There are a lot of hybrid #camerabag that you can transform or use as everydaycarry #backpack. The #Wandrd PRVKE is one of them. Is this one better than Peak Design or the new Peter Mckinnon Bag for instance? Let's find out.

FULL DISCLOSURE:
This video is not sponsored nor did I receive any money. While I sometimes get bags for free, I have to pay custom fees, shipping fees and all my videos have lots of production costs (e.g. software and musicrights). Therefore I invest my own money into all of these videos and I have no intention to be biased towards a product or company. All opinions in this video are my own unless stated otherwise.
HOW I REVIEW:
As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICKLOOK AND A REVIEW:
A Quicklook usually covers pre-production units or items that I only used for a short period of time. While Reviews cover final items that I have reviewed intensively.
LINKS:
For all my videos I decided not to include links for the products. Everyone is living in different countries and therefore has to deal with different shipping and customs fees. That is why I would advice everyone just to Google the product within their country to find the best deals.
For instance: I live in Germany, It wouldn’t make sense to give you a German link while you might be living in USA or Asia. I hope that is understandable.

Hello Bo! I'm an official YKK distributor and from the look of the zippers those would be the RC (racquet Coil) model. These zippers were specially designed for luggage applications where resistance to abrasion is a must. The strength is more than enough for the application so I find it very difficult for them to fail. The reason why they feel "flimsy" is because the sliders don't have a automatic lock like other products, so they don't offer any resistance when you open them. Hope this info helps! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Cheers!

I own the 31l-version myself for about 1 1/2 years now, my girlfriend got the 21l at the same time. We use it for literally everything, never found it too heavy (for what it is of course) and so the bags saw more heavy weekly groceries than camera gear. The zippers on the camera flap (by the way, it's awesome to be able to divide the inside into two compartments even without the camera cube while daily shopping. Heavy stuff, bottles, cans etc. goes into the bottom half, delicate items into the upper) held on fine, and they show literally no wear. Actually I worry about the two more heavy dute zippers on the outside more. We also never had problems with the magnets (given that you're not overloading the bag) and I wouldn't trade them for velcro in a lifetime. They could however be stronger, I give you that. And yeah, the front pocket could be better organized.

Bo Ismono's review is completely on point. I felt the exact same way about the smaller, more finicky zippers inside (compared to the outside zippers that literally bring joy every time they are used), the too-weak-to-be-useful magnets for the top handles (a great idea marred by execution that just misses the mark) and the front compartment that could have been structured to be even more useful. One other point I will mention: the 21L is way too small to be useful. I suspect it may be for unusually small frames, perhaps for females? Too late to return mine, but I'll be purchasing the 31L now. This backpack is something else. Highly recommended.

Hi Bo. Thank you for this comprehensive review! Regarding your "negative" point about the magnet on the handles, is this the original (version1) of the PRVKE 31L you reviewed? If I'm not mistaken, I think WANDRD came out with an "All New" version of the PRVKE, which addresses the handle magnet strength issue, among other improvements. Thanks again!

I actually own this bag and it's truly awesome. 😊 When you put it on, it's quite compact, so I wouldn't want anything smaller. The inside pockets with clamshell opening were used on a recent shoot just as you said: open up, everything right there, then you pack different stuff in the top, roll-up portion. Build quality is killer, comfort level high. Will likely take this on all of my next photography tours.

When I was first looking for camera bags it came down to the Wandrd 21L or the Peak Design 20L and I settled on the Peak because when I played around with the Wandrd it just didn't feel as premium or as well thought out as the Peak and I am happy I chose the Peak, it's still a cool looking bag though, if I found one super cheap I would probably still grab one.
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't tested the Peak yet. It's still high on my wishlist. However, when looking at the Peak Design, I assume that it doesn't work as well as a regular daypack compared to the Wandrd. Do you use the peak design for regular uses as well?
@venom5809
@venom5809 4 жыл бұрын
@@Youknowthebo The main thing with the Peak is if you have papers, business papers man 😉, it won't work well, anything more than a thin folder will be an issue. I generally have my DSLR and another lens on the bottom and then have my stuff all above it, so I only use one divider really. I can fit a decent amount of stuff inside and then I strap my jacket to the outside using the straps and that works well. I wouldn't use it as a serious camera backpack though, I would probably use something like a LowePro for that. What really sells the Peak is when you fly, place the backpack on the ground by your legs with the top facing you and OMG, it is so convenient when you need to grab or put stuff back, you will never want to fly with anything else. I have a lot of bags but I will never fly without my Peak ever again. Also thanks to my new AirPods Pro, I no longer need to carry big headphones like my Bose ones so that frees up a ton of space and cuts down on weight also.

First/Erster ✌️ As said on Instagram: Waited for this review, although I already have the 21L and was thinking the 31L might have been the better idea - but I'll stick to the smaller version, especially as it is my EDC when roaming around Hamburg. The review really reflected my impressions after a good year of using the PRVKE. The small zippers are holding up well for now, only the black front shows some wear - I guess more easily than the other colors. I would also love some sort of separation in the front compartment. Otherwise: loving the bag. Thanks for another great review!

I've had this bag (though the 21L version) as an EDC since the Kickstarter campaign (~2016) and I just love it. It has its cons as pointed in the video, bit the pros outweigh the cons by a mile. Unfortunately I'm currently using a second bag due to one of the cons mentioned in the video: the quality of the side access zippers. A couple of months ago they came out from the zipper and, because they are waterproof, impossible for me to put them back. I must say though that the "Wander more, worry less" lifetime guarantee is not BS; I got a brand new bag merely a week after the first contact with Wandrd about the damage. Regarding the magnets, they were *much* stronger on the first version (Kickstarter) than the ones in my current bag. Guess that there was some issue that made Wandrd change the type of magnets used.. Apart from that, I can carry a lot of stuff in it, even with the 21. The downside is that it will make me sweat more on my back that what I'd like, but on the other hand I can have an extra t-shirt to change when I get to work 😁

bought the Wandrd Prvk 21L after watching this video review (plus some procastination, lol). Brought it out today loaded with a Sony A7R2 mounted with 16-35 F4 and 2 other prime lens. Initial thought are the camera cube is not very well designed. Straps are comfortable but the design of the bag means that the overall bag is leaning away from you, which makes the overall bag feels heavier on your shoulder. This is as opposed to say, when i am carrying a bag with load lifters which allows me to bring the bag (and overall weight plus centre of gravity) back towards me. i've yet to really really test this bag out but i don't reckon i'll be bringing this bag with me on any overseas trip which require me to walk long distance.
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the bag. I found the bag comfortable to carry. I didn't notice it feeling heavier due to the pull, but with already 12kg on my back it is hard to determine if the bag feels heavier due to the weight distribution. Compared to a dedicated camera bag, the camera cube feels inferior. However, as this is a "hybrid" bag in my eyes, I am willing to take some tradeoffs for the option to transform the bag. But I totally see your point.
@kiatography22

@@Youknowthebo Nonetheless, after using so many hybrid bag (mixing EDC plus camera requirements), the PRVK is definitely amongst the better options in the market right now. Hi Bo.. Kinda torn between the PRVKE 21 w/ essential deep and the Boundary Errant w/ cb-1. Primary use of this pack will be for my dlsr camera + accessories while traveling abroad. Will also be taking my 15-inch laptop + accessories as well as an emergency change of clothes (shorts, t-shirt, flipflops, stowable rain jacket). With all that said which is the better pack for my use?
@Youknowthebo
@Youknowthebo 2 жыл бұрын
Hey David. With everything that you mentioned, I would probably recommend the Wandrd. It is much more flexible in terms of expandability. So you can fit much more into it compared to the errant. The errant overall is a great bag, but it has much less capacity then the volume metrics would suggest. In my review of the errant I mentioned that in practice it is much smaller than I anticipated.

Have this bag as my current EDC+onebag travel bag since mid-2018. The first trip I used it on was a fairly intense two week cross-European jaunt, from Iceland to Scotland to Norway to Sweden to Finland, mostly on planes and trains. It's holding up well. I was concerned about going with a no-name brand with an unspecified type of tarpaulin, but so far I'm pretty pleased. It's also just the right style to make the transition from travel bag to EDC without screaming camera bag. My impression of the negatives mostly match the ones in this video, weight being the biggest downside, but I'd also note that the interior of the bag has a little bit of a constriction where the roll top part mates with the rest of the bag. A packing cube that precisely fits in the top of the bag may have trouble clearing the constriction when accessed through the roll top. Clothing is pretty forgiving so this constriction hasn't been a huge issue, but using the bag to haul boxes to the post office sometimes requires opening the clamshell because it won't fit through the constriction.

my research into this bag matches the zippers "issue" you highlighted. As a photographer, especially if you are on the move, I personally am not those who gently unzip the zippers. I mostly just yank the zippers as fast as possible to get access to my camera to capture the moment. I'm still a bit hesitant on the zippers and thats the one and only factor that is making me lean more towards Mindshift bags compared to the PRVK. That said, i hate that non-removable hip belt on the Mindshift :(

I'm the same with zippers during shootings. There is a comment that said the zipper failed after one or two years, however he had good experience with the Wandrd warranty. If you are in the US this would be a big plus for the Wandrd. If you are outside of the US, international shipping costs would probably be the only consideration for the warranty. That being said, I would still highly recommend this bag. The zippers are ykk and have hold up three weeks of extensive use.

As for a Bo Ismono edition bag, if it comes along, that would be great, That Peter Mckinnon bag, I like the idea of one bag for all things and all of his accessory kits that it can accommodate, its just more than I need, I do like that is has a part that separates into a day bag so you don't have to carry everything with you. @@Youknowthebo I do not have any camera gear. Actually, I do have but I rarely grab it. Currently, I am searching for a really good tech bag for laptop, optionally secondary laptop, iPad and other crap. Black ember seems great. Tho' seems a bit bulky. I kinda like WPRT but not 100% sure about the purchase.

@@Youknowthebo You did not enjoy WPRT as I understood from your video, correct? However, I believe that most cons you've mentioned are solved with WPRT insert. What about forge and citadel, which felt better?

I wanted to see how to take a gimbal. (Because there is a photo of a gimbal on the thumbnail) I'm just doing a pretty video clip like this. It's just a review. What is actually helpful is zero.

The title says "backpack review" and not "how to pack a gimbal" btw. The thumbnail shows everything I was able to pack. Not sure why found this misleading
