If golf is your world, the Approach S70 is your watch. With a gorgeous 1.4" AMOLED display, this premium smartwatch brings over 43,000 courses to life and has all of the tools you need to lower your handicap. The improved virtual caddie feature recommends a club based on shot dispersion, elevation, and other factors. An upgraded PlaysLike Distance feature leverages a built-in barometer, so you’ll know how far each shot is playing. And on your way to the hole, preloaded green contour data gives you insights into slope direction of the green with an active Garmin Golf app membership. The slim, fashionable design looks fantastic both on and off the course, and it includes features that will help you with your training and lifestyle, such as strength, yoga, and running. Also, here, you can get heart rate and advanced sleep monitoring for an added edge on the course. And when it comes to battery life, with up to 16 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and 20 hours in GPS mode, there will always be time for another round.
Bushnell is well-known for its golf rangefinders, but the new Ion Elite GPS watch elevates it to the ranks of the top golf watch brands. This is certainly one of the most attractive watches, particularly with the sporty black strap. The watch itself is quite compact - slimmer ones exist, such as the Shot Scope X5 or Garmin Approach S42 - but it does not interfere with your swing in any way due to its size. The Ion Elite's navigation is easy, which I enjoy. There is only one button on the side that functions as a back and on/off switch, which is easy to understand. Everything else is accessible via the touch screen, which is bright, crisp, detailed, and responsive. Where this watch stands out is its Slope feature, which is uncommon even among the top golf watches and is accessed through the golf settings. You can turn the Slope function on/off, or if you want to ensure that your Ion Elite is fully legal for competition play, you can select the tournament mode.
The T9 redefines what a smart golf watch is capable of. This watch is sleek, stylish, and lightweight. With its dazzling silver bezel, it has off-course adaptability, which adds to its value. The color, reflective LCD touch screen is brilliant and readable in all lighting circumstances, and it is extremely responsive, requiring few repeat swipes unless wearing a glove. The primary screen covers the basics of yardages - front, center, and back - but there is a slope icon on the left. This is because it accounts for slope on distances to improve accuracy. To disable this feature and make the watch legal for competitive play, simply enable tournament mode in the settings. The main screen also shows the hole number, par, and your current score, presuming you're entering it as you go. The T9 will also provide the distance and elevation difference to the hole. This will come in handy during social rounds when you can't tell whether a putt is uphill or downhill. You may also choose a putt position 90° from where you're actually putting to get a feel for the amount of break!
If you can afford the additional cost, the Garmin Approach S62 does all the S42 does and more. Garmin's Virtual Caddie software recommends clubs based on wind speed and direction, as well as the average distance you swing with each type. You can check the wind before taking your shot, and there's a full vector map with touch aiming, which lets you see the distance to any spot by simply tapping the extra-large 1.3-inch screen.
