Buying US treasury bills and notes at original issue can be a good option too, especially those living in high state income tax states. Not taxed on state tax returns.

Financial Resources Federal Credit Union out of NJ is offering 5.5% on a 12 month CD, with relationship bonuses taking it up to 5.8% (5.96% APY) - hard to beat.

Treasury direct for 4 week t bills paying 5.31 is not bad. They take 1991 dollars and change and give back 2000.00 in 28 days. I roll them every week with 20 percent of checking, keeping 20 percent as a buffer for bills and 80 percent always invested.

Same problem you had for verifying my ID which is absurd. I think BMO is just collecting personal data and is very concerning giving they get your SS #.

We just added 10K into a 9 month @ 5.04% and another 10k for 6 months at 4.45%. Local small banks.

What are the earnings on each at the end? Maybe my math is incorrect but it seems like a very small gain. Am I incorrect here? I'm new to this.

@MrAjtaylor1 It's only a few hundred dollars per year in interest per 10k. That interest is also taxed. It's about as high of an interest earing rate as we have seen in 15 to 20 years. I'm a royalty stock trader and also like energy stocks. However I'll just keep what I don't need quick access to in a CD, I hope it's 'safe' lol. Other than those I'll keep my real savings in a gold/silver IRA.

What’s the max Want to put in a ladder 100,000 on each But some of my savings is just as high I got a loan against 200,000 Put that in a higher savings and bank . Making money on both . My loan is only 3.5 while I receive 5 on both the loan and one of my savings . So basically my interest pays my loan

One problem with ur borrowing arrangement is that you pay tax on the 5% but don’t get a deduction from tax for the 3.5% (if u do, let us know how), so the earnings are eaten up by tax. Of course if u sell puts against the cash earning 5%, you have another revenue stream and you are golden. U can not sell puts against cd but u can against a mutual fund…

Taxed as regular income. You'll get a 1099 INT form from the bank that paid you interest and you'll have to add that to your income for the year you earned it.
