Thanks Jeffrey. A few years ago I purchased the Artcise LB44 ball head. It seems to be identical to the Innorel N44 , so I suspect both are made by the same manufacturer. I find that often, a Chinese company makes an item that is sold and rebadged to more than one company. The ball head has proven excellent in every scenario, even when I put my 400mm lens on my Sony A7 IV.

Probably the same one! There can definitely be a lot of rebranding in those situations. Glad yours is working out well! Hoping mine holds up in the longer term!

Very good review. Have you noticed any creep since you’ve been using the N44? I have some hefty Canon L series RF lenses, including the RF 100-500mm. I’m wondering how well the N44 would hold up. Thanks!

I've still been pleasantly surprised by this ball head. I have not noticed any creep and it is still my go-to ball head today. The heaviest combo I have used on it is a Nikon Z7 II with Nikon 100-400mm lens. I do use the tripod foot, so that helps keep it balanced a little better up there, but it has seemed to be a really solid setup. Initially I thought I'd just use this N44 on my taller tripod and keep using my Sirui K30x on my "travel" tripod, but I keep moving the ball head to whichever tripod I am going to be using most. Hope that helps!

I have never own a ball head so it would have been very helpful to tell photographers like myself how I change the platform that came with my tripod, to remove and how to attach the ball head. Why does no one cover this?

The video was definitely focused more on the ball head than an installation! Changing ball heads can vary depending on the tripod. For the brand I use you just unscrew the head from the tripod by turning it to the left, it screws off and you can put a new or different ball head on (I actually remove mine when flying). But I've seen tripods where there are set screws that need loosened before unscrewing the ball head. And I've seen some tripods where you can't replace the ball head. My recommendation is to see if the maker of your tripod has a website with some information on care an maintenance which will often include info on how to remove the head. Since it varies between tripods, it can be hard to make a comprehensive video on the installation or removal aspect of the replacing the head. Hope that helps!

Thank you. I have a simple basic Manfrotto and it has a black ring at the base that just spins. I am guessing it just needs to unscrew from the top of the shaft and screw on the ball head I get. Unless it has a set screw set up. Then I see I need a special L bracket because some dont work on new Canon mirrorless with flip screens. There is a lot more involved than you think and just to shoot the stars lol Thx@@JeffreyTadlockPhotography

Did you have a chance to use it in conditions close to 0deg C by chance, and/or with gloves? My only fear of using metal knobs is the coldness of the metal and how well they work with gloves.
@JeffreyTadlockPhotography
@JeffreyTadlockPhotography 9 ай бұрын
When I was in West Virginia with it a couple of the mornings were were low single digit C, just dancing around 0 degrees. I did wear fingerless gloves for at least one of the mornings and didn't have any issues with it. (My tripod, the FLM has aluminum twist locks, no rubber - so I'm semi-used to having metal twist locks and knobs in the cold). The knurls on the knobs are pretty deep - I''m not expecting much trouble with it. But to be 100% sure I probably need a few more cold weather shooting days to be completely confident in that answer. Hope that helps!

Jeffrey !!!!! Gotcha a new FLM tripod eh? Wow. Sorry about that FLM ( Forever Loose Mounts). 😆 Coulda hada Leofoto !!!!!! 🤔👍😊 J/K J/K. Congrats on the FLM (Sue-Ray). I had that Sirui K-30, and it was a like/ dislike affair. It was too fiddly, and not the smoothest. I’ve found both the legs and heads from Leofoto outclass Sirui. 👏👍🤔😀🤣 Good video

Ha! Yep - picked up the CP30-L4 tripod. I was very happy with my S4! With that said, while I haven’t used a Leofoto tripod, I’ve had multiple friends with them and see them recommended frequently. I think it is the brand I’d look at if I was looking for an FLM alternative. I like my Sirui, but I hear you on the like/dislike part. 90% of the time I like it, the most fiddly part is portrait orientation with my L-bracket I have to be super careful to be sure it clamps down right. If I’m careful it is good. If I am in a hurry it doesn’t clamp quite right on the front of the L-bracket. After using this N44 I’ve come to realize just how fiddly that portrait orientation with the K30 really is (as the N44 clamps right on). Appreciate the comments!

What’s the issue with the FLM tripods and which mount are you referring to? The top plate of the apex having cork on it? I’m interested in possibly getting one. Thank you

@@firstclassfish01 Hello fish! Cant believe how long ago I posted this, and so I am not sure myself what I was referring to, other than giving Jeffrey a hard time, with my poor humor? No issues with the cork and I think it is a novel idea. But I never had a tripod long enough to know? There is nothing wrong with FLM tripods per se; I had an issue with the Vendor sending me out ones that appeared used? One of them had a bad leg that would not release easily with the twist locks. I feel like the packaging/ presentation leaves a little to be desired, but it seems to be in keeping with their Teutonic heritage. ‘Ari’ assured me that what I received was not the norm, so I don't know? I like the metal twist locks, and the strength to weight ratio is really good. ‘Ari’ is with FLM/ Canada and is an outstanding Customer Service Rep and would no doubt take care of You should You happen to have any issues. I would encourage You to check one out. Take care stay safe!

@@firstclassfish01 You're Welcome! This is what makes KZfaq Community great , when it works! 😃 I’ve personally corresponded with Ari, and he is superb. You wouldn’t go wrong either way. FLM is a German brand in it’s origins, although the tripods are mainly made in China now, as are Leofoto. Soz takes yer pick; FLM will cost more for comparable tripods, but I think the quality justifies the price. Nothing wrong with Leofoto. Leofoto offers a better feature set, which includes a very nice padded bag, and accessories. I’m not sure what the warranty is with FLM, but Leofoto offers 10 years. I have dealt with Leofoto USA based out of Louisiana, and they are superb! Leofoto caters more to Ranger shooting with rifle supports, but they also offer Photography based tripods and heads and all kinds of neat little accessories. I dont know what style of Photography You do, but they have something that fits. I see that Jeffrey Tadlock just put out a video on ‘The Best Landscape Photography Tripod?’ Might want to check it out? Peace!

Hi, 1st time hearing this product..and I'm seeing a N36 and M36..are there any differences? Is it a sturdy ball head? Thanks
@JeffreyTadlockPhotography
@JeffreyTadlockPhotography 7 ай бұрын
The N36 (or M36) version of the ball head has lower load capacity than the N44 I talked about in the video. Other than that, the N36 is the same as the N44. The M-series (i.e. M36) has an additional panoramic rotation just under the clamp at the top of the head, in addition to the one at the base. I haven’t used an M-series one, but from the pictures I’ve seen, it looks like that is the difference (and there is an extra knob for that rotation up by the clamp). As for sturdiness, mine has been doing fine. I’ve had it out to Arizona a couple of times, West Virginia, and down in my local area and it has performed well, including when I have a Nikon z7ii and 100-400 lens attached. Hope that helps!
