I also always considered the headphone output impedance source when selecting a headphone to use ( not having a headphone amplifier that can drive different ohms loud enough )

I love this comparison. In my country at market place only import slate vsx 2. Is it much better than your vsx that might be version 1?

you are the first to say NDH 20 lack bass. all the other owners, myself included, say they have a lot of bass, with the bump at around 160 hz, but maybe it's genre dependent. I like retro, acoustic, orchestra and golden era pop so at moments I wish they had less of that 160 hz area. I agree about Ndh 30 they are flat as a ruler, nothing ever sticks out

Have you heard the HD 490 Pro? It is apparently closer to the HD 560S and NDH 30 and is meant to sort of replace the HD 600 and HD 650 for mastering work.

If you listen/measure different headphones of the same model they are always a little (and sometimes more than a little) different and that is one of the reasons why general EQ corrections are far from perfect. I am sure the Neumann NDH20 you tested is an exception, find another one and listen to it.

Great video. Is the Neumann NDH 30 upgrade from Sennheiser HD650/HD600? Maybe some sound comparison?

Yes, definately. I longer have all those headphones, I borrowed them for a comparison, nor I have a special head model for recordings, but the difference in sound detail and mid-range clarity should be huge in favour NDH-30 :)

@PoloTremolo What a great video. And the comparison chart helps a lot. Quick question: how tight is the clamping force on the Slate VSX and on the DT900 Pro X’s? Comfort for longer sessions is a big thing for me, and what bothers me the most is always clamping. I’d appreciate it a lot, you could give a hint.

I actually like my VSX a lot and very often I plug it into my iPhone and go for a walk. After 30-40 minutes I feel no fatigue whatsoever. This headphones are not heavy so I guess you want feel discomfort. However if you’re really into something super comfortable, I would suggest going with very light Sennheisers 650 or 490 Pro, but these are open back- so a little less versatile and some have high impedance so we can only use them in your studio. Drt900 are also great. I guess they will give you a little bit more detail in the high-end - still I find Vsx just a little bit more enjoyable and the plug-in emulation is really useful

Good choice! 👍 I am using Antelope Audio Discrete 8 pro. With this Beyerdynamic model I would aim for interface with at least 110 dB of dynamics on headphone amp. Also, check the output impedance, the lower the better, avoid interfaces with headphone output impedance higher than 10ohm for these low impedance headphones:)
