If you are in the US, ask your son to apply for the SANS diversity program. If verified, he will get access to the 3 base level certification for free! One of the courses cost more than $7000 lol. Tell him

Am stuck on specialisation, I feel am good with analysing and documentation, and again feel Am capable of diving deeper into hands on programming languages and other stuffs. Project docs, pentest reports, and technical documentation should be referenced on your resume as one of the impact bullets under each project, then during the interview stage is when you can refer to the projects you've done and the final products from each. You can also create a project portfolio online and add your website link to your resume, this would be a great option to share more in-depth the types of projects you've done. Best of luck!

I was unable to installed pfSense. It is needed for the LetsDefend course on building a SOC Lab. Looks like I'll have to try the other projects. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Do either of you have an appliance to install PFSense on? It’s a firewall/router, so it would be Layer 3/4/7 (depending on what you were using it for) of your home network. Most appliances with at least two ports on it will work.
