I've been cutting hair for 15 years and this is the cut I struggle with the most. The flat top has been going out of style even though its one of the neatest cuts a guy can have. I'm so impressed by this cut, Jason you did yourself proud my man. Watching this video has given me more confidence for the next time I do a flat top. Might be a while though 😆

Ive been cutting flattops for 37 years. I freehand and it sure does work! I dont relay on a comb that mashes the hair down. The main rule to a good flattop is, the hair has to be up and stay up or you cant cut it correctly. I use a spritz of water and then hairspray (so the spray doesnt dry too fast) and a blowdryer because you can guide that hair all up as the spray dries. To gel it and push it up with your fingers just doesnt get the hair up uniformly. I start my guide at the very front where the peak is and then I freehand it straight back for the guide that dictates the rest of the top. I do use my comb for that first cut but rarely after because it knocks the hair down as I said. I wish I could send you some pics of my work. My flattops are beautiful and very precision. I went into a great flattop shop right after barber school and I learned from the best. Im 61

This was so goood!!!! I'm a hairstylist at a salon..I had a gentlemen come.in for a 2 side inch top today...and I wish I had seen this video before. He was a walk in and I have never done this haircut before because I do womens hair 99% of the time. I was so disappointed in my haircut. But this inspires me to do this cut again! Great video!!

Flattop is a haircut that s making a big comeback. Especially the high n tight variety. Im doing more in my shop every week. Most of them return weekly.

This was one of the best flattop tutorials I've seen! My husband always tries to get me to cut his hair like this (I'm NOT a hairstylist!). The sides and back confused me as to how to get them to look blended in with the top. Since you showed how to do this step by step and EXPLAINED things while doing them now it makes much more sense to me as to how to cut his hair. The apex part was key to making it all click for me. Very nice work, Jason! Well done. Have you ever tried the Andis TS-1 shaver? That's what I use to keep my sides and back smooth and bald. A H&T flattop has got to be one of the best haircuts. More guys should sport one. If I ever get to TX, will have to stop in.

Great job! They say the difference between a good cut and a bad one is about 2 weeks. The difference between a good flat top and a bad one is is a MONTH. Lot's of barbers will say they can cut one but it's a lost art.

This guy seems really nice and all but I gotta be honest. If I did that in my shop not only would I be hard pressed to get money for it from my customers, I would be embarrassed. That cut needed alot more work and it wasn't even level. Some barbers can't cut a flattop. Some can. But then some are legends. They call them FLATTOP KINGS. Find one and learn from him.

Good quality end result. My question is how long does it take to do this flat top? How much do you make for your time. I aim at $1 /minute . My customers would not want to be in the chair for 45 min and would still pay me the same if I did the work in 15 minutes. One should avoid being a "starving artist" charge what your worth. " Time is money" do not give it away.
