@@CodeineAbdulJabbar Um 😐 in the early days of football as in the early 1900’s by that I mean September 5 1906 Bradbury Robinson. Your statement was partially true but also false. Oh there is another problem too there wasn’t anyone until 1938. Who did officiating as in was a referee for American football until 1938. So as to wether or not the rules were followed to a tee is up for debate.

I wish a spring football league would form where they’d play without pads. Same uniforms just no hard helmets and hard shoulder pads.

According to Pudge Heffelfinger, the two greatest Ends were Frank Hinkey (Yale '95) and Tom Shevlin (Yale '06).

The only athlete close to Thorpe is an Englishman called C.B. Fry. He played international cricket for England for 17 years. Player football (soccer) in the winter being capped by England and playing in the 1902 FA Cup final. When available he played rugby for Blackheath, one of the top teams at the time. Didn't play rugby often enough to be capped by England, but played for The Barbarians on several occasions. In his spare time did a bit of athletics and set a long jump world record. In the negotiations for the treaty of Versailles, after WW1, he was allegedly offered the throne of Albania, but turned it down.

Clyde Williams Iowa 1898-1900. He lead Iowa to 2 undefeated seasons. They beat Michigan and Chicago in 1900. The first Rose Bowl 🌹 was originally planed for 1900, and Iowa would have been in it, but it was cancelled.

Great footage. First "Game of the Century" between #1 & #2 Army and Navy. 21-21 tie. Tom Hamilton and Chris Cagle. Two of the greatest college football players ever.

I heard Heffelfinger played pro ball until he was 50. I also heard he complained the runners he was blocking for couldn't keep up with him. I think there should be a pro award for linemen called the Heffelfinger Award.

He was certainly an important figure. But he only got a lot of recognition towards the end of his life as his pay to play a game didn't come out till late in his life or after he was dead. But his college career was amazing if the stats that I could find about him are true. Also thanks for watching

Who ever would have though San Jose St had such history? I knew a lot about Yale because they've won the most titles all-time and get a lot of mention for back then but I absolutely didn't know a lot of this. Very well done, Wronged Sports

@@WrongedSports Harley played for Ohio State; that's why the praise from Yost is just incredible. He was a 3-time All American. He was voted one of two First Team HBs for the Associate Press's 1900-1950 Half-century Team, with Jim Thorpe as the other First Team HB -- and Red Grange was second team. Ohio Stadium is known as "The House That Harley Built," because the Ohio General Assembly and local business leaders started raising money to build in 1918; people were getting hurt trying to get into the old stadium (that held only 20,000) because they wanted to see Harley play. He also played safety on defense, AND was the place kicker and punter. He still holds the Ohio State record for points scored per game. He also lettered in baseball, basketball, and track. In terms of actual ability, he WAS the second best player before 1920, period (it's hard to argue against Jim Thorpe). May I suggest you do a 20-minute video on Harley alone? I should add, I love your videos.

@@WrongedSports Harley played for Ohio State -- THAT'S why the praise from Yost was so compelling. Harley was First Team HB for the A.P.'s "Half Century Team," along with Jim Thorpe -- and Red Grange was Second Team. He also played safety on defense, was the place kicker, and was the punter. Ohio Stadium was built because people were getting injured trying to get into the old stadium to see Harley play -- Ohio Stadium is known as "The House That Harley Built" amongst diehard OSU fans. Harley also lettered in baseball, basketball, and track. He was so good at football that when George Halas was putting together a plan for the Chicago Bears, Halas gave Harley a contract giving Harley a ONE-THIRD ownership in the team, but the contract was voided when Harley was diagnosed with an extremely rare nerve pathology just a couple weeks after signing the contract. Put simply, Harley WAS the second best player before 1920 (it's hard to argue against Jim Thorpe). May I suggest you do a video on Harley alone? And I should add, I love your videos.
