1st phone repair...replaced the battery and the charge port assembly. Success! SO far at least...powers up fine, and the new battery is charging up as we speak. Fingers crossed I did not miss anything, but this was the BEST of the 3 videos I found. The narration really helps! Thanks so much for your video, Jerry! HTC made this WAY more difficult than it needed to be, but it can be done! Yay!!! :)

Fantastic video. Gave me the confidence to replace my charging port rather than spend big money on a new phone. A bit of time and patience is all you need when instructions and vid are this clear. It's nice to fix things rather than throw them away and waste money on new items when you really have no desire for something new. Thanks!!!

Dude, thanks so much for putting this vid together! It helped me fix my M8 :D The issue with mine was: It wouldn't turn on no matter what button combos I did and for how long. When I plugged it in, the depleted battery logo would appear and the orange charging LED would light up, then the screen would go black, and the orange LED would turn off, then go dim, then bright, and the screen would turn on and display the depleted battery logo. I left it charging overnight, thinking maybe a charge would trickle in enough to let me turn it on, but nope. I found this video, replaced my Charging Port and Battery (and cleaned my duo cam lens cover while i was at it), and it works PERFECT now. I can even plug my phone into my laptop and get files onto and off it again!! So again, thanks for this video!!!

Thank you for an excellent guide! I was able to get the little charging board replaced without much trouble. I ran into a little difficulty on these points: I lost the little black power button when I opened the case...I didn't realize it could just fall out. Found it after a few minutes...but gotta be careful of that! I think replacing the speaker grills is necessary whenever you take this device apart, luckily they're cheap. May as well add them to the order. The antenna wire connectors ( my Verizon HTC M8 has two) were pretty tricky to re-attach, but with patience, not a problem. Again...EXCELLENT guide...More than enough information, some guides don't give enough, and make it seem like it's super-easy. Thank you SO MUCH.

+JerryRigEverything Looks like the USB charging port also contains (one of?) the microphones for the phone. My mic no longer works unless I use speakerphone since I replaced the board. I ordered the speaker part, but realized it doesn't contain the microphone before I tore my phone apart again. Do you know of a reputable source for another replacement USB/microphone/headphone jack board?

It was really hard... I had to hold it in place with tweezers, and press down with the flat side of a small screwdriver. It's difficult to "feel" when it's aligned right. I ended up REPLACING the little coax cables with spares from eBay. Just to be sure.

this guy is really cool, he had a very calm hand, at least one hand.. guys, if you're end user, don't do this, you need super calm extreme steady hand, calm and steady hand like a watchmaker's hand.. if you're nervous or had shaky hand, please don't do this, you'll damaged your board.. I already damaged by phone, but lucky I had some insurance to cover my device (currently, courier service are attempting to take my device to repair shop), if you're doing this, and forced to do this yourself, just take your time and relax, get enough rest, meditate and contemplate if you need... I really emphasize this.. if you don't, you'll regret..

I performed this repair yesterday and the video was very clear and helpful. Problems now are my power button doesn't depress like it should and the rear-facing camera doesn't work. Everything else works fine and the screen looks awesome. I can get the phone to power on & off by pushing really hard on the power button with a coin or something hard. I took the phone out of the housing and made sure I had the power button properly oriented in the case and that the power button / proximity sensor was in place. I repeated this disassembly and reassembly twice, but no improvement. It just seems like there is no "springy-ness" to the power button. Like something is missing? It looks like in the video there is a black square of plastic on top of the power button - which I don't seem to have. The power button / proximity sensor doesn't seem to have much if any adhesive on it, so even heating it up didn't make it stick down very well. Maybe I need to install some double sided tape under it? As far as the camera goes, I checked its connection on the bottom of the board prior to reassembly and it was solid. The rear led light works and the front facing camera works fine. Any advice on either of these problems would be most appreciated!

Nice video, but I just thought it is noteworthy to anyone doing a charging port replacement only that you do not have to remove the entire motherboard. There's two ribbons and a snap connector. Then you remove one screw and apply some light heat to the charging port board and gently pull it out. There's no need for the other steps if that's all you're doing.

Hi, First off gr8 video... Second, I had to get a replacement phone while still under warranty and the phone they sent looks and works the same as the old phone. However, It seems the wiring is a bit different and the main [motherboard] is different more wire connectors... I didn't take photos of the phone before I disassembled it [Highly recommended] so when I went to put it back together the wiring is different... as there is no place to put photos on here I will try to explain. With the dual camera on the right: there are 5 connections above the camera and a black and red wire connected below. On the Left side top [MB], there are 2 wire connections left of the power supply, 2 wires on the [daughter board] top left. on the bottom left [MB] 3 wire connections one is the black wire going to the bottom right. I have 5 wires to put back [(1)-black 1.5" (2)-white 1" and (1)-grey 3/4"... If anyone know where these wires go or have a wiring diagram please let me know... TY...

This was very helpful to see, although I still don't trust myself to fix my phone, it gives me hope that my phone can be fixed (charging port problem) and I can at least understand a bit of what a repairman can tell me about it. Is a fix like the charging port even worth getting to get it fixed? I looked up the pieces, and it seems pretty inexpensive, but if the labor of someone else fixing it costs a lot is it even worth it? I guess maybe I should just find someone who knows what they're doing, or take the time to learn myself. I just don't know if I trust myself to not break anything, haha.

Hi Jerry, thanks very much for the video, it was very clear and helpful! The problem you had with the power button falling out when you were reassembling the phone, if you put a piece of scotch tape across the top before taking it apart, the button shouldn't fall out -- a tip I learned from a video explaining how to fix mouse click mechanisms -- those teensy white buttons are something you definitely don't want to be struggling with. :-D Worked great here too. And it might be worth noting that people doing this repair want to get their iSesamo or whatever pry tool between the metal and the raised black border -- I wasn't sure, and scraped up a small bit of the black before it became clear to me. Thanks again! :O)

In the video you recommend replacing the external adhesive strips over the speaker & mic, but I can't find them on the site you link to nor on ebay when I search for 'HTC M8 adhesive' nor 'HTC M8 adhesive strip'. Do you have the link where you found yours or a recommendation of where to get them? (great video, btw! Much more thorough and much easier to follow than the other ones on KZfaq. Thanks!)

+Justin Pearman Hi Justin, you may have already figured this out, but what's being replaced are the actual grilles themselves, and they come with the adhesive already applied -- peel the whole thing off the paper, and simply apply it to the phone after cleaning off the old residue. These are crazy inexpensive -- I got mine on eBay, for only a little more than $3 per pair, looking OEM to my eye, and they had all of the colors available, so I picked up some red ones, along with the stock gun metal grey, and will try that out with my red case -- if it looks tacky, $3 ain't bad for the experiment. :O)

Does anybody know how to tell if you need the single or double pin for the charge port? The one linked is double but the phone I have is Sprint (32gb, non-HK). On Amazon one that they have says (Single): "HTC One M8 16GB (All Carriers) + 32GB Harmon Kardon Edition" and the other says (Double): "HTC One M8 32GB (Verizon and AT&T version) and HTC One E8." So neither version seems like a perfect match to me. Please help. On IfixIt for Sprint they show the single port: www.ifixit.com/Store/Parts/HTC-One-M8-Sprint-Charging-Assembly/IF285-008 So is that what I should get? Very confusing. Great video otherwise but seems like something that should be covered either in the video itself or maybe in the description.

Mine now has that quirky touch thing along the top part of the screen. When I go for notifications menu the app shortcut below it will also come alive and open up the app. Sometimes it won't let me touch a button within an app if it happens to be in this spot. Worse yet, this is a 6 month old replacement phone as the original one had a battery die. T mobile was going to exchange it but I also had a phantom rear camera lens cracked... With a case on and glass screen protector on front read: the phone didn't bend. So now they want me to send it in for an insurance paid repair... Of $175 and 14 week wait. Screw you. Anyhow just curious if the digitizer is apart of the screen or motherboard?

There's a lot more glue in the actual thing than shown in the video. The tape is also put on differently - it wraps around the cables so you can't just take it off like he did.

+lewis eyers Make you sure you check the flex cable going to from the sim reader to the daughterboard. turns out I wasn't careful while taking off the rear case and stabbed a small hole in the cable with my knife. This was enough to make it stop working. You have to replace the entire frame which has the microSD reader and sim card readers built into it....

Hi Austin, which flex cable you replaced? Mine look goods but having this problem.
@austin1943
@austin1943 8 жыл бұрын
Well, I replaced both because I went ahead and bought a new frame/screen assembly which has the simreader and microSD reader built in. The readers can only be accessed by removing the glass/lcd from the frame so its just easier to buy a new frame for what it's worth

Cedric Cheah might be late now but give that sim card tray a little push down, I had the same problem but figured giving a little push might help have a better contact and it worked!

Hi Jerry. I have a problem with my M7. I can't pull down the notification bar. But I can do so when it's in landscape orientation mode. I did a line test and I can't draw a line on the top part of the screen. What do you think is the problem?

The area around the Sim of the back cover isn't snapping over the phone. How do I know it's not going to break if I press harder?

Hi; I have done the Htc One M8 process of changing the charging port and battery and when I turn on the grainy pixelscreen appears, as when the signal is lost on the TV. You hear how it starts but you can't see. Any help as to why that happens to him? .Will I have moved the lcd screen when lifting the motherboard? It worked fine before. It was turned off by the battery the last time I saw him alive. Thanks

Is there a difference between a 6525 model and a 831c model HTC m8? Because everywhere I check they sell replacement screens only for 831c models and I have a 6525 model. Thanks.
