Steam Next Fest 2022 is officially underway! Hundreds of indie game demos are flooding steam representing just about every genre you can think of and you best believe there is a glut of FPS games to try out. I have spent this last week playing every demo of upcoming fps games I could get my hands on and am presenting my favorites in this video. Whether you like retro fps games or something more modern this video will have the Steam Next Fest demos you can't miss.

I like how you use an AK in space. I mean trying to use an AK in space isn't ideal, but it's still cool.

I am extremely excited for boundary. It's actually not inspired by COD. It's inspired by another space shooter called Shattered Horizon. I LOVED shattered horizon. Boundary looks like they took that concept and expanded upon it. Also, Siris is a good friend of mine, can definitely vouge for adaca. I hope people don't write it off for its aesthetic.

I’ve been seeing some mention of Shattered Horizon and I’m curious how they compare. Either way I liked Boundary a lot more than I thought, I have a good feeling about that one. Yeah ADACA needs more attention. I dipped into Siris’s discord the other day and said hi. Good dude.

@@KIRKCOLLECTS I have some ooold footage of shattered horizon but it's more or less the same. I thought it's implementation of a 3d motion tracker was interesting.

One title not on the next fest, but released in the period is Incision. A cool little Quake 2 style game, absolutely coated in rust, blood and excrement. Its still very early in development but quite fun.

I tried ADACA after seeing it on this video, and thanks for showing it, I liked it. Its definitely very HL2-inspired but it also seems pretty heavily Halo - inspired: 2 weap limit, different grenade types, dedicated melee/grenade buttons, recharging health (sort of). And the weapons themselves I think are very Halo-like; they definitely form a kind of "sandbox" not the "toolkit" of Half-Life and earlier shooters. There are some fun weapon designs, a sort of needler spin off, guns with overheat instead of reload, its nice and varied.

11:56 gotta love how the character rams the shotgun into his shoulder violently/ aggressively to pump it. makes it feel and look really good

Looking forward to Turbo Overkill, Splatter, and ADACA. Warstride seems promising too but I hate time limits and the Doom 2016 rune challenges so I rather watch you play with lol

I may check Adaca, seen it on steam, but I don't think they showed much gameplay. I suggest Zombaliens, but it's because it's my game. It was previewed in E1M1 #4 if I remember right

Really looking forward to Adaca and Turbo Overkill. I really like the low poly style of Adaca, I don't know why don't more retro-shooters use it instead of going for the pixel art style, in my opinion, the pixel art looks good on old games but rarely looks good on new games trying to emulate the same look (with some exceptions, of course), anyway, my point is, I'd like to see more FPS games in that low poly style.

The only one I played in this video was Turbo Overkill. Neat, but I definitely wanna check out ADACA. I miss FPS games inspired by Half Life. Most indie FPS games tend to be Doom/Quake throwbacks like Scathe or Supplice. Didn't care for either. Was hoping to see demos for Trepang2, Compound Fracture, Brutal Fate, Project Ferocious, and SPRAWL. But, nope. Beyond Sunset is a fun Doom total conversion you can try a demo of on Steam too. Also recommend checking out the, Siren, Doom 2 Total conversion mod as well.

ADACA was a nice surprise, definitely one for the Half-Life fans. I was hoping to see those games too, Trepang2 especially because I feel like those guys are getting close to putting something out. Hopefully the next, next fest we'll see them.

@KIRK COLLECTS, We rarely get FPS games inspired by Half Life/Halo CE/Early 2000 games. I like some Doom/Quake inspired games, but I don't think every game should be like them. The Trepang2 devs have been pretty active lately. So we might see a release sometime this year. Some of the other games I listed though, pretty quiet... Have you played SCP Pandemic on Steam? It hit Early Access this past Tuesday.

Did you try INCISION? It's not part of the fest but there is a demo available on its Steam page nonetheless.

I like turbo overkill and warstride / warcry / whatever it's called. I'll definately buy those two. I thought scathe looked cool but I didn't like the movement. I played incision and its cool but idk if I'm really into it rn at least.

I gotta be honest, I personally see pretty much no relation at all between ADACA and Half-Life 2, not from a game feel or game design point.
