No Need to Pay more for synthetic, my LMM that i sold at 280k has had regular Rotella and sometimes cheap walmart oil Dynoes at 680-700hp depending on whos dyno its on. The truck now has 330k and still rums like new my friend bought it from me and he rods the piss out of it. He also pull his land scape equipment with it. Runs strong no need for synthetic.

Ok thanks for the info, new duramax (l5p) owner so just trying to make it last a long time. Amsoil was about the same price so might stick with that. Not dlted yet not sure how and what to get to do that.

We’re you doing normal oil change intervals with this? I’ve seen it before and it said the intervals was something crazy like 30k miles with the same oil or something. Sound about right?

You won’t have to pump to fill the filter up if you just fill the filter up with diesel before putting it back on. That way you won’t risk getting a lot of air in the system

Regardless of oil type I always change mine in 5,000 mile intervals for my duramax. Sure, oils can claim 10,000 miles of protection. So let’s just say the general lubricity of that oil is within reason at that mileage, it doesn’t take away from the amount of contaminants that build up in the oil over that time period. Or the thinning that takes place, and it’s developed inability to dissipate heat efficiently. Especially when considering an emissions equipped vehicle. To take full advantage of a diesels reliability, it’s best to always keep the engine topped with fresh clean oil no longer than 5000 mile intervals.

@Ethan Conard install an oil bypass filter and check it at 5,000 miles and probably 2,000- 2,500 after that.

The oil doesn’t flow through the injectors in a duramax like the heui 7.3 and 6.0 powerstroke. I don’t think that your oil will make a difference with injector noise. You can try a fuel additive. Maybe your fuel filter really needed to be changed. Also maybe it wasn’t the injectors ticking

On a Duramax the oil does not effect the injectors. If you want oil to change the sound of the injectors, but a Ford. Learn how Duramax injectors work... The oil doesn't touch them.
