In this video, I show you how I tie what I consider the best fishing knot for connecting braided line to leader material, I explain why it’s the best knot for the job and I explain why I think having a leader on your braided line is an advantage.

@@ChadHooverFishing like you said, its not just the strength of the knot when tied, its the strength through the "lifecycle" of a knot and once I get the half hitch finishes right, it performed GREAT all day through at least 12 fish catches today. And it is easy to tie. I am retying all my braid to floro set ups with this knot tomorrow. Now if I could just figure out why on some hard casts, my braid gets shredded four to six inches above my knot (frayed lined). I run predominantly Daiwa Steez with AGS guides and I am wondering if the rigidity of the AGS guides is shredding the line on hard casts???

Great video Chad- Using the thick paracord was a great way to demonstrate the technique. You've shown this knot before in the past & I've been using it as a connection knot most of the time. I have a couple of rods with micro-guides and the FG knot goes through better. But- this one is easier to tie, it's quicker, and I've not had a bass break off at the knot. I have tied this knot several times sitting in my kayak in low light conditions (I can't do that with an FG.)

I've used this knot before as well as the uni knot. The FG knot is still king because the line never doubles itself. It doesn't matter if you're using a light line but when you use heavier mono or flouro, that double mono makes a huge difference.

I’m not the greatest at tying an FG knot. But when I tried it . I didn’t find it to be any more durable than the Alberto knot . Plus it’s a long knot and at times I found it didn’t go through the guides very well. So I decided it wasn’t worth the effort.
@olliehughes6774

This^. Any knot that doubles the leader over is an instant no for me. I did honestly give the albright a crack, but after two casts and retrieves, I couldn't handle all the tinks. Immediately clipped it and put my usual FG on. I have no problems tying an FG on the water. Once you learn it, you know it.

Appreciate the instructions. Made it very easy to follow I've been using kind of a hybrid of this for awhile and it seems to work pretty well this looks a lot easier to tie. I do have one question though did you forget the III overhand knots at the end of the video when you were using the actual braid and leader material? I backed it up a little bit and watched again and I didn't see that part when you use the actual materials rather than the demo line you were using in the beginning. Thanks again for the videos

You ever try the risotto finish on your knots after the first half hitch? I always like that as it is smoother and covers everything cleaner.
@ChadHooverFishing
@ChadHooverFishing 9 ай бұрын
I don’t, because I want the leading edge protecting by the tag in and the little tuft. On the Rizzuto finish, you end up with the leading edge wrap being the first thing to contact something and it can cause premature failure if the knot. If I use an FG knot then I will use the Rizzuto finish and clip it clean without leaving the little tag.

The FG is still the stronger knot, the thinner knot, you don’t compromise your leader by bending it in half. Adding the risotto finish resolves all your complaints about it coming through the guides. I’ve had issues with the Albright knot clipping through the guides as you cast.
@ChadHooverFishing
@ChadHooverFishing 9 ай бұрын
It’s actually not, stronger and doubling it doesn’t compromise the leader the way that i tie it and I explained that in the video, it’s actually more durable and it goes through the guides as easy or easier. I also addressed how to get rid of the Albright clipping through the guides, you just have to clip it flush.
@ChadHooverFishing
@ChadHooverFishing 9 ай бұрын
If the FG works for you, you find it easy to tie and you have no issues then by all means if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I just see the FG knot failing all the time and it’s from being tied improperly so one of the strongest benefits of this knot is it’s simple to tie and almost impossible to tie wrong.

Will it go through your guides? Also, I tried that and the tag ends tend to pick up a lot of debris, have you had that?
@jboulderct
@jboulderct 9 ай бұрын
@@ChadHooverFishing Goes through guides almost as well as the FG, well enough for my purposes. The leader tag can pick up debris if it's not trimmed tight, but that's not hard with good snips. The braid tag doesn't really attract as much.

Only time I switch from FG to Albright is when the leader is thinner diameter than main. FG wasn't meant for that use case. That said, that situation happens so rarely, I use FG ~98% of the time with leaders 8-16' long because I run them down to 12-16" switching lures before I put new leader on, so durability has not been an issue at all.
@ChadHooverFishing
@ChadHooverFishing 9 ай бұрын
Yeap, and that’s why I use this knot instead. It will work in any situation where the FG will, but it will work when the FG won’t and it’s easier to tie and more durable

If I ever decide to use leaders I would use this version for sure . Most leader to braid slips because braid is so slick . But I have been a straight braid to bait/lure for over 30yrs . I just don't believe the fish care much about seeing the line. A bass is gonna hit it or not .
