That referee of the Ruddock v Dokes fight deserved to get knocked out in the same way he let Dokes take completely unnecessary punches and then fully counting him out when he was completely unconscious.

The referees in the Cooper v Erskine and Ruddock v Dokes fights were both a disgrace. The former fight should have been stopped well before the final KO and Dokes should have been given a standing count because only the ropes prevented him from hitting the canvas.

That was normal reffing back then. The fight game has changed since the 90’s with trying to intervene at first sign of fighter not being able to defend himself due to the acknowledgement of CT.

@@guywilliams6569 Nothing to do with a standing eight count as in the amateurs. If a fighter is prevented from hitting the canvas by the ropes breaking their fall then that should be classed as a knockdown and a count administered.

@@guywilliams6569 Perhaps you have a case with the early fight but in the case of the Dokes fight the rules were not followed by the referee. If the fall of a fighter is broken by the ropes then the referee should treat it as a knockdown and commence a count. The fight was in 1990 and I have no reason to think the rule did not apply then.

@@guywilliams6569 Firstly the ref was way too far away from the action in the first place. It looked like he had gone outside to have a smoke. And secondly if he could not see the shot that landed Dokes on the ropes then he should not have been refereeing.

The last punch on the Dokes vs Ruddock fight was totally unnecessary. Dont tell me that the referee AND the other boxer didnt know he was already out and on his way down. Morrison's knockout was beyond criminal....

3:38 Michael Dynamite Dokes had 15 fights after losing to Donovan Razor Ruddock, and he won 12 of them, certainly not his last fight.

I enjoyed these heavy weight knock outs, as they were heavy, and knock outs, as without them being heavy, they aren’t heavy weight, or if they’re not knock out, they’re not knock outs, but these were both heavy weight and knock outs, and made for an enjoyable watch. Thx

Mercer vs Morrison was my fav. Mercer found out that TM was using oil based steroids. RM knew eventually TM would lose his energy after a few rounds.RM took a beating in the meantime. TM was knocked out before he hit the canvas.

Patterson dodged Liston as long as he could, fighting inferior competition until he had to defend his title against Liston. In the second fight you could see Patterson was afraid to come out of his corner.

Dokes did NOT retire. He had 15 fights after his loss to Ruddick. Brock was NEVER heavyweight champion.

That’s how they reffed back then. You can’t judge people from the past by present time. The acknowledgement of how damaging head trauma can be with CT changed the boxing refereeing in the last 20 years.

Sonny was actually holding Patterson when he landed the first shot that hurt him. He had Patterson’s arm pinned up with his own arm behind Patterson’s neck completely exposing Patterson’s chin. He won, but in a dirty way. Glad Ali kicked his ass.
