Best exhaust for the FL5 Type R!

As some of you may know, I had the Remus Exhaust on my FK8. If you know what that exhaust sounds like I would say the Milltek Exhaust sounds a touch deeper in tone. Overall great exhaust, well thought out design.

Did you get a reading on DB for WOT or certain rpm on the milltek?

Yeah that missed the edit somehow but it was 111 db WOT with the Milltek. Keep in mind that’s pretty close to where the mic was.

WOW, great video and great exhaust! Definitely the best on I've seen for FL5. And I didn't know they were slanted tips until you mentioned at the end of the video. It definitely flows with the OEM Type-R bumper.

The slanted tips really made it for me one I realized the rear diffuser was also slanted

Absolutely like the sound!! I have enjoyed the channel for a couple years now and always love when you post new vids! My favorite video of June was the one where you did the Hondata and said you lied that you were going to keep it stock!! Lol I am glad you are not keeping it stock! @GridZilla haha but I've got a stock downpipe and will be keeping it stock so just want a cat back. You have a downpipe which will make the exhausts louder right? Do you think the resonated would be too quiet in my case? Thanks

IMmA kEep iT sTock. About time, lol. Surprised that you didn’t go Remus, as well as do the down pipe while you were at it. I had the Js racing on my FK8 with a catless DP and I was getting decibel readings in the hundreds (in cab). It was so bad that I started to get headaches. I had to wear ear plugs and muffs while driving, lol. Apexi-N1 with a catless DP ended up being the perfect combo.

@@Dailyshart much bigger plans than the Ohlins BUT I still highly recommend the Ohlins for 90% of owners. JRZ for maybe 8% who need more track oriented suspension and less than 2% for what I’ve got coming. It’s not for the faint of heart lol

I originally had Milltek and it does sound amazing! BUT the quality wasn’t all that great at least mine. I switched to AWE and I’m loving it! the quality is better and the black chrome tips 😮‍💨

@@GridZilla Id say pretty close in sound and I have the touring edition but quality and the tips are amazing. Also sounds a little cleaner imho. But AWE is not valved. No drone at all like the Milltek but no squeaks from valve opening and closing haha

Sounds good! Really like how Milltek’s exhaust tips are angled and flush with the diffuser, I would definitely get black tips to make it even more minimalistic. I’m waiting till AWE comes out with their line of products, their recent exhaust video for the FL5 sounds exactly the same as Milltek (Possibly teased their non resonated Track edition). Also want to see how their 180 technology on their Touring edition performs and sounds like before I decide on between the two brands.

@@robertomagallanes7439 Hey man! initially I used the AWE Touring, but felt that it was a little bit quiet for a Type R. If I’m upgrading an exhaust, I want it to make a difference in presence. So I ended up buying the Track conversion and haven’t went back since. Drone is obviously there at around 3-4k if you push the throttle open, but overall it’s not that bad to me, especially for cruising at highway speeds, I have a high tolerance for it. I’ll most likely use the touring for long trips, super easy to switch out too.

Great video and review! I really like the way the Milltek sounds and I think of all the systems out there it looks the best, which is very important IMHO. After 7 months of ownership, would you still recommend this over anything else out there?

Absolutely! Overall I think it’s still the best pick. There are others I considered (like the Apexi) but not fond of the two tip design.

I’d say if you want the valved exhaust then there isn’t a better overall choice available. I’d buy it again. It’s worth it. Check out TwoStepPerformance (link in description) they usually have pretty good pricing. Cheers!

You live in CA so how was it when you change it to miltek? Any worries when you get your smog check? I live in SoCal not sure if i can modify my CTR thinking of whwn i amog it if i modify my car maybe it wont pass smog coz need to be carb legal? Anyway nice vid

Smog isn’t required on new vehicles for the first 5 years so won’t really be an issue for a bit

Never had Remus on this car and as far as I know they don’t make an exhaust for the FL5 yet

There’s definitely some better sounding 4 bangers out there. I think the best sounding ones were the NA B16’s and B18C5

Same here. Had an FK8R and thought the exhaust sound was the weakest point of it, both stock and aftermarket.

@GridZilla they're smaller company in California with not the best reputation unfortunately least in s2k crowd. But ive heard it in person sounds awesome and have there s2000 exhaust it's the best imo. FL5 coming out soon got my pre order in we'll see no drone

would never buy milltek again. welds are trash. water gets into the muffler section..

@@GridZilla Bought the non resonated milltek exhaust for my FK8.. only had it on for 7 months (was too loud for my liking) Bought the Apexi N1. When taking off the Milltek massive water was stuck in the muffler. You could also see where leaks were coming out from the welds.

I'll add my two cents on the Supra oval exhaust. So the the stock diameter is 70mm but it's ovaled and it still flows as much as if it was circular piping

I can see that they did that probably for aerodynamic reasons to make the pipe flat’ish with the bottom of the car but still. At stock power levels or even moderate power levels it’s fine.

@GridZilla yeah Toyota did that for underbody aero. Surprisingly the stock exhaust can hold up around 600whp before it bottle necks.
