Feudal elective has a tendency of backfiring for me. Unless I play really tactically, which is possible with the visible health bar in CK3, feudal elective has a tendency to, after a while, cause other characters to gain priority in the election. I prefer house seniority before feudal elective.

I'll throw my own tip into the ring. When starting as a count or duke, don't create the default kingdoms. Conquer as many duchies as you can and create a custom kingdom. That way every duchy you hold becomes a de jure title in your custom kingdom. This works really well in Africa and could give you a really solid start when you go for the Mother of us all achievement. With an empire-sized kingdom, any kingdoms you lose in future can be easily recaptured and if you don't have too many heirs you have time to integrate kingdoms into your primary kingdom.

I prefer not letting the realm fracture if at all possible. Even which a much smaller realm, second sons seem to always want to declare a claim war for your primary title. The most straightforward to manipulate succession is to select a county with multiple baronies, at least 5, 6 if you can. You will want as many castles as possible, so Rome is bad because it starts with multiple churches. Focus on buildings just in your capital.

Another good path is pre inheritance, titles your heirs hold count towards their inheritance. If you can rapidly expand give new lands to your second sons so the have crap land and don't steal the good land from your main heir. It also could theoretically be useful to just let your realm fracture to have multiple independent rulers in your dynasty for renown. (Especially if the splinter states are weaker than you for easy reconquest)
@felixmarquart1356

What you can also do is judt Holding one of your highest titles. So for example if a kingdom is your highest title dont make another kingdom but stay with the one you have right now. And then as soon as you pass away your primary successor gets the kingdom and because there are no other titles that are higher all the other successors become vassals to the primary one
@Alister222222
@Alister222222 2 жыл бұрын
My general strategy is to just hold one duchy, one kingdom, and one empire. Since your kingdom and empire can't be split, if you give all your non-primary heirs a single duchy somewhere (just go to war for it - holy war for duchy, ftw) their entire inheritance will be satisfied. You will keep all your holdings, your primary empire, your capital kindgom, and your capital duchy. Your holdings can be anywhere in any kingdom, and as long as you've already given that kingdom title away your heirs don't get to touch the leftover holding you have - provided they have been given a duchy title. If they don't have a duchy, the succession switches to sharing out counties, which is when you lose your actual holdings (the only part that really matters). You can even keep holdings that are IN the duchies you give to your heirs, as long as you pre-give the duchy titles out. If you wait til death, those heirs will get the de jure holdings along with the duchy, which might be a problem if one of those holdings has a special building you would rather keep.

Personally, I've learned to love confederate partition. It really works well if you lean into it heavily. Often enough my sons already have titles, an the ones that don't end up as independent kings that can be easily readded to the empire if I want. As a result, I now have allies from Asturias to Mesopotamia who all have at least 3000 levies. On top of that, since I am house head I can call them all to war for little to no cost to myself. It is satisfying to call half the known world to your side whenever you want. It pairs really well with raiding + concubinage, starting as Bjorn in 867 after a few generations I somehow have a kingdom claim the Ummayads. It's also just really interesting to see your house spread and take on different forms. I think for my next playthrough I want to spread my dynasty from Ethiopia to England

The best trick I know is to get a 6-7 slot province and just own every barony, when you die gavelkind doesn’t not give away baronies so you basically don’t lose power on succession

I’ve formed the United Kingdom, including all of Ireland, just to have it ripped apart when my favorite King died. The realism is tragic

I just send as many children to be monks as possible (usually play Catholic or orthodox) and disinherit the rest until my preferred heir remains. It usually keeps me until primogeniture.

Personally I go for dynasty head and than disinherit my other eligible heirs. Usually than turning around and still granting them lots of lands, (so opinion hardly changes) than allying with them. If my main heir dies I can always re inherit others.

I did the same for Ireland, I just used tannistry instead, since none of my family members are vassals, my primary heir gets all my domain.

As others have mentioned not all nations have access to these election laws in earlier starts. However the Norse do have access to a special Scandinavian elective law that is much cheaper to change to and basically does the same thing.

I usually just wait till I get old and then I disinherit my spares but I make them Dukes so they still get something and are vassals to my heir when he takes over.

If they're dukes they won't inherit any way unless you have multiple kingdom/empire titles for some reason

One thing that was missed in the video is you should make it a point to never have Vassals, besides Republic (Mayors), in those counties or else they will immediately be given the right to vote. Its always best to keep the entire duchy owned by you alone and if not, your heir. Keept this in mind especially when you get the Royal Court (if you have the DLC on) as there are a few decisions there which will give you options to give counties to vassals; most of them being the ones you own. If you're curious, Holy Orders are fine as they count the same as a functioning Mayor vassal just don't expect them to boost your development as well as normal mayors do. The only badside to this is when you're Tribal as doing this not only spends much needed Prestige to minmax scale but also you're basically already taking into account that you're going to stay in that place in the world foreseeably till the end of the game so no more Varangian Adventuring for you my friend.
