It may look intimidating but a lot of haka actually tell a story. For instance, I had the pleasure of witnessing a haka by the first team in red (Kahuku Red Raiders from the island of O’ahu in Hawaii State). The haka they did for us (while intimidating) was done out of respect, and symbolized the great opportunity for our teams to do battle on the field. P.S. Before you ask: yes, we got smashed 😂 but it was a good and fun experience nonetheless.

Many of them are Kiwis, Maori, Samoan, & Hawaiians... especially in Utah you will find that the Haka is as large as it is in NZ. It’s why BYU rugby team is the best their coach is Maori and even wrote a Haka based on a story in the Book of Mormon. You do realize that the second largest culture of the Mormon church. They’re not stupid Americans pretending they are no different from you! But that’s ok Americans especially us mormons appreciate, honor, & love our Polynesian brothers and sisters even if they think they’re better than us... No I’m not Polynesian but to me they’re my family and I have always had a deep respect for the Maori they remind me of my Scottish/Viking ancestors. But ok you win because you’re from NZ.

@@jimpaea5473 the Maori people remind me of my proto-Germanic/Viking & Scottish ancestors. Although we didn’t have the Haka there were war chants and dances done and used just like the Haka. But I am partial to the Haka because I’m a major All Blacks fan since the days of Mormon player Jonah Lomu.. I watched his funeral and balled like a baby. Every time I hear the Haka it brings the same emotions that bag pipes & drums bring me, the same joy and thrill. I was honored by several missionaries from my church who did a Haka in my honor as they were returning home to both Australia and Samoa (he lives in Utah though for college) and one Jewish/Mormon missionary who wa the only white missionary to do the Haka with the other two because he didn’t think it was too hard the others did. But I’ll tell you I almost ugly cried when they took me out in front of my house and started a Haka, they chose the Ka’mate because they couldn’t decide between a Maori Haka, Samoan chant, or kiwi so they felt safe with the Ka’mate and it’s probably the easiest one to teach someone not of your culture.

@@jtalbot34 that video link you mentioned was awesome. Definitely emotional. And wow your link to the ancient world is a very true fact. Each culture had an expression of how to portray feelings or idea like a war dance to provoke or a chant to comfort. These are the things that make the world amazing. Different cultures and different perspectives make a better world. I have a few cousins who are from the Takapuna ward in the North Shore ward of Auckland and have been there myself and it's awesome meeting people there

You can see my love for your people (ok all Polynesians lol) and my Scottish redhead defensive attitude of a culture I care about almost as much as my own came out. I love all of my Polynesian missionaries that I have been honored to serve .. I do free haircuts and color for all Mormon missionaries on Mondays you probably know Monday is the only day of the week they get a somewhat “day off”. That’s why when those missionaries did a Haka for me I ugly cried.. If your interested in that video it’s on my channel..
