In 2022 most gamers rated the i5 12400 to be the best performance to price. Been conflicted on MBs, but I think the one you mentioned would do well. Paired with the RX 6700 XT or 6750 XT was what I was thinking or going with the 7600 that was just released. 32gbs of ddr4 at 3200 and a 750-850w semi to fully modular PSU seems straight. Think this is a pretty decent mid level 1440p experience that has room to upgrade. Get frustrated with case selection though. And PSUs are very expensive right now. But that MB selection seems great. I hate having to upgrade MBs, as it requires taking everything apart.

My i5-9600K was struggling to max out my 3070 in a lot of situations. And the 1% low fps was not always good. The turning point was Spider-Man Remastered where the 9600K was loading the GPU below 70%. Last week, I upgraded my system for a 13600K. Now, in every games and situations, the 13600K is maxing out the 3070. And it's so much smoother. For anyone looking fot this kind of combo, I strongly recommend going with DDR5. I bought a cheap 5200 CL38 kit from XPG. I will probably recycle it in another system in 1 or 2 years so I can buy a better kit at a reasonable price.

The integrated video on the K CPUs isn't just for content providers. It is extremely useful when setting up your PC and it's great for an additional monitor (I've got 4). Also, sometimes, oddly, the K is cheaper than the KF due to sales. For instance I got an i5-10600K for $200 years ago but the KF was $230. As always your mileage may vary.

I was aiming for 5800x3d but 13600k blew 5800x3d in most aspects. Lower power draw on gaming than 5800x3d, higher power draw by 33% on productivity But it's 50% faster. So it's a good trade. It even run structural computation COMSOL (I'm a civil engineer) nearly twice faster than 5800x3d. And value wise, the platform cost is almost the same with ddr4. As a value builder Intel really won this time imo. 7000series forcing ddr5 is a big reason to leave amd and go for intel this year. Same here mate. Was about to go for 5800X3D from a 5600X for my 3080. Glad I hold for intel 13th gen launch. Since DDR5 prices are nuts and performance it's not that different I'm going for DDR4. AMD served me well but 7000 implying move to DDR5 is just a no. Same aswell for Nvidia RTX4000 forcing to deal with new connector, case and temps.. forget it. Only thing I'm concerned about it's the cooler for the i5 13600K since I have a Masterliquid 360ML from CoolerMaster I'll need to buy new bracket for the 1700 Socket.

I'm always curios about 4K streaming as DDR5 might see a benefit on that scenario... CPU might show low usage during this things but memory does some extra job rendering those encoders for the game, camera and others things. Also how it might impact loading of heavy textures on real-time scenarios like using a speed-hack and running all around an open world at 4K (Horizon Dawn, GTA, etc...)

Thanks for the video, subbed. I redoubled my researching efforts after ordering a 13600k, AK620 and z690 aorus elite... because thats why I do, I order things and then research them in detail :D You put my mind at ease a bit hehe I think I did the right thing, my only worry is the 750w Corsair paired with a 1080ti which I am reusing until Q1 2023 (not sure what GPU to get), but I think I should be ok. Just did a i5-13600K build after watching previous videos. I went for a 1000W power supply for future GPU upgradeability in mind (bought a used 2080 Super for $300 to start with). I did go with DDR5 on a z690 motherboard as I thought it might have benefits in video editing and also got K for the iGPU. I got very high scores in a benchmark for Vegas Pro with this combination and for a total cost of about $1800 US. I will pick up a second m2 drive when prices come down to keep cache and swap files off the main hard drive.

I greatly appreciate the input on ddr4 vs ddr5. I've been battling this choice for a few weeks now. At this time, I'm still going z790 ddr5, because Im too scared to flash the bios on a 690, and I've read that 13th gen runs 30-50% slower on 690s. Could just be a tactic to buy 700 series board, but nonetheless. And I'm opting for a 5200 or 5600 16gb ddr5 kit. Pricing I've found is between 90-120$. I'm going to do that and in a year or so, if the pricing comes down, I'll upgrade kits. 16gb should suffice.

I'd go with 32GB 5200 which you should be able to find for $160 or so. Good z690s run the CPUs at full speed and flashing the bios is trivial if the mb has a dedicated USB slot for it. You just copy a file and push a button. I have a 13th gen i5 and Tomahawk z690 working happily here.

Can you please advise if there is anything I have overlooked and can improve in this? Also, I have seen the argument that even CL36 or CL40 DDR5 Ram, which has worse timings preforms better than current fast DDR4, what is your take on this? Keep up the good work, and thank you for everything you are providing for free. Cheers!

It depends on your application and how sensitive it is to RAM latency vs bandwidth. For example, DDR4-3200 CL16/DDR4-3600 CL18 provide ~50GB/s of bandwidth with 10ns latency. Your DDR5-5200 CL40 provides ~81GB/s with 15ns latency. What are your applications? Some workloads such as Excel, 7zip/WinRAR, code compilation and some games love the extra bandwidth DDR5 gives them and care little for latency. But some latency sensitive games might not react so well (however Raptop Lake's improved caches can mitigate this somewhat).

@@kirby0louise Thank you for your information, I have seen that the DDR5 Ram responds differently for different type of tasks, but in newer games the performance seems present. I can understand the login behind people who stick with DDR4, as when I decided to use the 13600KF I decided to leave myself space for "Future Proofing", but as Jason said, most likely by the time I need the upgrade, I do not think the better Ram will make a difference, but the DDR5 memory slot might, who knows. I disagree with the b660 mb, there are a few that are around 100$ less than the cheapest z690 and z790 that can easily handle this cpu, also nowadays overclocking is not worth it and overclocking this CPU better that what turbo boost can do is pretty hard even with some experience. The only reason I would recommend a z690 o z790 is because of more PCI lanes and USB, but even like that, premium b660 mb that cost the same as entry level z690 or z790 usually have the same specs on ports and PCI but premium b660 have more features like premium audio, wifi, Bluetooth. I like your videos since you always make good recommendations, but this time I think you made a huge mistake with b660 mb

Yes, In true data and game hoarder fashion likely am migrating games from 1 tb to 20tb. Main game I play is 96.3 Gb across all versions, so they are 4k file size or larger. The older titles aren't as bad though as far as hogging space. I moved games from 3 tb hdd to 1 tb next they will go on the larger one with perhaps the 1 tb as backup. Friend of mine years ago had 2 tb ssd for all his games, so I probably should have planned similarly. It's more about archival and being able to play whatever, than my actually playing the library. Have about 27 tb of storage now, not having room for whatever was giving me anxiety so horribly.

Hi Jason. Love your content. I'm playing mostly DCS World and some MS FS2020 (so both flight sim) and I'm planning to get the RX 7900 XTX when it launches. I wonder what CPU I should pair with this. Today I have the i7 8700 and I play in 3440 x 1440 on a RTX 3080. From all the test I read and watch it seems like the CPU will almost never be a bottleneck for games. Could I just as well go with a Ryzen 5600X for this setup? Unfortunately we rarely see DCS tested and in this sim-world there is a lot of stuff going on which is not necessarily shown on the screen, but needs to be calculated so maybe this is a more CPU intensive game? That said with the 3080 my current CPU seems quite relaxed...

I have just built a PC with an i5-13600K as a replacement for an intel 7700 that I use as my daily driver. I am not a gamer, but I find the gamer-creator community is a great resource for the computers that I build or buy for my family. I used a Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX motherboard and an NH-15DS CPU cooler. I chose the 15DS due to the narrow Fractal Design Pop Air case. The cooling is good with the HWMonitor reporting a 60 C CPU rise from idle to full load. Cinebench scores are 2176 for single thread and 24328 for multi-thread. The CPU package draws 168 W, with 225 W coming out of the wall receptacle. The power supply is RM650X 80 Plus Gold. Assuming 80% efficiency That is only 180 W measured on the supply side. This leaves about 470 W continuous for a graphics card. I have ordered two different graphics cards, the first is an Intel Arc A770, while the second is an MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090. The A770, with a total board Power (TBP) of 225 W will be used in my new daily driver. The 4090 will be used in a similar build with a refaned Pop Air, water-cooled with an Artic Freezer 280, and an RM850X 80 Plus Gold. This would make a great gaming PC but is a replacement for a work PC I built with an i7-12700K with a 3090 FE.

Any recommendations for similar content aimed at productivity/workstation systems? My application has no need for LEDs or non-integrated graphics, doesn't even require on board audio, but it does require highest multitheading performance possible and best burst speeds for data and lowest latency/highest frequency possible for RAM. Motherboards with great VRMs and thermals tend to be loaded with superfluous IO and gamer bling.

@@PCBuilderChannel Got the i5 13600k and thought I would be able to use my old RAM cmk16gx4m2d3000c16, after many days of troubleshooting with my MAG Tomahawk wifi DDR4 (done all the 13th gen flashing) and I could not get it to post. I looked on MSI's compatibility list and my RAM isnt listed, getting new RAM tomorrow so hope this is the issue but surprised that it wouldnt work?

Hey Jason! This is just what I needed! I did skew a bit from your builds a bit but only cause I managed a really really good deal up here in Canada. I have a 13600kf paired with a Asus z790 prime, managed to score a corsair ddr5 6000mhz also at a reduced price. Just awaiting black Friday for a psu and GPU. Do you think just a 1000w is sufficient enough?

Hey pc builder, I am building a 13600k system and was wondering if the MSI B660 mortar micro atx motherboard would cause problems. I would prefer a micro atx system but if this causes too many issues I could change to atx.

I'm about to build a new PC here in Germany and I find your videos very helpful, especially since i kinda got hyped on the i5-13600k as cpu for the system. Since I'm not the classical Gamer and mainly play high calculation power consuming games like Paradox Titles, Humandkind,.. but want to also be able to jump in more graphical intense games here. Apart from that i want to use the pc for office stuff and probably for some youtube video production. So I planned to save a little more money on the GPU and get a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti instead. I felt like with calculated wattage on PCPartpicker of 480W, I'd be finde with a 750W PSU in this case. On the other hand, i would've gotten 32 GB RAM, and since the prices for the Gigabyte Z690 Series are almost the same, and the difference between Kingston Fury Renegade 32GB DDR4-3600 CL-16-20-20 and DDR5-5200 CL40-40-40 is only 30€. Am I still overspending on the RAM here? I watched your RAM Video as well as the Z690/Z790 Video as well and learned a lot, maybe too much to process properly :D Thanks a lot anyways, great videos

Well did you changed something? I'm about to build pc as well so I'd like to know if you changed you mind on something. I feel like i should go with asus rog strix B760-A wifi because the overclocking won't change a lot and I could save some money there.

@@negus5534 It's running very smoothly and i can't complain so far. Went for the Z690UD with 32gb ddr4 ram and upgraded the gpu a bit more to a rx 6800. I don't know anything about the mainboards, but after watching some videos and comparing for a bit, i focussed on the gigaby z690 series very quickly since they were not much more expensive than the b660 series and seemed to be quite nice.

I really liked the GIGABYTE Z690 GAMING X DDR5 and considered buying one, but unfortunately, even if this is the DDR5 edition, it only supports slow DIMMs. It does not run with 6400Mhz CL32 G.Skill DDR5 modules.

9:48 "now If you dont care about the audio", I would like to know what the real difference is in that. I saw that there is line-in and line-out plug, but what in specific do they change? Is the Audio better that way? What can I expect? I also heard that updating the bios of the motherboard will require you to have a specific type of cpu to be able to do that, is that right?
