This is hands down one of the best flooring systems we have seen on the market today for horses, cattle, sheep and other pets like dogs. The comfort advantage is huge, the level product and ease of install makes it great and of course the ability to take it apart with out rubber pieces everywhere is awesome, check out the install of the soft stall in the Ramm stalls we own.

As a super long time horse owner; although this system looks slick and seems logical, it is too many pieces to insert, replace and maintain for the long haul in my opinion. Cheaper and healthier to punch a door to outside and let the horses romp in a paddock area to alleviate their pawing and pacing from being cooped up. Less fuss and happier horses.

Paddock attached to stall, ALWAYS the best idea!!!! Being confined to a prison all day for a horse is horrible.

Only took me 4 years to find you. Thanks for sharing this in-depth installation and your experience. There are so many materials now and I don't want one that absorbs you need bleach for after. Hope the product is still available. How are your Ramm stalls holding up now? Tim Anderson made his own this year with the same channel idea. Stay safe and thanks

I would recommend seriously considering run in stalls in the barn and run in shelters in pasture. Closed stalls are bad for horses physically and mentally.

sonseere10 Well when you board, sometimes you can’t fine barns like that. I wish my barn had that option but once I get my own barn I will 100% get run in stalls.

Thanks for the video! I just received a quote from SoftStall for five 12'x12' stalls and one 12'x24' stall. That said, can you or anyone using this product provide feed back on the current condition of your stalls after two years of usage before i make the investment? Thanks

Very interesting video. I can't find similar products in South Africa. What type of foam/ rubber is used for the bonded chip layer? Do they include additives for fire resistance? I have had sleepless nights before when thinking about stable fires.

thank you for your helpful video. The only thing I disagree with 100% is putting horses in 12x12's. I NEVER would. i keep my OTTB in a 36x48 and my other horse in 24x48. That is still small to me,

I'm curious. You mentioned this was great with in floor heating. So if your heating your barn then i presume it is sealed and insulated so you aren't throwing heat out the door. How do you maintain proper airflow in the barn without losing all your heat? Looking to build soon and love the look of this floor system on concrete
@RMSpeltzFarm
@RMSpeltzFarm 3 жыл бұрын
We heat only under the stalls to keep them from freezing and works great, the temp normally is about 45 degrees under the soft stall and then with the shaving on top insulated enough that none of the fecals and urine there each day doesn't freeze. That means we can sift shaving easy and clean easy and save money on 6 dollar bags of shavings. The only time if freezes on the top is when the air temp in the barn goes to -10 degrees then will start to freeze the urine in the shavings more for those few days. The little extra in propane we use to turn on that zone cost us about 10 gallons more each month that is on 24-7 in the winter compared to running that zone closed. FYI propane is about 1.90 dollars per gallon here when we prebuy in July.

@@RMSpeltzFarm Thanks for the quick reply. We are designing a new barn and so many different options and opinions out there. Already got a quote on the Soft Stall for it. Was considering about the concrete inground heating because we have Natural Gas access. I don't want to heat the barn but keeping the stall floors above freezing is a great idea.

I boarded at a barn that had this system, it was nice except they would not use shavings. It was so gross all the time because the horses urine would lay there in a puddle. And when they would lay down they were laying in their urine. It was so nasty. Plus it was super noisy when the horses walked on it. They definitely need shavings, lots of it too!!! Then I moved to a barn that had 12" of rock as the footing with sand on top. The sand broke down almost immediately, and there was nothing but shavings and rock. Horrible!!!! They refused to put mats over the rock. Just bad on the horses feet and legs.
