Sleight of hand, I watched an ad for penn and teller (professional magicians) and one of the things they said which I can assume is what murray did, and that's to speak or make a noise that kind of masks what you're doing, you have to keep their attention away from what you're trick. Hopefully that wasn't just a word salad, but I'm pretty sure that's what he did
