14:31 "But, continue to be humane."

As a "cool kid sommelier", I completely agree that there is nothing wrong with how most of the entry-level Grande Marque Champagnes taste, but I have every problem with how expensive they are in the UK in relation to the quality you can get from Grower Champagne at the same price point. As shown here, the Andre Clouet comes in at a similar price point, and even cheaper than the Veuve, and is a Grand Cru wine rated as their #1 pick. For the style of Champagne that I prefer, I will always see greater value, style, and individuality in grower Champagne :)

Peter, you remind me of my dad who was a sommelier & sold fine wines in the N End in Boston. He always said that everyone has their own pallet. I really miss him & watching this made me feel he was watching you with me. 🍾🥂

Love the honesty of your tasting notes. Appears that champagne is meant to be more loose and fun to taste, not to be as critical necessarily. Jay you tha man!

I love champagne and have been trying different glasses to see what works well to show off the aroma and the bubbles. I recently picked up some Oneida flavor first, crisp & fresh glasses designed by Karen MacNeil, and I’ve been very pleased with its performance. I like the wide tulip to capture the aroma and the nice taper to show off the bubbles. Cheap too, at under $10 each!

Thank you for that. As usual, very informative. Nice overview and analysis of entry-level champagne. The Andre Clouet sounds interesting.

Love this video! It is a testament to the high standard of the region. Also kudos to you guys showing how much easier it makes things to start it all from entry level wines. Personally i've grown tired in the taste and drink more non-champagne area bubbly french wines.

I agree with you, Jay, on the Laurent-Perrier. The brioche/toastiness was too much for me. I preferred Louis Roederer's entry level. I had Veuve Clicquot demi-sec and found out that champagne is fantastic with egg fried rice.

Great tasting! I actually was able to guess which wines they were from your tasting notes! I knew that one was Clouet when you mentioned richness, oak, and toastiness. By the way, Clouet is a grower, so in a way the cool kids might be right after all :)

When I eat out I typically look at the wine list first, decide on the wine i want then look at the menu for food that compliments it. My favorite affordable bubbly pairing is Veuve Clicquot with KFC. Clicquot cuts through the fattiness of the chicken like a scalpel, whilst the brioche notes echo with the biscuits and gravy. My favorite combination of luxury and cheap. Thanks for another great video.

I followed your advice & ordered Kfc to eat with my Clicquot, delicious!! Thank you! Any other combos I should try?

I love Veuve Cliquot with some breaded shrimp. It goes in the classic seafood direction but is far cheaper than lobster or crab and similar to KFC it has that breading that goes well with a fresh Champagne.
@HunterPhenomMakoy3 жыл бұрын
For a recipe to celebration we had a bottle of veuve and a bottle of Moët. None of us had had them and we were all used to $15 “champagne”. EVERYONE immediately remarked that veuve was a massive leap over anything we had had before. None of the younger people preferred the Moët and some complained that it was too acidic.

I've allso recently discovered andre clouet and I'd would agree. Great quality/price ratio. To be fair, it is a blanc de noir from Bouzy, a grand cru especially known for its pinot noir and second only to Ambonnay, so not entirely comparable to the other first cuvee. I really enjoyed the video. Keep rocking!

Excellent presentation! I have had all seven of these wine's over the last couple of years, and they are all quite good for the price. When my Niece, her friend & I do a "Champagne Night" we drink two bottles along with a big variety of munchies to compare the wines with. We try to start with an entry level wine (much like one of these 7) followed by a more premium selection, often from the same Champagne House. It's been both educational and fun, I would recommend it as a fun way to drink some bubbly!

My guess is that flute glasses are used for sparkling wines mostly to slow down the escaping co2, so you can enjoy it for a longer period of time. Same reason why sparkling water manufacturers shrink the top of their bottles. The more surface area, the easier it is for the gas to escape.

Great video and would agree on the Moët, I refuse to pay the money for it, I dislike it so much. Of the selection, I only haven't tried the winner but will definitely keep an eye out, but as a personal preference between the rest, I can't see past Mumm or Perrier Jouet. I think the Perrier Jouet attraction is because it reminds me of being on holiday the first time I tried it. Great video!!

I'm glad that you both enjoyed Andre Clouet. He's such an underrated producer who I was only recently introduced to. The bottle you drank is 100% pinot from Bouzy, which is a famous Grand Cru village in Champagne, and for only $40-50! What a steal. I would much rather drink Clouet over Veuve or Pol Rogers. I'm glad that Clouet is getting more attention, but I'm worried it'll drive up his prices haha!
