Loving my 73sv this my first year with it and man at first I was struggling identifying fishing with structure but now I'm getting and my fish catching has gone up now that fall is starting.

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzfaq.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

i got the garmin striker vivid 7 sv and use it on my 1520 key west center console. Great unit super easy to use like from the first day on. It is not a touch screen,but that's fine with me.the picture on it on down image is super clear and it has side image as well.Got it less than 500 bucks. i highly recommend this fish finder,you will like it a lot

Garmin UHD 73SV is great fish finder for your money. You get 2D down imagining, side-scan, Lake map and the ability to added livescope to it later on. Plus it’s in $500 range.

Good info Davis! I've owned all 3 brands and I personally would not buy Lowrance unless youre real familiar with their operating system. Garmin is my 1st pick it's very user friendly, 2nd Humminbird and 3rd Lowrance

Amusing, might be building a Yak for ocean fishing...I would put chart plotter as HIGH priority and side-scan at nearly the bottom. lol Gave me some good basic information, though. So thank you!

If you are fishing river banks or from piers the little systems, $90 to $200 are great. You will know if fish are present, how deep to fish and have an idea about the bottom (grass, sand) looks like. Some transducers can be cast. This helps to know how far out they are. So there is a usefulness.

I'm outfitting a 14 foot aluminum V-bottom. Small outboard (no 12 volt battery charging options) and a 6 year old deep cycle battery. I'll be fishing one freshwater lake I know well, so mapping not needed. I'll be fishing bridges, brush piles and sunken timber. My targets will be catfish, crappie, sand bass and hybrids. Price doesn't matter, I can afford the best. I just need a new unit simple enough for an old man to use, without any features I'll never use or figure out. This will be my cheap retirement fishing package that will only be used occasionally on nice days to restock the freezer. A suggestion from you or your viewers would be super helpful! Thanks.

I would suggest the Garmin echomap 93sv with Gt56 transducer. The is a high definition transducer that will give you a clear picture with side imaging to show whatever fish you're targeting. It is also capable of connecting to Livescope if that is something you may be interested in later

I. Have a Striker 7sv and a echomap 73sv and the 73sv BLOWS THE STRIKER AWAY. Shop bass pro shop sales and pay the difference. I paid 420 for the striker 7sv then another 20 for the cover. I paid 480 for the echomap 73sv with the cover. Watch for sales.

What is the best permanent mount lake cruising that would give a highly detailed look at the bottom and everything for less than 2K?

For that price range, basically any manufacturer would work. Your looking for a 10 inch screen with Full HD (1920x1080 pixels) and a transducer that is capable mghz frequency (mega imaging) for sidevu, downvu, and 2d sonar. Garmin echomap 106sv, humminbird helix 10, Lowrance hds 12.

how does the gt56 compare to the hummingbird mega? I use sidescan 100% of the time and want to get the garmin 106sv with gt56 transducer but I wonder if I should go to something comparable for hummibird since a lot of people say they have the best sidescan what's your opinion on that?

Thank you for this video. I am currently looking for another unit. I had a DRAGONFLY, but something damaged the power cord and it doesn’t work. I cannot find a replacement since it is obsolete. I have a 16’ Bass Tracker, but I don’t like the transducer being mounted to the rear when I fish from the front and the display is mounted by the windshield….by the time I see something on the display I’m way past it. What do you recommend so I can see while I’m driving and fishing?

You might be able to get two transducers linked to the same unit. One transducer at the back and the other at the front(trolling motor). If you have your screen on a Ram mount, you can turn your screen to face front or back depending on where you're fishing.

Hey Flopping Crappie. Just wanted your opinion of the best side image sonar to actually see high resolution on the bottom of a lake. I want to find an old snow mobile on the bottom of lake from winters years ago. I will be on a kayak. Any recommendations?

You would want to get the highest screen quality possible. Look in the specs of the sonar unit for Full HD (1920x 1080) or 1920x1200. I have a garmin gpsmap 8610xsv which is 1920x1200 pixels. Super crisp image, but it is expensive.

The only difference is the built in mapping system. Humminbird uses its own basemap system (lakemaster) and Lowrance uses either navionics or C-map depending on the model. Both units are exactly the same when it comes to sonar (2d, DI, SI)

For the most part, yes. Some fish finders will come with a slightly better transducer. However, most screens in this size class have the same amount of pixels, which generates roughly the same image.

howdy been binging on some of your videos about fish finders. im lookin for my fist for my kayak. was wanting the hummingbird but seen some videos that it can be a little intimidating if you are not familir with fish finders. so was peeping the triple shot hook revel 7, and heard that its much more user friendly out of the box. just was currious on your thoughts. looks like the pricing has came down some since your video the TS hook is like sub 500 with a maps +contour? i appreciate your time very much

What about using Side View for 11 acre pond? Do you think it is worth the other 2-300$?

Of you only fish the 11 acre pond, then down imaging might be enough. If you use the boat and any other lakes or rivers, you will want side imaging

I mostly fish for catfish and white bass. How important is side imaging and what is it doing? Scanning left and right of the boat i assume, so that would be good for shallow water correct?

I use it for finding structure, not actual fish. If you can find structure, you will likely find the fish.

I would recommend any unit that has built in lake counters. As far I know, the humminbird helix 5 is the only unit in this class that comes with mapping. The lowrance hook is compable if adding mapping for extra $.

It does not view anything in front of the kayak. The sidevu screen only shows what is to the left , right, and below the boat. In order to view something in front of the kayak you would need a forward facing sonar like the Garmin Livescope

I have a sun dolphin 12 and am thinking of getting a lourance 9 triple shot as an upgrade not knowing much about them its for lake's and pike fishing is this a good option??

It looks like the lowrance hook 9 is priced around $600. I would recommend spending $50-$100 more and get the Garmin Echomap 73sv. The image on the 73sv will be better because it uses a Mega imaging transducer. Although the Garmin is only a 7 inch screen vs. the lowrance 9 inch. If you're planning to spend $600+ , I'd go with the Garmin echomap 73sv
