I had a 750 in 1975 . ( my second one) It wasn’t as quick as the first one I had and in 5th gear would pull maybe 110 mph downhill. It just wasn’t the 120 mph plus that my first one was. The dealer sold me the front sprocket down One tooth! It accelerated way better and topped out at 115 mph . Fast enough and changed the whole experience of the motorcycle.

I installed a 16 tooth front sprocket on my 2019 Honda Monkey and was very pleased with it....now I can down shift to 3rd gear going up hill and/or into the wind and maintain my speed. So I tried a 14 tooth and was very disappointed with it....sure, the bottom end is a little quicker, but that's it. I went back to the 16 tooth front sprocket and love it. I made 3 speed runs with all 3 sprockets on the same flat 2 mile stretch of flat road in both directions and recorded my speeds using my GPS in nearly calm weather:: 15 tooth - 57 MPH 16 tooth - 55 MPH 14 tooth - 56 MPH I like the performance of the bike best with the 16 tooth, by far. You can use all 4 gears around town instead of only 4th gear. I have yet to upgrade any other feature on my bike, so far. and these guys may not understand, the 14 tooth has a 5+ MPH discrepancy on the speedometer/odometer vs. actual...I can hit 70 mph....down hill in a draft.

Hello, it depends on what you want: better acceleration or more top end? Going down a tooth will give you more torque and help improve acceleration on the low end. Then adding another tooth will hinder acceleration but deliver higher top speed.

It is a false reading from the speedo. All Japanese bikes indicate a speed of about 10% faster than true speed. Use a GPS on your phone to get a more accurate speed. I have a friend who was riding his Honda Shadow 750 with me last week, and I'm riding an old Harley Sportster, which has a very accurate speedometer. After the ride, he ask me why I was going "so fast!". Lol.. He said dude, you were doing like 78mph the whole time! Lol.. In reality I was only doing the speed limit, which was 70.

I'm sure you know by now that the speedo is controlled by the transmission, not the front tire wheel speed, so all your measurements are going to be wrong. Mate the speedo is wrong as you change sprockets. 60 miles an hour before you edit the sprocket is really only 54 about 10% wrong. so when you change 15 to 14 tooth sprocket makes another 6%+ speed difference so 65 miles an hour you say is really just 54.6 miles an hour. it's really much less of a difference than you think. you are not going from 50 to 65 miles an hour you are going from 50 to 54 miles an hour. Do the test via GPS on your phone you will see. If you want more speed the cheapest way is install a PCX150 Injector ($30) also go 1 cooler on spark plug $5 then get a Chimera intake and with your existing upgraded exhaust you will be doing over 60 miles an hour. if you want more power do a type 2 cam and get an ECU for more top end power but that costs quite a bit more.

adding teeth to the rear sprocket is the correct way to go, using smaller sprocket on the front will cause your chain to wear out much faster and more likely to break. however when going with a larger sprocket on the rear, you will also have to buy a new ,longer chain. this is the way to go if you want to be safe.
