Hey hey AR Media! Thank you so much for checking out the video and commenting! I really appreciate the kind words, I don't know if my channel will get to "blow up" levels haha, but if it does I will use that status to bring even more valuable information to filmmakers and aspiring filmmakers alike! I love the GH5, I loved the GH4 too but man...this GH5 is just so darn versatile and I love the things I'm able to capture with it from KZfaq Videos to my feature film works. I'm hearing that the latest firmware update has changed the color science to match the better color science of the GH5s. I wont be updating to that until I finish the last day of production this weekend, but if its true I'll be a happy camper. Thanks again for watching my videos! What kind of videos do you enjoy filming with your GH5?

Based on your video, I went searching for this battery setup in a slightly different form. I got a dummy battery that could take 2 USB power inputs and went with the Anker 26000mah battery which has 2x3A capable ports. This allowed me to shoot photos too. The main issue with photos, I think, is the mechanical shutter. If you disable the mechanical shutter and use the ESHTR, it should work even with the setup in this video. The MSHTR needs more power and will work using the setup I described. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I didn't even think about this until I saw your video.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 2 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Art of Server! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I talk about the Mechanical Shutter in Part 2 and Part 3. Part 3 covers your version of the dual USB dummy battery type. That version does allow Mechanical Shutter use because it is able to keep up the Amperage needs that the Single USB type could not. This allowed people to do longer exposure timelapses that the single USB with ESHTR could not do past 1sec (I think) So you are (should be) good to use mechanical shutter with your dual USB type dummy battery. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

TLDR Filmmaker I’ve only just started really, just bought some gear earlier this year. I’ve just put one on my channel recently - blossom fall - want to do more stuff like that - arty / cinematic. But with some kind of storyline - need to figure that out!
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 6 жыл бұрын
Just checked out your "Blossom Fall" video, very nice shot composition, especially the smart choice of using a low angle closeup to symbolize the blossom pedals falling from above. If this is you just starting out, I can tell you already have a creative eye and you see things visually and have an instinct of what "feels" right and what doesn't. As you continue to test your ideas and visual feelings, you will begin to create even faster, and train in other elements to further convey your visual information. The only suggestion I have is that the music, while awesome, may not fit the motif of the video. Its a bit aggressive for something so beautiful and innocent. Perhaps a light violin and piano selection would draw the viewer into the moment, or a light "adventure" feel and you could get a couple of additional shots of the little girl wandering around, she spots the blossom tree, she sees a single pedal fall near her, she runs to the tree and magically the pedals all shower her. Seriously, keep it up! My suggestions are only to give you ideas of where my mind, as a director, went when I saw the images and what it said to me. I really do believe you have an eye for this. Again, for someone starting out you already have visual ideas that are inherently cinematic and conveys visual information. Keep it up and keep sharing your work! Until next time!
@GarethDown
@GarethDown 6 жыл бұрын
Hi - thanks so much for taking the time to watch and give advice! Yeah I agree about the music, I'll try to experiment with that. And I love the idea of having a storyline, if there are any petals still left I'll try to do some pickup shots! Again, thanks so much - really means a lot you took the time to watch and help out. And keep up your good work too!
@TLDR_filmmaker

You are most welcome! Keep it up and keep creating and find your voice in storytelling through visuals. My favorite challenge/exercise is to tell a story with no words, once you learn ways to tell stories this way, filmmaking becomes very interesting because you save time and your characters only speak when they really have to. I believe that the human mind gets more deep internal information through visual cues than sound cues, so thats why I spend more time learning how to say something without saying it. Something to think about because, again, you seem to already instinctively understand why a shot is shot a certain way! Look forward to seeing more of your work as you grow!

Goooooood video! interesting shit! I also have in mind to boost my GH5 with one of these. Thinking at what you sad about the amps, the original GH5 battery has 1.86 mah, that is below 2 and far from 3. It is really necesary to have those 3 amps? you tested the 2 amps battery as well? thanks!
@TLDR_filmmaker

Hey Caius! Thanks for the kind words! TL;DR - I want the extra headroom just incase; better safe than sorry. Without going into too much theory, the official Panasonic AC Power brick puts out 8.4v 2.5a. I believe that when you place a reg. battery in the camera, the camera will do its own calculations to ensure it has the best battery life as you film. When the AC dummy batt. is plugged in, I think the camera will just go at max potential. That being said, I don't have a normal power bank that does 2amp to test, I always say it can't hurt to have the extra headroom just incase. However I will say i've attempted to power on my camera with a USB wall plug that only gave 5v 1.92a, and the camera would keep restarting. Hope this helps! Thanks again for watching!

When you plug that camera with the AC adapter, doesn't it gives a humm noise in the video recording ?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 2 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Alok! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! When using this USB system, I have not. If you hear a hum noise it could be a couple of things - The USB Block, the Power strip that the USB block is plugged into, and then lastly the USB converter to dummy battery itself. Those are the three things to look into to see if one of them could be causing the hum. For me on my Sony camera where I had a bad hum, it was the power strip. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Nice video, keep going! Thanks for all advices but i have a question. Everyone's talking about Power Junkie by Blind Spot. I have a Panasonic GH5s and some people say that with Panasonic, Power Junkie is least effective than other camera brands. But overall people recommend the Blind Spot solution. Don't know if buy "Powerbank Anker PowerCore + 26800mAh Quick Charge 3.0" or "Power Junkie" for Panasonic Lumix GH5s. Thanks!
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Ricardo! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I personally have not used a Power Junkie, but it looks to be a pretty good solution for people that want to use their NPF batteries (that they probably already have readily available). I don't think one solution is better than the other as they will all power the GH5s just the same. It really depends on your rig setup. If you are a documentary filmmaker where you won't be carrying around a monitor with you, just a camera and lens, then I would go with just a USB powerbank. This is much more streamlined, easier for you to recharge on the go, and can fit in your pocket somewhere. With the Power Junkie you are going to have to rig it somewhere on your camera making it more cumbersome to use. If you rig your camera up for cinema, chances are the monitor you have might be able to power your camera as well (kinda of doing what the Power Junkie is doing) so you most likely won't need it. In the end it comes down to personal preference with how you use your camera and which setup will allow you to move freely without feeling constrained. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!

Hey hey Jay! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! When I used to run this setup I had a little mesh pouch that I put the USB Battery bank in and used a carabiner and hooked it onto my belt loop. When I was on a tripod, I would hook that mesh back to the bottom of the tripod where there is usually a hook of sorts. I think that the reason that photography does not work is high pulse-currents associated with the shutter and filling up the buffer. Someone on an electronics forum once measured the current of an (already) older camera during taking a picture. The pulse-current was somewhat like 2,5 Amps. Only for a brief moment, but no problem for batteries. DC/DC converters however just cut out as they usually can't supply an overload or can't respond to them in a timely manner. Considering the amount of data that has only risen by now and the exceptional speeds at which memories are now read and written, those pulse-like currents are even more significant.

@@TLDR_filmmaker Good to hear. I'm now working on my own dummy-battery for my GH5 as it's about to be used as a webcam in combination with a Camlink-stick. Found a piece of nice, expensive type of wood in the wood-leftovers at work that is almost exactly the shape of the BLF19 battery with the rounded corners, so that won't be such a hassle. I gave up on finding an isolated DC/DC converter that fits in the space for the battery. Best I could find was a 1,1 Amp type. But I'm not too bothered. I never like putting a converter that will obviously get warm in such a confined space and you also never know if you run into trouble with EMI from the converter in such close proximity to everything else in the camera. But at aleast that's the story how I landed on your video ;)

@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom! Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad the setup is working for you! To answer your question, the additional wall plug is for a couple of things. 1) After my review, the original adapter I bought sold out and people purchased a different version that did not come with a wall plug. 2) The Anker power bank did not come with its own wall plug to charge, so the additional wall plug covers that while also pushing out enough power to charge up the power bank at its max charge rate. Hope this helps! Thanks again for checking out the video!

No problem! Yes, I have my dummy battery plugged straight into the wall adapter when I'm filming my youtube videos. The little square buck converter regulates power going into the battery so that it stays consistent regardless of using a wall adapter or USB powerbank.

Hey hey Hermes! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! When I am using this setup handheld on a rig, I have the battery bank sitting inside my tactical hip pouch so that I have range of movement and keep the wire away from the camera. If I am on a tripod, I use the included Anker USB battery bank pouch and hang it on one of the tripod knobs. I haven't really found a need to have the battery actually attached to the GH5 itself as the wires would get in the way of the camera buttons making handling the GH5 a bit odd. Hope this helps! @TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker Жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Enrique! I'm not entirely sure if you can as I don't have a GH6. My guess is there might be some issues in certain modes because the GH6 needed a more powerful battery than the GH5. Even if you use the double USB version you may still run into some problems. I would say check for newer USB to GH6 battery types and see if they adhear to the newer battery needs. If it uses a USB-C instead of USB-A, that may be a good sign that it'll deliver enough power for the GH6.

If I'm buying the Anker Powerbank 26800 for 3 devices running at the same time( GH5 - BestView Monitor 7inch and Zoom H4N Pro), will it work?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings Cédric! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I'll be replying to your question here since the other comment is asking the same thing. This will purely depend on that specific Anker Powerbank as well as what your devices require. What I mean by this is if the powerbank is capable of delivering the full 5v 2a in each port when. In the case of the powerbank you are looking at, it does seem to be able to deliver the full amount if each port is plugged in. The next question is how much power does the Bestview Monitor and Zoom need? This is where it gets trick because most monitors won't tell you and you may need to purchase a USB adapter to get a high enough voltage to the DC monitors port (This is the hard part, getting a good USB to 9v or 12v with enough Amps(a) depending on the monitors needs) Lastly is the Zoom, some of these may require the consumer max standard 5v 2.4a. Unfortunately without personally having these equipment and testing it myself, I can't guarantee this setup will work even if the math checks out for how much all the equipment will draw. The wild card is the Monitor most likely needing a higher voltage than the others. If you were to run the Zoom (assuming it has a USB power port like Sound Devices) and the GH5 off a powerful USB battery bank, you should be ok. Adding a monitor into the mix could be tricky and you may want to look at a powerbank that has a USB-C port that supplies much more power...but the problem is then getting an adapter that converts the power. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and hope to see you in the next one!

Hey hey Rob! Thank you so much for checking out this video, asking a question, and subscribing! As long as the battery bank, no matter the brand, is capable of delivering 2.4a, then it will work. Technically 2.0a or 2.1a is enough, but id like to be on the safe side and have a little more headroom. Now the only kicker for battery banks that have multiple USB ports, sometime manufacturers trick you and say that its capable of 2.4a, but if you begin plugging in more stuff at the same time, each port divides that 2.4a causing the device to not get enough current. With USB battery banks, they need to have a constant draw of energy for them to keep on. If you power the camera on with the USB bank and then power down the camera for awhile, the USB powerbank will also cut power after a few minutes. To activate power again to the camera, simply click on the battery check button on the power bank and it will "wake up" and feed power to the camera again. This is just a feature of powerbanks to ensure they don't continuously drain. Hope this helps!

Either the converter portion has gone bad or potentially when transporting the wire the something inside got pulled and frayed the wire internally. The only way to know for sure is if you have a voltage meter where you could check the dummy batteries contacts to see if power is being transmitted as either a 7.2-8.4 voltage. I'd see if Amazon can get you a replacement, since its two months later you may need to email Amazon directly instead of going through the normal replacement process. Hope this helps! @TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Clyde! Thank you so much for checking out this video! Assuming you have the same or similar USB Dummy Battery in this video, a lot of the powerbanks these days will provide at least 2.1amp out of the USB port. I only specifically choose that Anker that gives out 3amps to be on the safe side. To be on the safe side with whatever powerbank you use, I would suggest running a test and let it record continuously to see how long your battery bank gives you and just to see if you run into any trouble. In theory you should be fine as I don't believe the GH5 runs at max 2amp when recording 4k, it might actually be a little lower. But still, run a test with your setup, and this being your first time working for a client. As a general rule for me, I always still bring a couple GH5 batteries with me, just in case something happened to my powerbank. However with my more recent review about the Andycine A6 monitor, I now always use that monitor and power my camera through the monitor itself. Hope this helps my friend, thanks again for stopping by and have fun at the shoot!

Hey hey Erik! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Unfortunately I do not know how Sony cameras handle USB power management compared to a battery being inserted as I do not own any Sony cameras. One of the reasons why I believe I'm getting 6 hours instead of even more, even though I have a pretty large battery bank, is because the GH5 goes into AC power mode instead of Battery mode. This is all determined through how much voltage is being fed to the camera. AC mode uses a lot more power because it's not concerned with conserving power like in battery mode. Hope this makes sense! Hi, what power bank ( Amp) do you recommend to a GH5?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Elio B! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! For me, as a general rule, I just look for 2.4a USB battery banks for everything. There is not ill effects for buying the highest amp versus the older 2.0 and 2.1a. This simply just means how much power it can deliver to a device, if the device does not asking for 2.4 but instead is asking for less (as most electronics do), then the USB is only going to deliver what is asked by the device. So therefor, I just get 2.4 usually. 3.0a isn't as common and I only purposely went looking for one just to be on the safe side that I'd always have enough power delivery. I have used 2.4a with the USB battery for the GH5 and it's worked just fine. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Hey hey Dan! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Yes, it's normal for these USB powerbank's to automatically power off if it doesn't detect a power draw. It will usually turn on the moment it's plugged into a device, or as you said, when you pressed the little side switch to check the battery levels. No, the Anker will not power down after certain minutes so as long as the your GH5 is on (not recording) or recording. In these cases the Anker will continuously provide power until you shut off the camera and leave it off for awhile, or if you unplug the USB. Hope this helps! @@TLDR_filmmaker Have you resolved why it does not take photo?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's all detailed in the part 2 video, definitely check that video out as you'll need to do a certain setting to allow Custom WB to work if you are out in the field with the USB power solution and forgot to set your white balance. The limitation is that you can only take photos in "Electronic Shutter" mode. The way the USB converter works is it supplies about 8.4 volts to the GH5 which causes the GH5 to believe it's attached to an AC Power Adapter, so its power functions changes "AC MODE" which uses power differently than when the GH5 is in "Battery Mode". From what I can tell, if someone made a converter that only supplies 8v, the GH5 should then go into "Battery Mode" and allow you to use the electronic shutter. But since this power solution is more for people that want to shoot extended videos without having to use a lot of batteries. Its not a major deal breaker. I only looked into the Photography problem because the question came up.

Id probably check other youtube videos to see what their suggestions are. Although one thing to note is that the electronic shutter can't stay open as long as the mechanical shutter, so depending on the suggested nightlapses settings, this USB battery may not be able to do it since you can't use the mechanical shutter. Greetings William! Thank you so much for checking out the video and commenting! Hmm... yea that does seem spotty now, when I purchased this over a year ago there were no reviews to go off of so I used my multimeter to test the voltage that was going into my GH4 and GH5. All I can say is that I'm still actively using it ever since, I use it for my youtube setup so that I don't have to worry about batteries as well as my timelapse setup when I'm reviewing film equipment that operated on batteries to see how long the batteries last. I'm not sure if maybe they changed something in the product later on? Because my version is strictly capped at 8.4v 2a output. Where as this one now says it can go between 7.2 and 8.4v. My guess is thats where it could get wonky if its shifting voltages all over the place and the GH4 and GH5 get confused on the battery status as it jumps between thinking its on Battery vs AC. Just a hypothesis of what may be going on. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and hope to see you in the next one!

Hey Braden! Thank you so much for checking out the video and commenting! I don't have a image handy, but I can give you a rough idea depending on what your setup is. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I believe the cable length is around 16-20 inches, I'll have to double check tomorrow. 1) When I'm running and gunning at a live event, I actually have the USB Battery Bank in my pants pocket, the cable is a decent length for me to hand held my GH5 and move it all about. 2) When I use it with a tripod, there is a draw string pouch that comes with the USB Batt Bank, I use that and hang it on any hooks on my tripod so that when I'm a tripod, its held, if I need to go handheld all the sudden, I would put the Battery in my pocket. 3) Gimbals is where it can get tricky and I generally don't use this for gimbal work, but if I had to probably use a velcro tie to condense the wire down but enough slack so that the gimbal can move freely. What kind of camera setup do you usually do for your video work?

That is definitely one way to do it! If you are handy with a solder iron and you want to shorten that cable to be more compact for that type of setup, its actually not too hard to cut the wire to length and solder them back together. Hey hey again Luminari! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! The 3a is only achievable if only one port is used, if both ports are used I don't believe it will hit 3a. However, the feelworld Master 5 has a port that allows you to power your monitor and camera off of one Sony NPF battery. Perhaps that may be the best way to go? Otherwise there are some Powerbanks where it has a 9-12v DC plug along with the USB. So you have two options at that point. 1) You can use the 12v from the power bank into the MA5 (I think it uses 12v), get the dummy battery adapter from Feelworld and now you should be able to power the monitor and GH5 through the monitor off of that one powerbank. 2) Have the DC port from the power bank go into the monitor and then the USB adapter battery into the GH5 The powerbank I am thinking about in question is this one. amzn.to/2IVQMV6 (affiliate link) We used this battery to power the old school BMPCC 1080p with the 12v, and then use the USB to power a wireless monitor module at the same time. The problem in the MA5's case is you will need a DC cord that has two different sizes because this Battery banks DC port is small from the more standard CCTV 5.5mm Hope this makes sense and helps! Does the GH5's battery level indicator track the battery level of the USB power bank? BTW, I have seen other external batteries not work in time lapse mode. Not sure why time lapse doesn't work, as it would be an ideal situation for when you need to leave the camera on for an extended period of time.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Dave! No, the battery meter won't track the actual USB battery life. That would be awesome but unfortunately for that to work a dedicated chip stripped from a decoded Panasonic Battery wired to the correct ports could deliver that information (I did it a long time ago with a Canon T3i battery) For now just looking at the USB Battery Banks own battery status lights work to give an idea. The timelapse mode does work, I use it, you have to make sure you select your shutter to use Electronic shutter instead of mechanical shutter and operate the GH5 in Silent Mode. I talk about it here in this follow up video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eK91pc-Ers2XZac.html The reason, I believe, you can't use the desired mechanical shutter is because the battery protocol most likely needs a larger burst of current from the battery to work. But the USB power bank convert is not able to deliver this (at least this specific USB Battery option). There is however a newer type of USB Battery for the GH5 that requires two USB ports at full power. This allows enough current to get through and be able to use the Mechanical shutter if desired. That video can be found here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pNuXqZphqa6lpZ8.html Hope this helps!

Hey hey 熊阿貝教學! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! The newest version that I reviewed here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pNuXqZphqa6lpZ8.html Will help you get those super long timelapses, mainly because it uses two USB plugs instead of one. If you only had the One USB version, you simply need to make sure that you have a power bank that is large enough to last that 100hrs in time-lapse mode of your camera. And of course it depends on how many photos you are talking in that 100hrs. For the most part the GH5 goes into a sleep mode that does a very low draw on the battery, thats how it's able to do longer timelapses if the photos are taken more than 1 minute apart. So as long as your battery bank is large enough to sustain the very slow battery draw you should be good. The dual USB version will allow you to change out one of the USB Battery banks so that you can continuously swap over and over again until the timelapse is done. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Hey.. if the buck convert says it needs 5V and 2-4A... but I have a power bank that can output 5V and 4.5A(max), is this dangerous for the camera as my power bank can provide more amps that what the nuck converter needs?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Max! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! No, having more amp will not damage anything. Having MORE VOLTS will damage a system. Long story short about electronics. Voltage always needs to match or be within range. Amps can be equal or more that stated because Amp is the measurement of current needed. So if something needs 2amps and your battery can supply 4a. That means you are good because your battery can support the 2amps needed at 5v. If you add another device that needs 5v at 2amp, you can do it i, because your battery can supply another 2amps at 5v. Thats a very very VERY basic way to look at electrical circuits, but hopefully this gives you an idea on what to look for to determine if a battery or powerbank is right for your needs. I'm just concerened about that sudden on and off at the start, in case it damages the camera.

@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings Joebaby! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! The reason you need to re-insert the USB into the Anker to power on the camera after it's turned off is due to the Ankers chipset features that don't continuously power a port just because its plugged in, thus constantly draining your USB power bank. So when the camera turns off, the powerbank believes its done charging and goes into standby mode. You actually don't need to re-insert the USB to turn it back on. On the specific Anker battery bank that I use, as well as many others, if you simply press the battery check button while the USB is plugged in, it will send power to the camera again. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and hope to see you in the next one!

Hey Alex! I'm not entirely sure, a colleague of mine had bought a NPF battery sled that plugged into a GH5 dummy battery and he said it did not work and returned it. But I have seen some people with NPF adapters on their shoulder rigs, I'm just not sure which ones they are using. In theory there shouldn't be a problem, the NPF battery provides the right voltage, but I think it needs some battery management to talk to the GH5 camera so that it knows how to use that battery and what voltage to use. Sorry I can't recommend anything at this time for NPF batteries. I would definitely still go the USB route because its much cheaper to get these batteries and also more versatile as more and more filmmaking gadgets are being charged by USB plugs. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the review. However there is nothing cool because inside the powerbank you have 4 x 18650 3.7V Li-ion cells in parallel and a DC DC booster to get 5V output. Next you have yet another DC DC booster which bumps 5V to 8.4V which is waste of energy because the total efficiency would be about 70% maximum. I mean, if they made a *single* DC-DC converter from about 3.7V to 8.4 then gh5 would film about 15% even longer.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings peschex0d! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! That definitely would a much better solution, I've been toying around with the idea of creating a similar single DC-DC setup and place the voltage where the GH5 believe its using a battery instead of AC power so that you can use the mechanical shutter. But for the time being, with the efficiency lose through this setup, the total cost to total time and operation really helps lower your needs to multiple batteries on a film set or event. I will be taking USB powered setup with me to NAB so that I don't have to fuss with multiple batteries when I'm on the floor. But I do agree, it would be nice to see a company that specialises with single DC-DC applications for the most popular cameras. But that may no longer be necessary because of USB-C and cameras are finally taking advantage of it! Exciting times for sure! Thanks again for stopping by! Hope to see you in the next one!
@peschex0d
@peschex0d 5 жыл бұрын
Hi TLDR Filmmaker, thank you for the reply. I guess the second DC-DC booster has some chip that makes output voltage higher that input, no matter of its exact value. I mean if there is no undervoltage control then it should be possible to power the 5-8.4 booster just from Li-ion cells. This would anyway take some higher current from a lower voltage source (even 4.2 is lower than 5V) but one extra DC DC stage would go away. Probably if one connected directly 18650 cells to the usb female output of an empty powerbank (where is no 3.7 to 5 converter board inside) then second converter would still deliver 8.4 to gh5.

Hey hey again Go Polaris! It's been awhile! It depends on what camera setup I am running. If I am running and gunning handheld, I have the Power Bank either in my pocket or a belt pouch. If its an action sequence I will opt for the belt pouch as I will probably be crouching in different positions, if I'm just at an event standing and covering candid shots I will just put it in my pocket. The wire is a decent length so it gives me freedom to move my arms around in this setup. If I'm on a tripod, I use the Anker included drawstring pouch and hang it off my tripods wire hook. Admittedly these are not the most elegant of solutions, but it gets the job done and I'm able to capture what I need without worrying about losing battery power in the middle of a shot. How does this compare to a gh5 battery grip?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 5 жыл бұрын
Greetings One Brown Cat! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! In terms of video recording, this specific USB combo will give longer continuous recording times. The main attraction of this combination is more for event videographers and narrative filmmakers where we have our cameras rigged up a certain way and we'd rather not have to move anything to change the batteries. With this dummy battery having a wire coming out, it's very easy for us to swap the USB power bank without dismantling the camera body. We can also use varying sizes of USB power banks depending on the camera mans needs. Lastly is the general usefulness of having USB battery banks on set, they serve a dual purpose and can charge other devices as well as the powering a camera. So from an investment standpoint, it may make more sense for some filmmakers setup to go this route instead of having multiple different types of batteries on set. Not sure if this is the answer you're looking for, but hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and hope to see you in the next one!

I can definitely do that to give the general audience an update. To save you the wait I've been using this adapter ever since I got it (a year ago to the month) I use it between USB power banks or just plugging it into the USB wall plug and haven't had any problems with it for filming or doing 7hr timelapses on my LED panel battery test videos. In "part 2" of this video topic, I cover the weird parts where you have to change some settings in your camera so that it uses the electronic shutter instead of mechanical if you want to be able to capture a custom white balance or if you want to do timelapses. Other than that its been working great for me for a year. It has definitely been very convenient for me in terms of not having to carry multiple batteries, or if I'm filming in a place with wall power that I can just plug it into the USB wall plug.
