Very happy to see Entangled in the top ten! I’ve always loved that song! I think it’s their most beautiful song by far! The harmonies, the acoustic guitars, and the haunting melotron outro… It’s all so gorgeous!

Think your explanation of 'The Lamb' makes sense. Many of the songs merge into the next so are difficult to single out or like. Agree about 'Anyway' being wonderful (and 'it'). However, despite not being the fans favorite, 'The Lamb' is one of the best albums of the 20th century.

Biggest surprise as that Abacab was so low. I love that Genesis Pivot to an edgier sound.

I am a little ashamed that my votes were not mentioned. I am sorry to al genesis fans, but "We Can't Dance " ia my favorite genesis-album. And my favorite songs are "Fading Lights " and "Never a Time ". I know that is no proof for my good taste, but what should I do. I truely love these tunes.

The first time I heard Genesis was The Lamb when I was a camp counselor in the summer of 1975. I immediately fell in love with the band. The first of the 8 times I was lucky enough to see them live was in Kalamazoo, MI in February of 1977. I like all the Genesis albums, but my two favorite Genesis albums are Trick of the Tail, and Wind and Wuthering.

Great survey, thanks for making it and presenting us the results. :D Biggest surprise: We Can't Dance ranked so low was definitely a huge shocker for me, since I love this record and many of my favorite songs are from that album. Same for Invisible Touch, but that's one I would rank lower than WCD. Kinda surprised W&W made the top 5, since I thought many people underrate this record, which is easily one of my favorites. The list of our least favorite songs was a shocker to me as well, since there are at least two songs from which I think they don't belong there at all: Follow You, Follow Me and Invisible Touch.

Entangled would be in my top 10. Rick Beato's favourite Genesis song is Ripples. Top 10 for me probably. Mad Man Moon is probably the best Trick song for me.

Interesting - would've loved to have found your survey. I'm a long time Genesis fan thanks to my oldest sister's one-time boyfriend. That's how a 13 year old kid got "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" for Christmas. I do prefer Peter Gabriel era Genesis, but I do like a few albums with Phil Collins on vocals. I also don't mind the pop songs - I just don't like a Phil Collins solo sounding song on a Genesis album. It seems like a number of the voters are fans of the big selling years. My order (albums): 1. Follow You Follow Me wouldn't necessarily make my top ten but it is genius, can't understand why it's so disliked. Duke and Selling England would be my top two albums. I agree about Trespass which is beautiful. No honourable mention for Down and Out which I love.

Very Interesting results - all great songs. I would have Fading Lights instead of Afterglow - just love the keyboard section (I do love Afterglow - those two songs are right next to each other in my 5star Genesis playlist). Shame nothing from the Lamb made top 10 - side 3+4 have such brilliant tracks - Lamia, Rapids, Supernatural Anaesthetist but I can understand that they really need to be listened to as a complete album. If side 3+4 of the Lamb were their own album, it would be my No1 Genesis album. For me, hands-down the best lyrics in any Genesis song is Broadway Melody - it just paints such a vivid image in my mind - the song that got me into Genesis. I also love the 2 Home by the Sea tracks and they were in my top 10 - sad to see they didn't make the cut. I was surprised how many Genesis songs are pretty average - never thought about it before. That was the thing I was made aware of by this poll. Thanks.

Duke/Face Value/ABACAB/Three Sides Live (original with studio tracks side) is the sweet spot for me. Love the catalogue, but it's probably this/my entry point era that is most influential to me. ABACAB is one of their most bravest albums. Scaled back/streamlined even further than Duke, at first even I was wondering (at the time) what they were up to. But It probably fights back and forth as my fave Genesis album with Duke. Bonkers and rocking songs like the title track and DoDo/Lurker, horns on No Reply At All, fantastical story song with a great riff, Keep It Dark. The often maligned/misunderstood cacophonous palate cleanser, Whodunnit that chugs/winds down to their own 'Fool On The Hill', -Man On The Corner - which took me aback with it's quiet pulse driven opening. Abacab is their throwing caution to the wind 'pop art' album - I think it makes an incredible statement. Could they have easily left Whodunnit off Abacab for another track? Defininitely - but the juxtaposition leading into Man On The Corner would have been far less impactful. Just as they could have easily left the Brazillian off Invisible Touch for another vocal track which MIGHT have been another hit; but they made the right decision in my opinion in both cases. When one sits back and really has a listen to the instrumentation, execution and production on ABACAB, it is second to none. Love that bold, streamlined album. It's more of a total album listen than a singleing out tracks one.

On the albums, I think Calling All Stations and Trespass got low scores because they have not been listened to! Plus, they have reputations. So if ranking they sink to the bottom.

Yeah. The top 4 make sense to me. Especially the 1 and 2 and the 3 and 4 almost tie.

Biggest surprise was Foxtrot at No.6. Difficult to believe really, with a bunch of superb songs on the album, possibly the band's most cohesive, creative effort. What stood out? - And Then There Were Three at 7 and Nursery Cryme at 8. There must be some misunderstanding, must be some kind of mistake...

The results were interesting…the Peter era and the Phil era are both equally great in my books…but wow I was shocked throughout the video

Top 3 favourite songs, no argument. Blood on the Rooftops is very underrated. Carpet Crawlers in my too 5. Top album by far is Selling England by the Pound, followed by Foxtrot and for me, Trespass takes third, Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering tied for 4th followed by Nursery Cryme and the Lamb Lies Down, Invisible Touch & Duke are equally good as my next two.

On the album, A Trick of the Tail was a return to form after the hiatus of The Lamb. I see number 1 and 2 of your list linked in way.

FGTR was very good for what it was. People don't dig it because it wasn't prog (yet).

Top 3 best albums by genesis: a trick of the tail, selling england by the pound and invisible touch. Top 5 best songs by genesis: ripples, entangled, mad man moon, firth of fifth and domino.

I can agree to the rankings of the albums but strongly disagree with Calling All Stations being ranked 4.75. I absolutely loved CAS and in all honesty would rank it at least a 8.1 taking into account a couple weaker songs. I would rate probably their debut album a 6.6 only because it would be the harbinger of great years to come. And yes, Trick of The Tail May as wel be their best album overall at 9.84 IMO considering it marked the transition away from Peter Gabriel’s style and towards Phil Collins but maintaining some of the psychedelic mood of its predecessors. Same goes wirh Wind and Wuthering ranked a 9.28 IMO. Even Invisivle Touch and Genesis 1983 get a 8.8 and 8.64 respectively. And We Can’t Dance gets a good 8.97 as a worthy swan song to the Phil Collins era.

I think I would have put Calling All Stations at number 9.

Crazy that 3 of the top 4 albums ranked here are the same as mine! Difference is Selling England's lower and Abacab's my #1! Grossly underrated, and so are Invisible Touch and Trespass (my #5 and #7 respectively, Wind & Wuthering's in between them lol)

Great listening to other peoples opinions of my favourite band over the past 45 years or so 😊 Agree with what you're saying about Duke - the start and end are brilliant - but the middle! (cul-de-sac, please don't ask etc). Nowhere near the top of my list, I hated it when it first came out, but I've mellowed. My favourite track is Blood on the Rooftops, Phils best vocal by far IMO. What about Tonight x 3 - worth it for the drum outro alone.

So Basically “Misunderstanding” and “Anything she does” are technically the best songs. 4:44

My biggest surprises: "Trespass" was so low; "Me and Virgil" didn't make the worst songs list; while I didn't think "Follow You Follow Me" was a contender for best songs, I'm surprised it made the worst songs list; that "Afterglow" made the top songs and "One for the Vine" didn't. Also surprised that "More Fool Me", "Ballad of Big", "Say It's Alright Joe", and "Small Talk" weren't worst song contenders.

You Might Recall is a very good song

Seems like not just the "fun" songs, but the ballads as well were in the bottom 10. I always thought Since I Lost You should get a pass, though, given the nature of it. (It was written in response to Eric Clapton's son dying, as was Tears in Heaven) Ripples and Afterglow definitely do not fit into the ballad mold, as Misunderstanding, Follow You, Your Own Special Way, Hold on My Heart.. Trespass surprises me.. like you, I really enjoyed that. Very happy to see Trick at the top.. definitely at the top of my list, too. And I agree with your assessment.. that 76-80 segment is what I go back and listen to the most. (For reference, I'm a 40-something who came in as a fan during the Mama/IT era, then started exploring the back catalog around when Dance released) I'm a little surprised there was no mention of The Knife at all. Maybe Trespass gets less love because it's pre-Phil? Calling All Stations.. certainly not their best work, but I feel like it gets constantly underrated. Ray did a good job with the vocals.. but it's almost a post-Genesis album with Phil gone at that point. One Man's Fool took on a different meaning for me after 9/11, especially the first half.

Actually - i always said and believed, that "A trick of the tail" is the best Genesis Album. And i am 63 years old, a very early Genesis fan. "Selling England" on 2 is ok. But i also would put "Winds and Wuthering" higher and also "Then there were three". But "A trick of the tail" is the masterpiece. All tracks are beautiful.

I really don’t understand why people don’t love an Album like We Can’t Dance..For me, it’s a Great Album..I mean: Driving The Last Spike-Dreaming While You Sleep & Fading Lights are 3 of the best songs of the 1990s..I don’t understand either why Tonight Tonight Tonight isn’t here among their best tracks..Plus there’s no bad Genesis Album at all..And the only song they made that I’d consider bad maybe, but not that good, let’s say, is Who Dunnit? so…Supper’s Ready? Well, it’s fantastic but I prefer Squonk honestly or Wot Gorilla? or Abacab or That’s All or Inside & Out or It’s Gonna Get Better..Really my favorite Albums of Pete’s era are the two last ones: 73’s Selling England & 74’s The Lamb, two masterpieces in a row…One of the Best Bands Ever!! And my Favorite one indeed! My list’s so different than the other people’s…

Abacab and the self titled are two of my favorites... but not surprised they came in toward the bottom.... what surprised me the most was Foxtrot not even being top 5....I always thought that was their prog Masterpiece!

I've always liked more fool me by genesis, knowing full well that i'd be the first one to go down, it strikes a nerve, rather emotional, people probably over look it because it comes after firth of fifth, it's not as good as firth of fifth but a good melodic number with Gabriel and collins singing the harmonies. I cannot believe it's true is a song from phils solo career that i like.

The worst list looks like "pop bad!!!!!" with the exception of the weird placement of battle of epping forest

Tony Banks will be very happy with the #1 vote getter...proof that he is the best writer in the history of Genesis.

You forget One for the vine , the best song from Wind and Wuthering ... Afterglow is a very good but it not deserves the top ten. One of the best songs from Genesis in all this carreer is "The fountain of Salmacis " a superb masterpiece.

Duke that high?? Never loved the overall sound atmosphere. I'm a keyboarder and adore Banks' harmonies und most solos (rhythmically he's e bit boring - see he's solo records) but here are way too much keyboards sounds which don't differ from each other enough and make this LP a synth sauce and the Cp-80 doesn't make a real counterpoint, it also gets sauce. Acoustic Piano, Organ, Mellotron and ARP are so different. Wonderful synths on Wind and Wuthering but no mystery in this record and still not "poppy" enough to give some lightfootedness. I would put duke around no. 10. Missunderstanding is awful and Turn It On Again is a great song but it can't be heard too often. There is no song on this record, which I love entirely. I'm really completely surprised this got up to No 3? Is this an april joke, maybe?

Glad TOTT was top, it was always my fave, always thought SEBTP was too inconsistant to be the best but I am always shocked why it is rated so high.

I like most of the songs in the worst 10, but I agree with Who Dunnit... I love Invisible Touch, Anything She Does, Jesus He Knows Me, Illegal Alien, Follow You, and I Can't Dance lol

The albums doesn't surprise me that much to be honest, it does closely match my assessment (but Lamb over Duke any day). For me the shocks are in the Worst Songs list!

Not ashamed to say that We Can’t Dance is a favourite Genesis album of mine. The fact that And Then There Were Three ranked so high is absurd, even the band agrees it’s a poor effort.
