I've met this guy and his bike at Alice's, and we chatted it up a bit since I was also riding my 99 VFR that day.

What a top bloke. I completely agree with his assessment of the RC46. I worked at a dealer and was able to ride the latest and greatest supersports, sports tourers... everything from the Tuono 1100 to the new R1. The RC46 VFR800 still shines as a brilliant motorcycle. The sound of the gear driven cams and the V4 with a good exhaust is up there with the best engine sounds in the world. As he says it is “fast enough”. This is absolutely correct.

I recently bought a 2001 model with 40k on the clocks,this video gives me a lot of confidence.As does the bike.From 15hp to over 100 could be a recipe for disaster but for this newly qualified uk rider it gets more attention than my wife,and it responds much less snappily than she does when i get things a bit wrong!

Great review, was thinking about buying one and after watching this I went and got it. Couldn't be happier. Tank range is amazing!

88+K ~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -As with the 3rd gen, -saw one with 98K and it ran like a top! -I've had both 3rd and 5th gen VFR's. Currently have a 91 (And will again one day pick up the super fast '00 Canary') -Oh and Kudos for going with the Milestone 90' White-rim color scheme. haha.So rad! :) I'd Love to find a set of White rims for my 91. -Just something about that color scheme that just works for this bike. It has 54K and runs like it just came off the assembly line. Just picked it up. Having the suspension gone over to have it back to an 11K feel :) -Which, aside from just keeping a reasonable maintenance schedule, is really all you have to do to have a smile on your face as you remember "OH YEAH! -I HAVE A VFR! I can just go R I D E today! :) -High miles on these just means they are That reliable. Props to John. -Such a civilized man on the best bike ever. Great vid! Thanks for the smiles. Cheers! :)

I'm 25 and I bought my '01 VFR when I was 21. I LOVE this bike. I also have a Sargent seat and can say it's a great butt cushion. Maybe someday when I have the time I'll do an R1 front end swap and add a Torocharger to it. I don't ever plan on selling her. Hopefully she'll live for a very long time.

I saw one of these on eBay, so I'm glad I found this. I've had two VFRs, a Gen 2 (?) 1986 750, with those beautiful sand-cast engine cases, and a 2009, all-white VTEC. The 1986 series seems primitive by today's standards, and I thought the VTEC heavy and hot-running, but otherwise pleasant. You and John have answered some of my questions about this model. Thanks!

Fantastic bike and a great owner. I'm considering one for my next bike (rode an 04 VFR for about a year) because they are such a great value. 3-4KUSD for one of the best bikes ever built is money very well spent.

The weight plays to your advantage at top speeds. It's so smooth and relaxed at 140 meanwhile the other 600s feel like they're gonna be taken up and thrown away by the wind at 120

007 IS ABSOLUTELY 100% correct.. for ALL AROUND best motorcycle ever made- the entire VFR Line up through Gen 5 takes the title.. although I have no issues with Gen 6 V-Tec like some people do.. it did change the bike in a dramatic way.. in MY Opinion but a little riding on V-Tec and you find it a different kind of enjoyable.. , ( I Own a 2000 and have owned a 95, and 2008 VFR) and I have yet to meet a current VFR owner who doesn't love his bike, say its the best bike he's ever had AND/ OR a previous VFR Owner who wishes like hell he'd never sold it- That's all you need to know about this bike- PERIOD- If you ever come across one that you can grab for $2500 and 50K or less- its the best decision you'll ever make. My 95 had 117K on the clock when I sold it for the 08 VFR

Fantastic bike, I have a 2001, but with a few problems, the front sprocket is not completely fixed, it has a slight wobble but Honda never solved this problem, other than that, it has been a great bike.

Gabriel, would you consider using something to minimize the camera shake? They make very inexpensive things that hold the camera on a gimbal, with a weight hanging below that would do the trick for you... and for us! I do enjoy your videos otherwise.
@GabrielEtsHokin10 жыл бұрын
That was an iPhone 4, the iPhone 5 seems to be better. I post these videos for my readers and frankly, even though I've racked up over 500,000 views of all my videos, why should I spend any time,, money or effort on them at all? I don't make any money (ok, about $50 a year) and you don't pay to watch them. So you can put up with some shaking and I can put up with complaining and we'll all be happy, ok? I'm very happy and grateful you enjoy my work!
@KutWrite10 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Ets-Hokin It was just a suggestion. I've since seen your "suck it" answer to someone else's similar suggestion. That video wasn't as shaky, so... maybe this, my first view of your vids, wasn't representative of your skills. I guess I'm projecting from my own values. I don't make money off my videos either, but try to make 'em the best I can within reason. I do enjoy your attitude on the vids and your content. So, please take this constructively, as you seem to (sort of). All the best!

That whine noise isn't normal for a VFR. Did he have a SC?
@50gary10 жыл бұрын
On the 1998/99 the gear drive for the cams is on the outside (rt) and you can hear the gears much more than the center mounted drive. To me it's like a Ducati dry clutch, a bonus in exotic sound. In this case a way of boasting "I've got gear driven cams."
@Pyroguy9210 жыл бұрын
VFR's are famous because of their gear driven cams. lol that whine is more than just normal, its the signature of the VFR...this was the last generation of gear driven cams though :(

I see. Is there an advantage over chain driven? Longevity perhaps?
