I used to make this often when my sons were little. Love it. So easy.( added celery, pimentos, peas at the end, but no mushrooms or peppers.) I served with rice, or on toast.

I love good ol' Chicken a la King. I'm really old-school, though, as I like jarred pimentos, sliced button mushrooms (horrors!), and wee green peas in my sauce. :)

Love it, still make my mums recipe to this day. We use very toasted bread, and it works great - Italian bread is good but plain white is fantastic

I ate alot of chicken ala king growiing up. Makes a great chickem pot pie too. Add some sweet peas and carrots. Made with sherry chicken stock on Wheat toast. Milk or cream green onion is Sam the Cooking Guy recipe😂

The chili sauce makes up for the lack of flavor when milk is substituted for the cream.

My mom used to make this, but she only ever used canned or frozen peas and carrots. Yours looks way better!

Chicken a la king - oh, hell yeah! Now, if you're looking for something in the same genre and of similar vintage, try making ham a la craft. It goes great with toast.

Nice Sam I’ve made this a few times.I deglaze the pan when making the roux with a splash of sherry wine,a pinch of nutmeg.:pepper ,and a third cup heavy cream over egg noodles🇨🇦🇨🇦🇺🇸👍

I've been watching the series Barry, and the character portrayed by Henry Winkler is fond of Chicken a la King at a particular restaurant. I haven't thought of this since I was a kid, and my mother and sister would eat the Swanson canned version. I wouldn't touch that due to the mushrooms, and a repulsion to cream sauces. Well, that was a very long time ago - and I'm going to give this a go!

Did Canada have their version of sh!$ on a shingle? I made chicken ala king for my family in the 70-90's. Served with rice or egg noodles. I used pimento for the red and added a little Worcestershire sauce to the mix.

When the US invaded Panama en 89, this was one of the things that came in their MRE rations. When the invaders left the country, they gave us boxes of this MRE rations. I ate chicken a la king for a whole year. Can´t eat this shit never again!

I don't understand your "thing" about white button mushrooms. You seem ok with the brown button mushrooms which are exactly the same thing except they weren't raised in the dark. And white button mushrooms have a good mushroom taste although I suspect you don't actually know what real food tastes like. You could dice up a kitchen sponge, add a couple of cloves of garlic, chili sauce or mustard, plenty of salt and pepper and swear it was the best thing you ever ate. Your recipe for beef stroganoff and this one for Chicken ala king positively horrified me with you perpetual flavor profile. Try white button mushrooms some time and see why they are as popular as they are.
