I have an MS 391 that has been flawless for 10 years of firewood cutting and storm cleanup. Always starts, runs great. Just this last fall of '23 (Californian here, buying before the engine ban,) I bought a cs-620p as my 391's successor, should it ever die. The 391 isn't a pro saw and it certainly not built to the same standard as the Echo but it is comfortable and rips well in it's own right. I own 5 other Echo tools, some going back to the mid 70's, and the reliability and simplicity of them is beautiful to me. This 620p is so light and rips so much harder than the 391 for being ~5cc's lesser. Keep your computers out of my engines. Give me carb screws, a screwdriver and a good ear. Keep the 2 strokes roaring in the forest.

I bought Echo 620p last month with 20 bar and chain for less than 540 plus tax. Metal + simplicity = reliability. Be sure to use fuel stabilizer such as STABIL in the last tank filling before storage. It will be easy to start it even after months of storage. I used to clean the carbs of my lawn mowers and waste my time. After I started to use STABIL, they start from the first of second pull even when I use gasoline with Ethanol.

We have several Echos, they are simple and very dependable. we have a couple non-X series saws that run with no problems though we now buy only X series. that's just what we chose to do knowing all Echo products are very good. we spend a little more for the X series. Personally, I've owned Sthill and still have a couple saws that run great, but the price was what I took into consideration. after buying the first Echo a few years ago for the business. it was a no brainer from a price point to go with Echo. That's just what we did. I know there's a lot of loyalty that goes into brands of whatever it is. Ford, chevy, dodge, Sthill, echo, Husqvarna, Nike, puma, wrangler, Levi's ect,ect,ect. Most of everything we purchase is personal preference and that's okay with me.

Howdy Brock! I love the smell of 2 stroke exhaust and sawdust in the morning... 😁 Pretty cool breakdown of the 3 models. I have found chainsaws are like pick-up trucks. Everybody has their brand and they tend to be loyal. I have Stihls... probably because my dad had Stihls, and my grandpa had Stihls... they ran all day for decades. Gotta be careful now though... like many companies each has their cheaper 'prosumer' class of saws. So the name might be there, but the quality may not. Nicely done and thanks for sharing 🤠

@@oakiewoodsman My choice of Stihl was more because of familiarity with the brand, not because of any dislike for the others. Plus I used to know the local Stihl dealer, and there was a certain comfort level with that as well. Service can make all the difference in the world! I am currently a pretty light saw user... and TBH my EGO battery powered saw handles most of my needs. Sometimes I still fire up the Stihl just because... lol 🤠

The Echo is great for the weekend or light/medium use person and great bang for $. Would have liked to see the same size bar and same brand chain (Oregon or similar) new on each saw to make it a test of the power head. Kind of like tires on a car, you don't put mud tires on to run a drag race, just saying to make things equal.

I’ve got both Husky and Stihl. The Stihl is the only one with an inboard clutch. But I prefer the balance of an outboard clutch. For me and my personal needs, of the one Stihl and two Huskys, each has specific uses. But the two more powerful saw, have a degree of overlapping capability. For ref: I very rarely cut softwood. H. 545 Mk1, .325”, .058”, Oregon full chisel full comp on 15” light-weight bar, (sometimes 18”) H. 550 Mk2, .325”, .058”, Oregon full chisel full comp on 18” light-weight bar, (sometimes 15”) S. MS500i, 3/8”, .063”, Stihl RS full chisel full comp on 25” Rollomatic bar 545 used for small felling, up to 15” dia. stems, pre-charcoal prep. and hedgelaying. Light saw and 40+mins. per tank. 550 used for small-med felling, up to 36-38” dia. stems, pre-charcoal prep. and firewood. Lightish weight saw, with good power and 40mins. per tank. 500i used for med-large felling, greater than 20” dia. stems, a bit if milling and firewood. The only thing I dislike about the 500i, is weight and it drinks fuel, maybe 20mins. per tank.

Of the name brand saw those are probably the best 3 to buy. I had one Craftsman ( bought new in 06 ) saw and it was really good and lasted a long time. I actually had used some bad mix gas and locked the saw up. Used wd40 and liquid wrench to free it up and used it up until I bought a bigger 18 inch Echo saw. My Echo is the 420 and has been a great saw never a problem with it. Had it since 2017. The worst saw i ever had was a Polan Pro 18 inch. Man that thing was great for about 4 cuts then would quit. Wouldn't idel on it own. I wouldn't recommend that saw to my worst enemy.

I can help answer this. We have similar lengths but different link and pitch sizes. More to come on this. The Stihl hadn't been started in months and it started great. The 562XP always starts easily especially when cold. When hot, they require a high speed idle and a pump of the fuel bulb depending on temperature. The Echo always starts 3-4 pulls but always starts more easily without the decomp

The Toyota 22r was wayyy overbuilt for the power it put out. It would run until it quit mainly because it didn’t have enough power (output) to kill itself. You can’t say that about a Ferrari, or Porsche. I can completely agree with your assessment of the Echo …and I’m a chainsaw snob. Out of them all I can completely agree with you about the detuned Echo. Same as above. They make the carb the way they do because they know most people will let the saw sit for long periods of time. And with its relatively narrow bore/ long stroke it has the torque to just back off a little wait a dang hot second and let the big bar eat. They are made out of super reliable parts and I can agree with the engineering of this saw as-is. I’d definitely say it’s a 22r Vs. Ferrari like the Husky. Stihl only dominates because it has 10x the dealer coverage. Given enough money Poulan could do that. That’s perception. Chainsaws are archaically cave-man simple machines it’s not like it’s hard. Its a deck that holds bearings with basically an internal combustion jet motor on top. They are so simply built it’s ridiculous to compare seat of the pants power and since you’re lucky to find ONE Husky dealer to TEN Stihl it’s ridiculous to compare the quality too. You can swing a dead cat and hit a Stihl tech. Try that in my area with a Husky. But I do love Husky lungs better though.

I’m not an expert, but from what I’ve seen the stihl Pro saws are the best. It’s a lot of money, but if you have to think about how long you are going to have the saw

I ran farm bosses for years the 362c is where it’s at for medium saws if you’re gonna get a stihl pony up little more cash and get a pro model you won’t regret it you made stihl look slow here when it’s by far the better saw I wouldn’t take fifty echos and huskys for even one my stihls
@oakiewoodsman
@oakiewoodsman 6 ай бұрын
I understand you like Stihl Saws but the results are the results. It is common knowledge that the 362 is lighter than the 562XP and the 620 but slower. The 562XP keeps up with a 400C is most cases. The 462C and the 500i are incredible saws. Lets be real and acknowledge every tool has its purpose and place. Strengths and weaknesses

Too bad husqvarna doesn't make the 465 rancher anymore, it had autotune in it too. Would have fit perfectly in a comparison like this
@oakiewoodsman
@oakiewoodsman 6 ай бұрын
For the money, I believe the rancher saws do not make as much sense. Husqvarna Sells the 562XP and the 555. The 555 is the same with slightly different tuning, less money and the same magnesium cases. Plus, it is still 60CC. They are screaming saws and just came out with the MARK II version.

The 465 would have only been in comparison to the ms391. Yea it had 4.2hp vs 3.62hp the 460 rancher has but also gained almost 1# in weight. And all the ranchers are stratocharged clamshells.

Jason, when you see the 500i video coming out tomorrow it is pretty impressive. It is really close between the ported 660 clone that I brought which is an absolute animal. What do you prefer?

Sir , you are incorrect. I have had to remove the power unit twice on my Husqvarna. The fuel injection etc , was a little odd at first , having no tuning option figured would be terrible. Kinda like when the evolution replaced the shovelhead though... After the bitching & moaning bout change, superiority showed up 😢 !

Not sure why you said you can't take the Sawhead off in a pinch with the Husqvarna? I did just yesterday. As long as the brake is disengaged you can. Also, I can't believe there are people that won't admit that Husqvarna is the G.O.A.T no doubt

Personally, I made no comment on that because I’ve never owned a Husqvarna but I can’t say that the majority of pros run stihl saws Not like 90% majority but like at least 60/40. Power to weight ratio.
