Күн бұрын

Well, 2016 was actually a pretty good year for me railfanning wise, even though it sucked when you look at the big picture. I caught a lot of stuff I hadn't seen before or hadn't seen in a while, and I traveled quite a bit this year. Because of the amount of great stuff I caught, I've broken this video into two parts. This is the first part covering the first half of the year, from January to June. The catches in this video are:
-The RBB&B Blue Circus Train leaving Huntsville
-NS 335 with Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern engines trailing
-NS 6354 pulling NS A81, my first time catching an SD40E
-An ex-Burlington Northern rail crane
-A rather short and odd BNSF train, first time catching a BNSF ES40DC
-First time catching an NS tri-clops SD60M leading, first time catching a Canadian Pacific EMD engine, first time catching NS I3N
-One of NS's ex-Conrail D8-40Cs leading NS 325
-SD70 leading NS 325
-First time catching a 7000-series SD60E, first time catching NS I2N
-Catching CSX R518 with four CSX C40-8Ws pulling it
-First time catching a Tier-4 GEVO, also a Tier-4 GEVO trailing behind a YN2 AC44CW
-Union Pacific tri-clops SD60M trailing on NS 201
-NS 911 for the first time on NS 362
-First time catching an ex-Southern Pacific SD40M-2 still in the patched SP paint
-NS 1000 (NS's first SD70ACe) leading NS 737
-The Veterans Unit leading NS 325
-A pair of SD80MACs and the Southern Heritage Unit pull NS 201
-First time catching a GP20M-Q
-An empty Rail Train with an SD60M leading it
-First time catching an SD90MAC leading
-First time catching NS 26Q, D9-40C leading NS 26Q
-All YN2 lash-up on a CSX train
-AC6000 leading an ET44AH on a northbound CSX Intermodal
-First time catching a GP20M-Q leading
-First time catching a GP20D
-CSX V445 forgetting his conductor, an all YN2 lash-up on CSX V445
-SD60I leading NS 26Q with a friendly crew
-First time catching HMCR 8527 leading
-The Nickle Plate Road Heritage Unit trailing on NS 325
-All three (at the time) of the HMCR's operational engines together
-D9-40C leading NS 201
-SD70 leading NS 325
-The last NS 325 I caught
-The "Original Norfolk Southern" Heritage Unit trailing on NS 163
-The Wabash Heritage Unit trailing on NS 201
-Two SD60Es pull NS 17A
-D9-40C leads NS 201
-First time catching NS 117 (the train that replaced NS 325)
-First time catching an NS engine leading a CSX train
-YN2 AC44CW leading an ET44AH on a CSX Intermodal Train
-NS 911 leading NS 117
-The NS Geometry Train
-First time catching an SD40T-2 leading
-First time catching the NS GoRail engine, NS GoRail engine leading NS 201
-First time catching a CSX Road Slug leading, first time catching a CSX GP38-3
-First time catching the CSX Colonel Phillip Hooper engine
-NS 362 with 15 engines and the first shipment of NS's brand new ET44ACs
-First time catching the CSX OCS train
-NS 362 with the largest lash-up of engines I've ever seen (17 engines) and another shipment of NS ET44ACs
-First time catching an Amtrak B40-8W
-First time catching the LORAM Rail Grinder
-All YN2 lash-up on a northbound CSX Intermodal Train with three engines
-High-hood GP38-2 leading NS A81
-First time catching an NS ET44AC in revenue service
-An NS Operation Lifesavor-painted SD40-2 leading an ES44AC on NS A82
-Empty BNSF Coal Train with only two engines on it
-NS 362 with a Yard Slug trailing
Part 2 (which'll cover July to December) should come out later today. Southeast US Railroad Crossings 2016 and my compilation video of people running active railroad crossings will come out soon as well. The second part can be watched here:

0:55 wow! You don't see self-propelled cranes move that often, especially at a crossing! 1:18 wow! that is a nice catch! I thought the train was going to be longer! 2:22 I've only seen one SD60E in person, and it's nothing special! 2:56 I like this paint scheme better than the plain blue! 3:40 Nice catch of an SD40-3! 4:16 were you expecting NS 9-1-1? It's pretty cool you caught it leading! 4:41 I don't think CSX uses their SD70Ms that much anymore! 4:43 Wow! An old SP unit on the same train! 5:22 you even caught the veterans unit? What type of horn does it have? 5:42 The only special NS power I've seen in the KC area were two Operation Lifesaver units (one I saw this year, while trying to find a heritage loco!) 6:06 Where was this? I don't know the map of the NKCR! 6:30 I like that horn! It has to be an S3L! 6:38 the conrail boxcar doesn't seem to be that faded! 7:22 was that SD90 rebuilt yet? 7:45 WOW! there must've only been less than 20 narrow nose Dash 9s built! 8:06 something must be wrong with the crossing lights! 9:07 what type of crossing bell is that? 11:22 I've only seen a freight train stop while I was watching it when the middle passed me twice! 12:53 that must be an S3L horn as well! 13:46 what a San Luis and rio grande loco doing so far from Alamosa? 14:19 so HMCR has a Southern high hood and normal version of the same GE U boat! 17:58 why weren't the gates lowered? 18:33 WOW! you cuaght NS 9-1-1 leading two different trains in the same year?! 19:00 do NS 38 and 34 still have cab controls, or are they just for carrying inspectors? 19:29 so Sp tunnel motors are still at work in gray with red ends! 19:59 You're rally lucky for finding all the special SD60Es in the span of one year! 20:20 Is 2264 the only rebuilt GP30 of CSX to still have its original shape? 21:13 I guess CSX is the last American railroad to name some of their locomotives! 22:08 WOW! a 15 locomotive lash-up! I saw a BNSF 13 locomotive lash-up this year (It didn't have any freight cars) 22:57 I guess CSX's business cars are the rarest of all the Business cars owned by major American railroad companies! 22:37 YEEEAAHH BOII! 17 locomotives long! are these the same teir 4s as earlier? 23:58 What day was it Taken? (it would've been awesomer to be the Captial limited carrying charger 4604!) 24:05 what did Amtrak do with their old Diners? Some should be sent to museums! 24:40 the Loram engines look a lot like Australian ones or the GT46! 25:19 what's that car between the caboose and tank car used for? I've seen a Loram grinder set three times, but never moving! 25:47 I've seen that strange e bell mounting place on a Sherman Hill crossing! 26:05 what type of horn is that? 27:12 I've seen this loco arrangemnt on a few UP trains, but never a BNSF train!

2:56 I like this paint scheme better than the plain blue! - I agree, YN2 is probably CSX's best paint scheme. 4:16 were you expecting NS 9-1-1? It's pretty cool you caught it leading! - Yes. Thanks! 4:41 I don't think CSX uses their SD70Ms that much anymore! - They do sometimes. Not nearly as often as their GEVOs and AC44s though. 5:22 you even caught the veterans unit? What type of horn does it have? - Yep. A fouled RS5T. 6:06 Where was this? I don't know the map of the NKCR! - Cherry Street in Attalla, AL on the ATN. The ATN is borrowing the engines from their sister railroad, the NKCR. 6:30 I like that horn! It has to be an S3L! - I think it's an RS5T, but I'm not sure. Sounds nice, either way. 7:22 was that SD90 rebuilt yet? - No idea, but I don't think so. 7:45 WOW! there must've only been less than 20 narrow nose Dash 9s built! - Actually, there were 125 standard-cab Dash-9s built, all for Norfolk Southern. 8:06 something must be wrong with the crossing lights! - Just the LEDs messing with my camera. They worked perfectly fine in person. 9:07 what type of crossing bell is that? - General Signals Type 3. 12:53 that must be an S3L horn as well! - Yea, I believe that's an RS3L. 13:46 what a San Luis and rio grande loco doing so far from Alamosa? - The HMCR bought it from the SLRG. 14:19 so HMCR has a Southern high hood and normal version of the same GE U boat! - The high-hood is actually a B23-7 (note the flared radiators) while the high-hood is a U23B. Pretty much tow generations of the same model of engine. 17:58 why weren't the gates lowered? - The gates weren't installed yet, so the gate mechanisms weren't hooked up. I don't think the old relay case had relays for the gate mechanisms anyways, as that's what those signals were operating off of at the time. 18:33 WOW! you cuaght NS 9-1-1 leading two different trains in the same year?! - Yep. 19:00 do NS 38 and 34 still have cab controls, or are they just for carrying inspectors? - No idea. 19:59 You're rally lucky for finding all the special SD60Es in the span of one year! - Thanks! 20:20 Is 2264 the only rebuilt GP30 of CSX to still have its original shape? - No idea. 22:37 YEEEAAHH BOII! 17 locomotives long! are these the same teir 4s as earlier? - Nope. That's a different shipment of Tier-4s. 23:58 What day was it Taken? (it would've been awesomer to be the Captial limited carrying charger 4604!) - 6/16/16. 24:05 what did Amtrak do with their old Diners? Some should be sent to museums! - No idea. 25:19 what's that car between the caboose and tank car used for? I've seen a Loram grinder set three times, but never moving! - IDK. Probably extra power. 25:47 I've seen that strange e bell mounting place on a Sherman Hill crossing! - It's CSX's standard mounting. UP's standard is similar, but a bit farther down. 26:05 what type of horn is that? - IDK. Maybe a P3?
