The song "Opera-2" was written in 2003 by the Russian singer Vitas. He wrote this song when he was in a state of deep depression, so Vitas performed this song in such a way that it was clear to the listeners that the person was suffering. Dimash sang this song in a completely different way. Listening to Dimash, it is clear that this is a man reflecting on his life, left alone in an empty house, looking out the window in the early morning, where everything is covered with fog after a night thunderstorm. There is nothing sad about Dimash's performance. The most interesting thing began after Vitas heard this performance of the song! He was insulted to the core! Envy? Jealousy? It's hard to understand.

He came from Kazakhstan to support his son. However, Dimash knew nothing about it when he performed. I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 19 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. Indescribably beautyful and emotional. During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his style/habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰. The reason he did those stops in the third modulation is for the critics who said he was lip-syncing those opera parts. This is from the Chinese show I Am Singer 2017, a competition show for established singers and Dimash was invited as a wildcard (the first foreign singer). This was the 2nd weeks performance. However, my laughing triggered 3 different muscle cramps that hurt so bad, but I couldn't stop laughing. O.K. it's taken 20 minutes of long slow massaging those spots but the cramps have eased off. This is the "I Am Singer" contest in China in 2017, at which he came in 2nd (politics). It was this contest that brought Dimash to the rests of the world. The writer of this song sued (because Dimash sang it better than Vitas, the original singer), so Dimash can't sing this anymore. I have a huge smile on my face watching your reaction, because I know what's going to happen.

There is tv footage of when Dimash was younger, he appeared on a show where the compères wrote different funny words to the opera 2 song and asked Dimash to sing them on the spot. One of the lines is about a girl in high heels stepping on his Toes and what would he sing - aaaaaaaaaaaah aaaaaah. Dimash doubles up with laughter but he still sang the words.
