The latest demos and tunes in your videos sound really amazing, developed and mature!! I gotta check out these sample packs. Also this is a super cool concept, I’ve done 100% hardware live dawless but definitely feel the limitations and I’m gonna start exploring hybrid. Appreciate this amazing content for my transition!

Hey Liam, quick q about the octatrack. Are 2 stereo ins (1 left, 1 right and another 1 left 1 right) the max for stereo in? Or is it possible to have 4 stereo ins (with 4 individual trs stereo cables) going into the octa?

Hi Liam, i just like very much how you explain us how device are working. I haven’t found any good tutorial on the PC12 ( Loopop video explain what is capable of but not how do you do it ) I’m pretty shure you’de be the one to give a very clear tutorial on this machine Thank’s

I tend to use my Octa as the brain of my dawless setup (which is almost exclusively Elektron) and Ableton is the brain when writing and making stems. For the most part, my other gear is just stuff I pre-record then load into my Octa that plays really nice with my other Elektron boxes

I have to say that Perf Tepm is really a work of art in my humble opinion.. you should chechk the other versions of it too!! specially the ones with the flex tracks and the new Octacosm is also really interesting :) I'm getting more captivated by the OT thanks to EZBOT 🙏 and I learned a lot. (but gooood I need to have an RMX1000 please...)

Very cool. Been thinking about pairing Ableton with the octatrack more often. On the TR-8S, are your per channel knobs just midi mapped to effect sends or dry/wets in Ableton?

Yes! That's exactly how i'm using the TR-8S.

I have the APC40 mk1 set up in much the same way, I have drums or tops loops or little bits on each track in session view, and I just improvise by cueing tracks and hunting to find something nice, and jamming around on the faders. Then the octatrack provides midi sequencing and macro knob control for all the melodic stuff, and I bring both sets of audio separately into the OT like Matt describes, percussion on one set of inputs and melodic on the other. I’ve also experimented with bringing in other synths and drum machines, but that’s such a quick and jammable workflow, with a compact footprint.

thx.. would SP-404 MK2 also fit as an basic effect unit in a small setup? Have you tried it with the TR-8 and Ableton together?

Yeah it would! But using it + Ableton would be sort of redundant IMO.

Pardon if this was already answered, but why Launch Pad over Push? And would you swap out in the instance that you used it for production or Live sets?

I’m Not super familiar with push yet- as for production I think just a lap top is way stronger / faster than push, which is pretty clunky for composition

I really like this approach. I definitely want to give this a go. I wonder if using something like Baby Audio's Transit assigned to some of the TR8S knobs could do the work of the Octatrack/RMX1000. Transit seems to be a great plug in for modulating transitions. Your rhythmic and melodic tracks could be in Groups with insert FX on both groups. This would also keep you in Ableton as the master clock with no need for an Octatrack. I guess it would just be Tr-8s and Ableton (+ the launchpad)? Tr-8s is the audio interface and midi controller. I guess that's pretty similar to a previous Tr8s video you did though...

I would love to see you use the Standalone Push 3. It gives you most of what you’re doing in one device plus it’s an audio interface.

As someone who has most of what I see Liam use, but have a P3S and no OT, my thoughts are... The Push 3 is not a techno performance machine. It does EVERYTHING but performing on it sucks without an external controller. I know that sounds weird, but hear me out. The Push 3 Standalone does not let you control an instrument on track X, while launching a clip on track Y. Launching a clip on another track switches to that track's instrument. This just kills flow. I used the P3 exclusively for ~8 months, learned it inside out, and now I am back to my TR8s, and Elektron boxes. I think my SP404mk II will fit in as a master effector when I get that back on my desk. That or figuring out something creative with the MC707 and it's crazy scatter options. Push 3 is an amazing stranger for full compositions, but jamming and free flowing a performance isn't its strength. If I am honest, I think my TR8s is my desert island instrument. I wish it was built like an Elektron though. This has resulted in me gassing for a Rytm 😅

Hey Liam, big fan of your approach! I've been using that same fx template on my OT but couldn't figure out for the life of me how to rearrange the fx to different slots, could you point me in the right direction?

You can copy paste those FX to different slots in the template! I mention it in the video 😊

Thanks! I hunted this down further, so for anyone in the future looking at this: you cannot successfully copy scenes between parts if your tracks on the different parts are not set up in the same way. This was really tripping me up so now I’m looking on for fixes

Yeah I keep hearing people say they encounter issues when the OT is not the master midi but somehow I manage to avoid them despite having Live and my Digitakt both have transport privileges.

I use Overbridge btw, even if I run audio directly from DT/ST into the Octatrack or from Overbridge out my Volt into the OT and back into Live. I have my DT send midi to the OT and use Thru on the OT to pass midi to the ST - all with Overbridge being used in Live and individual tracks using Live’s external instrument devices on them. I dont know if many people realize this but you can still send audio out the mains of the DT/ST even when using Overbridge and doing audio over usb tracking within Live. Just a tip that might come in handy for readers.

that live looping thing is what I desssperately want my MPC to be able to do, and it's so frustrating that a device that's so powerful in sampling has so few live-compatible sampling and looping tools

@LiamKillen I mean... yeah... I WANT one, along with every other piece of gear, but I got the MPC for free and I don't have any more money, so I'm trying to make due with what I got XD (and there's other stuff I like about the MPC)

Yep, the MPC is frustrating. The people who do live jams with it have dexterity way beyond mine - I always end up with the wrong screen at the wrong time. I've tried using a controller but setting it up is so painful. They should let us just press the control on the screen and waggle the physical control to make the link instead of going off to a specialized screen.

Yeah, same with the Akai Force... I've been able to set up fx like on the octatrack template, but the live sampling is terrible😅 much easier for everything else than the MPC tho, macros are 💯

Hi I asked about the big six you have I can no longer work as was in a coma and in hospital for 5 months got pancreatitis I was planing getting the model 1 but that went out the window I ended up selling a lot of stuff to survive so I’m after a small mixer just don’t know what to get there Is so many and it’s difficult when your heart is set on the play differently can’t get credit so fxxk knows
