I got the chance to use this for about two weeks some time in July and I was absolutely sold! Because I move around a lot, I love how portable it get! I love the central dial that makes it feel like the Apollo and I just realized from what someone said in the comments that it never crashes, especially with windows! It may not have the fanciest lights and all of the pretty stuff, but once you start using it, you get the hang of it pretty quickly. I also love the output level switch at the bottom that lets you choose between 3dbU and 19dbU, I think that's pretty cool! I'd definitely love to own one when I can, if for nothing, at least for the portability!!!

I have owned the older version and have used the new one as well. The preamps and durability are unmatched on both, but I think i love the older preamps more than the newer ones. It maybe because im used to the particular sound it has and have to relearn how to make the most of the new preamps but they are def different.

I love my babyface pro fs, was up and running with no hiccups or problems. I just got to work and start recording with ease, and the sound quality is awesome! Super clean sound and quiet inputs. It took me almost 6 months to get used to my focusrite sapphire 56 and how it operated, a lot of troubleshooting, which was horrible and still till this day 🤦🏽‍♂️

What sample buffer size can you get away with on that bad boy? I’m sometimes struggling with anything less than 256 on my MOTU, which is pretty sad. Hoping my new Babyface will handle 64 or less without breaking a sweat. About a week till delivery.

Hey Wayne, it actually does have phantom power capabilities on the front of the unit. If you're in Class Compliant mode or have the default key commands active, select the appropriate mic input channel via the IN and SELECT buttons, then press the SET button and phantom power comes on - without having to use Totalmix. The functionality of this unit goes far beyond what you see, which is why the manual is so thick. I've had this unit for over a year now and it's phenomenal. I got mine for around 700 dollars brand new through company discounts and other connections I found online. That said, I would pay full price for this and other RME units many times over because it's a swiss army knife for all different kinds of audio engineering needs. Class compliant mode is amazing because I can connect this to almost any Android/every iOS device or computer (Mac or Windows) without having to install additional drivers and it just works. With the RME drivers, performance is even better. A solid unit for anyone doing serious production and mixing.

@@flowmaka I honestly reckon the Pre is cleaner in the RME. You don't get the UAD marketplace access but as a Windows user for 10 years with the babyface and then babyface pro I have never had an issue and used mine on countless records, major and independent. You'd be surprised at how handy the 3.5mm headphone jack is and also the 4 inputs for recording on the road.

Has anyone used a MOTU Ultralite as an ADAT input into Babyface? Curious how well that worked for you? Just purchased my first RME interface with the Babyface Pro FS, hoping to use my Ultralite MK4 as a standalone mixer for 8 extra channels into the RME. Think I’ll notice any quality difference in instrument/line in through the MOTU, vs directly into Babyface? I imagine the mic pres will be the most obvious difference.

Maybe the price is higher because it ships from Germany to US. In Europe it costs around 800 EUR to get it. We get the same price difference here in the EU when we buy hardware made in the US. My comment on your rating is that I would give it 8.5-9 on the price. This is one of the best soundcards on the planet? Also, in the price, RME factory supports aftermarket with parts and a network of electronic engineers that can fix your card no matter what happens to them, and they offer recycling for older units. RME develop their drivers internally and they actually hacked the USB protocol to make their own interfaces faster than the competition. The price is right, the soundcard is the heart of the digital studio and RME is the most professional interface maker available. I have an RME soundcard that works for more than 20 years now, around 16-18 hours per day every day. I have changed operating systems for 7 times, changed sequencers (Cool Edit --> Acid --> Logic in Windows --> Nuendo --> Sonar --> Reaper), and changed my PC three times completely. I serviced the unit two times after a PSU failure from bad power, with original parts at very low cost. This soundcard is still a beast! Looking to buy the Babyface FS Pro because I'm switching to a minimalistic setup. Thanks for the video!

Hey E-1. Hey Wav. So, I'm old school and that thing is a tradesman everyday tool. Phantom power button not wanted. I want critical reliability over convince always. Chech out their other companies' links. Amazing gear. Some of the top engineers anywhere. RME own's the future. Past and present also. Dedicated 3 wire mains. Pair of wall receptacles just for you. Journeymen starts there. Then inline continues uncoupled backup power A ultimate finale noise filter. Server rooms/computers have dirty power, so it too gets a Dedicated 3 wire mains/ uncoupled backup power. This time gating the noise from house power. Pro tip given here at Waves. Kenman

The RME is far superior to the Apollo. The pre amps are better, the latency is better and the conversion is better. Yes, you get the DSP shenanigans for plugins on the Apollo and I have both and use the Apollo for the SSL suite for mastering as it is superb if you use lots of plugins simultaneously but I track through the RME and I can tell you, it’s much better in every regard when it comes to actual recording. The Apollo preamps do not come close to the RME, they sound muddy and veiled whereas the RME is completely transparent. When comparing the two the Apollo does sound as though it has slightly more body to the sound (in microphone recordings through the pres) but the trade off is with that comes an overall cloudy sound whereas the RME is transparent and very open, especially in the mids and high end.

I third this. Apollo is good but the conversion is waaaay better in the Rme. I’ve had the Apollo twin and it was good. Not bashing on them at all. If you’re looking for those great plugins that’ll cost you a kidney then go for it. But rme cost $1000 for a reason

@@jltbk5420 Absolutely! RME smokes the Apollo! It just does, it is unfair to compare them really, the RME conversion and the pre-amps are completely pristine, no colouration, no artefacts - what you put in/you get out. The latency on the RME is the best in the industry. Like I say, you can’t really compare them as the RME is better: Better Pre Amps Better conversion Better Latency Better Support Better Software (total mix is ridiculously powerful once you get your head around it.

In comparison to the Apollo X and the RME sounded transparent and the Apollo sounded ‘cloudy’ and definitely had a colour to it whereas the RME is completely transparent! Also, the RME drivers on Windows are the best in the industry. Saying that RME doesn’t have a chance against the Apollo is just not true. I have both interfaces as I use the Apollo for the SSL PLUGINS but the RME is better in every respect. The Pre Amps on the RME are far superior, I don’t rate the Pre’s on the Apollo and all that unison stuff with the plugins is good I’ll grant you but as straight in pre’s the RME embarrasses it.
