ABOUT THIS VIDEO
In this video we're building a live edge, epoxy, resin, slab desk. We've done a few live edge slab projects now, and so far we've been very restrained in our designs, making sure that we don't do anything to overshadow the slab itself. The wood slab top has always been the star of the show. In this project, we threw all of that out the window. The slab top is still an important part of the desk...but I think the base is the real star of the show here. I'm not sure if this was the right decision. But we wanted to give it a shot. So after you see the finished results, let us know what you think :)

Personally, I like the desk and would be interested if I needed a desk, however I am retired and live in a tiny house I built about 6 years ago. I checked y'all out after Blacktail mentioned you guys, I am glad I did, your dialog and content is pleasing and aesthetic. Hang in there and pay no mind to the jackasses who have zero appreciation for your knowledge and abilities. The faces are beautiful, but as a cabinet maker and a utilitarian, I was really hoping for a more creative solution to efficiently fitting the drawer boxes into an angled space. I don't know if there is a good solution for that. Also, I was surprised by plywood drawer boxes. While I have no problem with them in general, they seemed a little out of place on a project that otherwise seemed to be a level above that. I'll give it to you that they fit the modern aesthetic, but I think you could save money and up overall quality, but just ordering solid wood boxes from Rucker's or whoever. They barely show up in the video anyway.

Sir i believe the angle is product of few mistakes along the way and smart improvisation when things went south in severe manner during this project. Happy go lucky i would say. Well, it's just my humble opinion and although being an active Nasa contractor and.. It's a stunning result i'll agree if i must.

That's the most beautiful desk I've ever seen. The narration and camera work was a refreshing change from other woodworking vids. I'm blown away by your ability to flawlessly execute - and even gloss over - the things you know so well, and then go further out of your way to humbly acknowledge the nuances of what you've been learning. I can't believe the desk is still listed for sale. Update: as of February 2023 - 7 months after listing, 2 months after this comment, the desk sold for $6,500.

lol for $6,500 it looks good but it's totally impractical, the space to pass the legs under the desk is so cluttered, only kids can use it. this desk was designed by stupid designers who preferred shape over function. shame on you for supporting those stupid guys!

The author does like to kzfaq.infoUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

I know you're making an amazing desk, but I can't tell if its better or worse than the video production, because both are just that good. Loved the witty boule tieback and I didn't even skip over the advertisement. The process of you explaining your detail oriented cleaning, directly translated into the detail oriented work being shown. Hope you all pat yourselves on the back every once and a while. Subbed and belled! **Edit** Went through some of the comments after writing this. Glad to see so many people really appreciating both sides of this content!

But, in my opinion, the difference between their videos and yours is that you have somehow managed to map your thought process along the way in designing this piece and then merging that with interesting visuals that are relating to where you are in the project. Even the video description impresses, annotated with time-coded index and product links. In short, the video itself, is as much a work of art as the desk build it documents. Very happy to see that (as of this writing, on April 30, 2023) this video has 1.9 million views and overwhelmingly positive comments. Congratulations.

it looks good but it's totally impractical, the space to pass the legs under the desk is so cluttered, only kids can use it. this desk was designed by stupid designers who preferred shape over function. Please don't repeat this at home !

Beyond this being highly entertaining cause of your commentary, the thing that initially drew me to the video was the finished look of it: it's got this sleek 50s retro-futuristic vibe going on, and I absolutely adore that style. It's not so modern that we begin entering abstract art of different shades of sterile white, yet not so old fashioned that it's purely utilitarian or overly detailed. Very, very nicely done!

As some point people have to come to the realization that these guys stopped being a woodworking channel a longggg time ago… these guys create nothing less than art…. This is a Art Chanel… and what you guys produce is majestic. Cheers!

Gents, I think you both made great use of natures’ renewable resource. I also think Big John fully disclosed his opinion of the slab. You had a vision of the possibilities to make this slab better, twice in two different projects. Really great job, I think Sam Maloof would appreciate your designs.

Your integrity is as great as your builds. The fact that you don't HAVE to do some of the details you do, but you still do because it's the right time to do in your eyes, is amazing.

Looks amazing! Also, similar to everything else I’ve seen you create, the design is incredible! Recognizing that this may be a personal style thing, but did you consider using a darker wood for the base?

Thanks. We thought about a few things. My general take is. I either want wood to match really well… or have a ton of contrast. I personally hate when species start to kind of match but not quite match. It looks muddy. Like Cherry and Walnut together. Love both on their own. Don’t like them together.

I love the base. I’ve personally never been a fan of slab tables that minimize the legs/support in the interest of featuring just the slab. It should be appreciated as an entire piece. But that’s just my take

awesome job! It is great you pay so much attention to detail really... All the small steps you guys take. I went to school and studied carpentry but I hated construction. Watching the tools you use etc makes me remind how much I loved woodworking. I love how you don't use screws!! It is great and looks so neat. Wish that after my schooling I went to Japan to learn how to make furniture. Always so satisfying to watch =) Also great that you stand up for Big John and that you see a challenge where others see a crap piece of wood! First video that I see from you guys
