For commercial vacuums, do a commercial test. Much of what you do does not really apply to a commercial application. Should have used paper clips and pennies for larger item pickups. Also, think about repairs and maintenance. The classic Sanitaire is easily repaired and parts are cheap. You can replace the roller brushes, or just the bearings, etc. This is one big reason why you'll still see a ton of these vacuums in buildings. The large debris kickback is not a huge issue for commercial cleaners. Most of us don't use uprights for hard floors, we use backpack vacuums or dust mops or autoscrubbers. You're using the same tests for commercial as you do for residential cleaning and they are not the same. Not many of us use a hose with tools, it is not efficient in the least.

Problem with "commercial tests" is it depends on the commercial application. Sure paper clips & pennies would be good for offices, schools, or a bank maybe. But what about a hotel, where there's a lot of grime, loose garbage, and bits of paper?

@@L44tsmasher735 same as a school. Most schools operate Sanitaire because of these objects, and can take a beating. They are great on carpet, especially residential carpet. Commercially, you want that big fan to quickly pick objects off the carpet, and if you add a magnet strip on the leading edge, it's only enemy becomes rocks, coins or similar non-magnetic objects

We use the Oreck for our daily commercial cleaning needs and it's done wonders. It's been so great because we have to continuously move from home to home, load and unload our truck, and carry it around the homes. The lightweight has been really good on our back and shoulders. I highly recommend it. Hoover hush tone looks great but too heavy to lug around. I have the red Sanitaire one as well, it's great but heavy. The Proteam vacuum died after a few years while the rest are still going strong.

I have a Santanaire SC-887 which I found discarded this model had the dirt trap/half bag. It was in pretty good condition, motor communicator was clean, carbon brushes had little wear. I did have to add a new line cord, replace the fan and obtain an adapter to use a HD commercial cloth bag I had. Same time I replaced the handle with a spare one I had. Going a bit further I added a headlight, got a headlight brezel from the business neighbor vacuum store. Still working great to this day.

Super weird how different they are compared to the vacuums used all over the world. Like we use attachments to begin with, the hose and a head like these.. and the base unit is separate. Weird how they kept the retro design. I mean I understand in the case of wireless vacuum cleaners (everything is in one place), but these wired ones, I don't know. Why? Americans, tell us!

I really appreciate the data you guys are collecting and comparing on these machines. It is really interesting and helpful, as I am looking to find a suitable replacement for the 'fleet' of 5 vacuums I've 'inherited' as a facilities director. I have been disappointed by the design, quality, but mostly the RELIABILITY of the PROTEAM XP1500. After the first 3 months of repairing various, repeated issues with each unit, I bought a new one and kept what parts were still worth keeping from the retired one. The beater brush motor failed on the new XP1500 in less than 9 months @ daily use of 1-2 hours on low-pile commercial carpet and entrance mats, and the 'wheels' were leaving black marks down the VCT corridors (not vacuuming, just traveling) by a year and a half. I've found that they are extremely top-heavy and prone to falling over (breaking the handle parts and power switch assy's). The suction path will clog All - The - Time over something as small as a 1/4 piece of a Post-It note. AND the plastic 'wheels' that have no bushings or bearings will wear out regularly and may require replacing the entire lower housing of the vacuum (and wheels) to fix the problem for another year or so. TOO MUCH PLASTIC for commercial use. I expect more reliability for $400 a piece. And I will probably end up spending more on Windsors in the future, since I experienced WAY fewer problems with them (and more hours/day) at a facility where I was previously employed. I would be interested in some long-term testing/cost comparison of these models.

Good commercial vacuums have a separate motor for the vacuum and the brush roll, which is one reason why they are heavy, but they are also one pass vacuums, meaning you use them like mowing the lawn, run in a straight line, not moving it back and forth like a home vacuum. This is one reason training is important to educate the cleaning staff on how to properly use them, when someone complains they are too heavy they are almost always using them wrong. Also surprised you didn't include Advance, back when I was in the business the Advance was always a good selling commercial vacuum, Advance only makes commercial equipment, no home products.

Everytime I look at a sanitare vacuum it brings me back to my childhood of watching my grandmother vacuum with her old 1950s style vacuum she had for YEARs 😂😂, only because they don't make vacuums that style anymore only for commercial use can you get that vintage vacuum look.. I will say the vacuums now a days are more practical for us home users because they are stronger with the suction plus come with 150,000 different attachments which is so useful for spring cleaning and deep dusting all over your home.. How ever at the same time the new vacuums aren't as durable as the sanitare style vacuums of the past and present they made those things to last so for commercial use I can see it being perfect but for home use its probably not going to be as useful do to the lack of attachments which is essential to a good cleaning. 😉

@LlyleHunter
@LlyleHunter 4 жыл бұрын
At the beginning of the vacuum industry uprights were all very simple direct fan machines that were designed to clean rugs. Attaching attachments was an endeavor and because of their fan design they didn’t perform well with attachments. Canister vacuums were suction only machines with straight suction tools. They excelled at hard floor cleaning but couldn’t beat a rug clean. In 1961 the powernozzle canister appeared on the market. (Electrolux) It improved a canister’s ability to clean rugs but to this day doesn’t equal a direct fan upright’s ability to deep clean a rug down under the rug’s surface. Around the same time Hoover designed the Hoover Dial-a-Matic which was the world’s first clean air upright. Basically a powernozzle canister on a stick they perform averagely on rugs and carpets and well with tools. The Dial-a-Matic didn’t excel as a deep cleaning upright nor did it have the strong suction of a canister. It was also priced like more premium machines that performed very well so the type of vacuum didn’t become popular until decades later when three manufacturers ( Sebo, Electrolux and Regina) joined together to redesign the basic structure of the clean air upright. It wasn’t until the mid 1990s that clean air uprights became popular. The majority of the uprights in this test are clean air upright machines based on the basic design of the Dial-a-Matic and the Prolux is based on the design that sprang from the Sebo, Electrolux partnership. As you can see their ability to deep clean is lower than the cleaning ability of the direct air Sanitaire upright. It’s not an accident that the Sanitaire is designed as it is. It’s designed for a specific use. Consider that it’s a commercial machine. In an office building’s lobby during winter, a carpet can be covered and ground in with sand brought in from outside. In that kind of setting nothing comes close to the thoroughness of cleaning or the speed at which cleaning a section of building than a direct air upright.

You always see the Santiaire being used in retail settings. They would never waste time vacuuming hardfloor as they have special large cleaning/polishing/waxing machines that do that daily. They specifically need it for the carpet areas and it performs perfect there. Vacuuming hardfloor is basically unnecessary anyway. Broom and dust pan and mopping is all it needs.

Like Bruce said they were designed for doing one thing and doing it incredibly well, carpet vacuuming and as you saw in the full length review of the sanitaire it picked up deep embedded dirt and sand after all the others left stuff behind. Just incredible agitation and airflow. A lot of pro carpet cleaners use them for that reason so they get all the deep down dry stuff out of the way before using hot water and chemicals for cleaning.

Nice video. I worked in janitorial for a few companies through high school and college. Sanitaire was king at all places i worked. They lasted, were easy to get back in service if you had a problem, and left a beautiful groom job. All of the weight was low so you never really felt it and you typically took a shop vac in to do hard floors and edging so debris wasn't an issue, staples were the main thing you rant to into. I always wondered about that bag though, they would blow dust like the video right after they were emptied.

I agree about the perceived weight in the hand, they really do feel like they’re floating. But, airflow specs aside I’ve never found them to work worth a crap In actually cleaning and picking debris from the carpet in a low pile carpet environment. I’ll chase little pebbles (tracked in from shoes), thread/string, crumbs, you name it. It’ll usually be thrown behind, or just moved around by the brush but never picked up. I’ve done my fair share of tinkering with them trying to get any sort of cleaning performance out of them but it just isn’t worth it when you can get much better machines that will last far longer with less maintenance needs and downtime.

These tests are not all that appropriate for commercial settings. Lots of commercial accounts (or at least the big ones i.e. Aramark) don’t care much about price, and they normally wouldn’t be picking up very large debris. The main thing they care about is durability - instead of lifting it up the stairs, maybe you should’ve pushed it down them 😂. All that being said, it was a good review for homeowners and I love your channel.

The ProTeam Proforce is more than adequate at picking up small debris on rugs, but in normal use one does have to lift it at an angle and drop it down over the debris. I use this one all day as a custodian and it's not really an issue.

Hope u will reply to this🥺🥺 Since u are reviewing a lot of vacuums can I know from ur experience which vacuum is the best for filtering tricky dust like asbestos and not blow them back to the air🥺🥺 I’m going to have a asbestos removal at my house soon and after that I need a vacuum that I can use after they remove those🥺🥺 so I want to know a vacuum which has the best filter in it which will not blow back those particles into the air🥺🥺

You won't be allowed back into those areas until they pass an air sample test to verify that there is no abestos. And no vacuum will filter that crap out of the air other wise you wouldn't need abestos removal, people would just vacuum it up....

the carpet cleaning company i work for uses the proteam vac and also the clark (which was not tested here) for both residential and commercial cleaning. I personally prefer the Clark because of the tools and ease of use- the Proteam has the vac nozzle on the left side of the machine, and I am right-handed, so it is more awkward for me than the Clark. It also requires along lift to remove, compared to the Clark. I feel like King Arthur pulling Excalibur from the stone when I need to use the nozzle. The Clark is also easier to clear a blocked line. The big downside to the Clark is that the brush stalls too easily on a carpet with heavy pile (which is not a concern for commercial carpets).

So would you pick the Hoover Hushtone over the Dyson V11 & Shark Apex DuoClean (AZ1002) if you could have ONLY 1? Be honest!

In an instant, yes. Without the slightest hesitation. Why? - Shark vacuums, first of all, are not meant to be repaired. The company doesn't offer replacement parts and generally is doing things I consider to be a no-no. - Dyson vacuums have great SUCTION. What they don't tell you, however, is that SUCTION does nothing to deep clean a carpet compared to AIRFLOW. Also, the Hoover looks cooler. :^)

I think it is worth noting that for businesses the price often matters very little since a vacuum that is only a few percents faster at getting the job done will recoup the investment in no time. I think it would make sense to split off the price from the score for vacuums made for commercial use. If you want to go into more detail on price, perhaps try to figure out a way to calculate the price in relation to performance, preferably for each category. If you only need to clean hard floors, for example, the ability to clean carpets is pointless and gives no value in return for the extra investment.

I have a fitness center/gym and I have 2000 ft.² of artificial turf it’s almost like plastic. there is a very tight woven short turf and then there’s long-haired turf as well I was looking at the Clark carpet master 215 I was wondering if you thought the extra $200 is worth it for the clarke over the Hoover Hushtone… The machine im buying cannot be a light commercial unit it Has to last me.. So the question is do you have experience with the Clark carpet master 215 and if you do worth spending more than $200 over the price tag over the Hoover or do I just stick with the Hoover
