[Reupload because I managed to premiere the UNEDITED version of the video....sheeesh. Oh the shame. ]
This engine has languished after verdigris lump formed in valve casing, required removing but still wouldn't run. Better cleaning, Valve adjustment, got this near 20-year old girl running again. NEWS: two new engines coming: probably China's best looking model hit and miss engine and the best value, best made stirling engine I've seen from anywhere. Reviews when they arrive! Subscribe!!

Re-uploaded because DUMB I put the unedited version up...The shame! Where can I put my face... Anyway forgive me (I'm definitely not the first) HEY!!! Big news!! two new engines on the way and parts. So the engines are a surprise - you'll have to wait - the best looking Chinese hit and miss engine and what I think is the best value, best built Stirling engine too. And I can't wait to get my baby Harley engine going again...Hall sensors on the way, 3 because they have a terrible reputation for failing. We'll try antistatic care and sealing from spark shock. I can't wait - expect late May I think as shipping is slow now....poor Shanghai. Hope you guys at EngineDIY are OK!!! :)

Had to fix one for a customer, they had been playing with it and mucked the timing up. It was a job to get the screws to hold tight as they are very small and don't grip very well. Went like a rocket when it was timed right, great little engines.

Yeah totally my experience. I wonder what the other brands available in England around this price range are like; not having a pot boiler is a good start. Also the lack of a guide rod slider for the piston rod and brass cylinder gland means WEAR. Still, sweet isn't it :)

@@ThomasPCGuruENGINES great video Thomas ! I have a couple of Mercer’s myself. Really nice engines to build up from a kit & they run like a sewing machine if built & set up correctly. You mention the lack of a guide rod slider, but these can be bought as an optional upgrade from Minsteam.

I have both the Mercer and the Accucraft Allchin tractors. I will rate the Allchin tops any day!

Willie, welcome! Googling it now...the Allchin by Accucraft is a 1.5: scale or 3/4 inch scale? It looks like it is in a different league; and more than twice the price, but far better made. Runs on gas or spirit? And you'd recommend it? I am it I am tempted. A friend built a 4" Burrell after joining the local model engineer's club. That's a massive undertaking though. I feel it is time for me to look at buying steam models again, though; upscaled like this.

@@ThomasPCGuruENGINES the Maxitrak 3/4” Allchin, although it’s the same size as the Mercer is an entirely different engine. It comes ready with a factory installed gas tank & poker style burner with a flame tube boiler. The operating pressure is 60psi, whereas the Mercer is around 15 psi. A very powerful engine for its size, but that’s not to say the Mercer isn’t.

I think so too! It did all run with no flywheel wobble and very little noise and vibration. For a desktop model, it's way above Wilesco and sits in the gap before more semi-scale models of much higher price. Welcome to the channel Emil! You're most welcome:)

Right now Im building a Meccano Constructor Car with a Mamod steam engine. Im machining sprockets to fit Erector chain. 12-36 to 12-36 again gives 9 to 1 gear reduction. I cut sprockets on my Atlas shaper with a Southbend Indexing Center. Cool video and Thank You.

Yeah still manufactured its called the Mercer. Sold by Minsteam. Queue to purchase is so long they have given up taking orders!! I would suggest there are better options on youtube.

www.minsteam.co.uk/d-r-mercer BUT it looks like they're all "out of stock." are they made anymore? I'm not sure if they're good value anymore. And if you want the option of getting it built and painted, you can get a lovely engine but maybe it's just a little small, or you want an internal fire tube boiler...this is a cross between a toy and a model. It's nice but there are better models out there. However, don't get a used traction engine from ebay unless you can see the engineering quality and know it works. Keep in touch!
