I recently quit my job as a corporate lawyer to be a writer, content creator and coach. I live in Fukuoka, Japan, with my husband nicknamed 'Tanuki' and we love spending chill days between our home and exploring the country :)

Hi Ally, I’ve been watching your videos for a while but really enjoying your recent ones. You seem so much happier since you quit your job😊 Loved this! I am also an advanced Japanese learner, but unlike you I hate reading books (in any language😂) But quite a few of the ones you introduced sparked my interest so I plan to check them out! Have you read 変な家? (Also 変な絵 by the same author) I would really recommend them, def my favourite reads of 2023 from my side❤

@@arinoyume It’s awesome you were able to do that, must have been long time in planning👏 I’m not currently in a position to quit my job but I’m longing to do so at some point when I get a chance! I’ve downloaded 消えたママ友 which I’ll get started on once I’ve finished what I’m currently reading📚 Yeah I can imagine it’s everywhere right now, there’s a movie coming out soon I believe. But anyway you mentioned you are into darker themes and personally I was hooked on it❤️

I reccomend others non-fiction books by Murakami: What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, Underground: The Tokyo Gas Attack and the Japanese Psyche and Novelist as a Vocation.

Thanks for all your recommendations. I hope to improve my Japanese that far to be able to read those books as well one day, especially those by Murakami. You said, you love history as well. Me too. So I was wondering if you could recommend a non-fiction history book about Japanese history probably aiming at children, since such a book would be better for my current level 😅? I would like to learn more about Japanese history and improve my reading skills. I’m up for the challenge 😊 but I couldn’t find something suitable so far. So maybe you have an idea where to look 👀

I do have an idea for you! When I was in my first reading year I read two particular history books / book series aimed for children: one about the famous people in history around the world (世界の歴史　人物事典) and very colourful and fast paced read with 100% of furigana on the kanji, and then the manga series 日本の歴史 - let me send you the links in a separate comment!
