In today’s video we’ll be discussing the best index funds to buy for UK investors! I personally love index fund investing and it makes up c.50% of my overall investment portfolio, and in fairness, its a type of investment that is perfect for most people. It means you’re not trying to select individual stocks, you’re not trying to time the market, and instead you get broad market diversification investing in a large collection of stocks all in one index fund. Today i’ll share 5 personal favourites which are available on Trading 212, one of the index funds I may even consider adding to my investment portfolio!

It used to be a 165g pack of peanut M&Ms now that pack has gone up from £1 to at least £1.50p sometimes £1.90p. They introduced their share bag at 225 grams which we all know people scoff themselves with no intention of sharing. You consume more but also pay more while the smaller 45g bag is now very hard to come by.

Hi Mitch, great video and very informative. I've got some money in VUSA which i have been paying a small amount into it every month for the past couple of years. I've got some cash savings that I think would be wiser to have them in an ISA rather than in the bank. Is it better to make a one off big payment into my ISA or pay it in slowly month by month? Thanks!

Common misconception that the S&P500 has not lost money over a 20 year period. From 1989 to 2009 you would have lost money. I can't remember the percentage but it was on a fund backtesting site I found.

Depends if you want additional exposure to the US. VWRL is around 60% and VUSA is 100%. The VWRL has the same top 10 holdings than VUSA so personally I wouldn't pay the double the fee. You could have 4x funds (S&P 500, FTSE 100, Japan, Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets) this way you can dial up whatever region you want and is cheaper than VWRL

How does compounding work in investing? Let’s say I had £10k in S&P ETF and first year it grew 12% (so now £11,200). If the second year it grew a further 10%… is that an additional 10% on the original £10k investment (so now £12,200 total)… or is that a new 10% on the already accrued £11,200 (so now £13,420)… how does it work if the shares were never sold to achieve the new 10% growth? Doesn’t it mean just the original amount grew by a further 10% and not the first years accrued capital?

Not sure investing everything in risk 6/7 is necessary ? Also in the first 2 funds you are not investing in a packet of m&Ms but in one case yellow only and in the other red only so in reality they are active funds because you are choosing the sector and the geographical area they are invested in. For many people Invesco ftse all world ETf at 0.15% is a winner and don't people in general need accm when young and perhaps towards retirement change to distr? But thanks for the food for thought.

Helpful video. Considering the argument that the top companies in these funds are possibly overvalued , what is your view on Equally weighted Index funds?
@MitchShoesmith
@MitchShoesmith 4 ай бұрын
It’s a good question, I like weighted funds for the reason that the best performing firms push the value of your returns up, appreciate it’s a bit of a double edged sword but when such a small number of firms are driving most of the returns, I’d rather have a bigger weighting towards those stocks. No right or wrong answer, I guess it all comes down to personal risk appetite 👌🏼

Safest approach i feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown. its important to seek the guidance of an expert

@MitchShoesmith

Hey, the only reason I have VUSA is because it’s what I started with when the VUAG wasn’t available. I’d go VUAG now for convenience of dividend reinvesting so I don’t have to do it manually. In terms of performance the funds are the same but naturally your portfolio will compound quicker with dividends reinvested versus not.
