Christmas time comes with so many traditional dishes, and Buńuelos are on the top of the list for me, it’s the perfect ending to any meal. Buñuelos are a quickly fried tortilla disk then sprinkled with a combination of cinnamon and sugar. Syrup is the perfect addition to the buñuelos, you can drizzle it or you can break your buñuelo apart then dunked in the delicious syrup made out of piloncillo (compressed brown cane sugar) and cloves, cinnamon, star anise, orange and lemon rind and water. I hope you give this delicious recipe a try. ❤️
As an AMAZON associate I profit from qualified purchases (affiliate)

You are right Mrs Rachel every store in Arizona has them the best are from Food City it's a Mexican Grocery Store but any store that sells Goya foods will have the cone sugar. But I think home made are the best no matter what because you will need to get the ingredients for the syrup . You are probably the best Mexican Cook that I have found on line ❤️

Dearest Rachel…… I love your channel. You remind me so much of my long passed Mama…..y’all don’t look anything alike….. she was as Anglo you can get and couldn’t pronounce a Spanish word correctly if her life depended on it! But like you, she loved her husband, cooking good food, sewing, having guests, having a garden and a warm, comfortable home…..nothing pleased her more than pleasing her family and others. The way she would beam with love and pride when presenting a delicious dish to others is exactly the same. God bless you and Your Ron. ❤️ The younger generation of women could learn a lot from you. I wish we lived next door to each other.

Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes and cooking advice. I've never had bunuelos as light and flaky as the ones my Mom used to make, but yours look amazing. I remember Mom used to make a "tea" with the star anise and added that to the dough instead of plain water. She would also roll and stretch out the round discs until they were tissue paper thin then laid them out on kitchen towels to let them air out overnight. The next day she would fry them up and we'd eat them with the cinnamon sugar or sometimes just powdered sugar. You explain things so well it gives me the courage to try and make these on my own. God bless you and your Ron. ❤

My mother made buñuelos every holiday season for us...and to sell. She would start taking orders in October and November; early December she would make about FIFTY dozen buñuelos! My grandmother and I were her assistants. I would help by taking the already rolled out buñuelo and stretching on my kitchen towel draped knee. One ingredient she used was tequesquite-it's a rock-like substance that is similar to baking soda. They were the VERY best! She didn't add syrup.

I have decided hands down that your cooking show is my absolute favorite! You are a great presenter, with a nice cheerful and calm voice, you explain things very well, and I like that you always say, you can put this, or that, or not depending on your tastes. You often suggest easier to find ingredients or next best ingredients to use. Whether it baked goods, casseroles, soups, or meat and seafood dishes, you have it covered. I am now retired and single and I am a live in caregiver to my brother and his disabled son. My brother went through cancer treatment for a tumor in his throat that thank the Lord we discovered in the earliest stages. I used to take great delight in cooking the way our Mom used to cook and my brother loved that. But aftereffects of radiation to his neck have left him with very little taste and near zero saliva which doesn't exactly make one want to eat and eating becomes difficult and with so very little taste, it is not enjoyable anymore. I found you Rachael and many of your recipes have that "little kick" of various seasonings and your Mexican dishes are wonderful and you make it so easy to learn to cook even the more complicated things like Tamales and others. I could never get my brother to taste any Mexican style foods in the past, but now I find that I HAVE to find ways to give him some kind of taste awareness or else he hardly eats. I thank you so much for the knowledge I have gleaned from your videos. Your use of seasonings is helping me to get my brother to eat. I wish you were my neighbor; I would love to belong to a club with you where several families host lunch and or dinners at their homes and take turns cooking all kinds of foods from all ethnic styles. I also love the pots and other kitchen tools you use. I just had to go buy a big cast iron ceramic coated dutch oven with lid after watching you cook with them. Luckily just before Christmas an overstock store nearby put them on sale for HALF the PRICE of any I looked at anywhere. I made sure to be there the next day after the ad so as not to miss out! Loving it, and Albondigas soup was its' first project. DELICIOUS. I will be buying more pots as I see you have sauce pans etc also cast iron ceramic coated. Have a wonderful new year and God Bless.

These sort of remind me of the crispy shell of cannoli. They look wonderful, especially with that syrup.

Yum. My sister in law makes her syrup more like a tea. She breaks apart the bunuelos in a bowl and pours the syrup over it. 😋
