How delightful. These kind of videos are my very favourite of yours and I always add a lot to my reading (and book buying😀) list! It is so enjoyable how you enrich people's lives! I hope you will have a calmer upcoming week though! Take good care of yourself. Our schoolyear is starting tomorrow here in southern Germany and it will get busy. I love 84 Charing Cross Road and have read it many times. I love the sequels: The Duchess of Bloomsbury and Q’s Legacy. I once wrote to Helene Hanff and she kindly wrote back. There’s a blue plaque at 84 Charing Cross Road memorializing the shop and book. The movie with Ann Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins is wonderful.

Hi Miranda! I've just come across your channel and I can honestly say what a delight it is! I live in Brazil and unfortunately, we don't have the season changes as in the northern hemisphere. I felt transported to England (my favorite country in the world) by watching your videos. I want to buy all the books you recommend and I wish I could live the ambiance and coziness of fall. Thank you for producing an Autumn edition of your Commonplace Book series. I am looking forward to spending time with it. I had to laugh at “The Squirrel and the Lost Treasure” and your observations of them burying nuts at the moment. We were eating dinner this week and noticed a squirrel outside carrying something bigger than itself. It then began to bury it in our flowerbed. At the same moment my husband and I both said “That’s a potato! Our potatoes!!!” The squirrel had dug them out of our potato pots so he could plant them in the flowers!

I love these recommendations!! I love that you choose real "autumnal" books instead of of Halloween feel books(which I also do love but still! I want more than just Halloween books). Confessing that I hit the like button before the video even started - but I stand by that decision! Heading to the library today to pick up The Fortnight in September. I am house/dog sitting this week for my parents and need something to curl up with while the pups are napping. Ishiguro is one of my favorite authors so the comment about its influence on him has me extra interested to dip into this one! Yay! I love books and I love fall (I put my fall wreath on my front door on September 1st), and this was a lovely video to watch. So many books are either already favorites of mine or got instantly added to my TBR. Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen novel too, and I LOVE Bleak House. Miranda, I just had to write you and tell you how much I LOVED The Fortnight in September by R C Sherriff. What a WONDERFUL, sweet, heartwarming story. I drank in every moment of it. Thank you so much for recommending it. I have it on my autumn reading list for every year. I love how you introduce me to books I have never heard of that are amazing. Keep up the great content. Hello from Northern California. Fall is my favorite time of year and I am currently looking for books, that are warm and cozy...even if it is still too warm in my personal opinion. I'm really tempted to read Bleak House again; it's many years since I read it, and I just read a passage in a different book, where it's described as a novel of the 'Victorian twilight' - with its fogbound opening and short days 'shadowed by darkness and polluted air.' Perfect late autumn / winter read, indeed! xxx

Among your recommendations there is The Fortnight in September, which is one of my favorite books and also a few books that I love. I agree. I just loved A Fortnight in September. Though it is one that is hard for me to recommend to a lot of people, as I don’t think everyone would “get it”. People are so different. But it’s one that I feel really stays with you. I find myself thinking of it every now and then. It was a lovely read.

First, I just have to say that I love the design on the mug you're holding. Second, thank you so much for the lovely Autumn Commonplace Book with its beautiful artwork and perfect quotes. I really look forward to your Commonplace Books and I return to them again and again. Autumn is my favorite season also and I've read Persuasion and Jane Eyre so many times. Your book suggestions always all sound so good to me though.

Hi Miranda, Thank you for the many recommendations for our Fall reading. I'm very interested in "The Yellow Wallpaper". "Goodbye Mr.Chips" was a wonderful movie (the 1939 version with Robert Donat, and Greer Garson), I think we can all relate to a teacher who had an impact on our education as well as our outlook on life. I also love "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" another wonderful movie with the great Maggie Smith. Have you read the Donna Tartt novel "The Secret History" ? I enjoyed that one too. Hope you and your Mom are enjoying the approaching "Cozy" season. It's rainy, humid, and in the 80's here in the U.S. I'm looking forward to the cooler weather ! Love the little bird on your jumper ! Have already downloaded the Autumn Commonplace book and thank you for the work you put into producing it. I am going to print off two copies, one for me and then one for my granddaughter, and I plan on going through the book and doing some journaling, reading, and other activities with her this fall....
