I bought one from ebay with a new battery, its so awesome! The DAC they used on this is so powerful its insane still blows me away 10+ years later. For example, I bought a pair of cheap but good headphones, ATH-M20x when I use them on my phone, I can barely hear the music, when I plug it into this I actually have to turn it down! It's such a cool little device way ahead of its time

If you convert videos with the handbrake converter with its accurate dimensions of the iPod it will work And honestly I didn’t mind watching series with it coz it keeps me away from social media and notification interruptions I even synced the whole Kanye West jeen-yuhs documentary and it’s resolution is fine by me coz it also come in small MBs after converting so I don’t even worry about my iPod storage being full

I firmly believe this was the best iPod they ever made and it saddens me that it's gone... I never understood why they didn't push ahead with this and then went to the touch screen. Of course in 2021 we're recording video and audio with 4K 60fps which would have been unheard of in 2009 (and 10 years from this comment who knows), but I remember using the 5th generation iPod and literally thinking things like, "I know the iPhone is better, but for a something that is marketed as just a music player, this is going way above and beyond."

uhm it is not even close to 4k its 480p and that was standard on youtube or on tvs at that time and 1080p already existed and was widely used

@@copy.floppy thats not what they mean, they meant that being able to record on a stand alone DAP (Digital Audio Player) is unheard of, as even if phones are better, the fact that this device cant connect to wifi makes it more special as this device make you more connected to the experience of what it was made for

This was the very best iPod nano. The click wheel, smartvolume.. all it needed was Bluetooth and they could have kept that one going. I don't want to touch screen I don't want to have to look at my device to use it when I'm working out or doing something else. The camera was not great, but it was neat for the time. I find myself looking for another one

I remember the first time I had this was my birthday and it's the first ever Apple product I've ever had. I love that it's so easy to just place your songs at itunes and you just sync the songs to the ipod nano.

I just bought an iPod Nano 5th gen two days ago from eBay! I never had any when I was growing up and my first Apple product was the iPod Touch 2nd gen! I had an Insignia mo3 player instead and I loved it so much! Now that I have adult money, I thought I want an mo3 player again and just saw dupes of the Nano, so I thought I'd check out this video and it's convinced me to bite the bullet and just ge tthe Nano! I love the pink colorway!😍 Reminds me of the old Fujifilm FinePix Z I've always wanted as well! What a time to be alive!

Don't use iTunes!!! Use iMazing to sync with these old iPods (or any modern stuff as well) and you can just copy your old music off onto your computer rather than losing it. iTunes is just a joke at this stage.

Unfortunately, I just "destroyed" my second 5th Gen device at the gym. I really like the 5th Gen over all the others and one reason is the ease of use (learning curve initially) and the FM Tuner. I used the heck out of the FM Tuner. Now, I'm looking for my 3rd 5th Gen iPod nano but I can't seem to find a new one. I don't trust the ones on eBay from China. My search continues.

The ones on ebay from China are fine. I just bought a 1st Gen Nano that way for 50AUD, and it's fine. The battery holds a charge as they say.

I had an Ipod Mini 4 gb and an Ipod 30 gb bought in 2007 (color display with games and more). Loved this device, but the color display iPod became obsolete in a couple of year because every phone could play mp3...It's incredible that youngest do not know the Walkman and the iPod at all...I'm 41.

Great video! I used the 5th gen for a good 9 years before the hardware started to have issues, at which point I "upgraded" to the 7th gen (I just love having a dedicated music player and love the Nano line). I really like the 7, but I agree that the 5 is the best. Good price point, storage, radio, camera, and design. Even though my original 5 is retired, it still sits proudly on my desk. I love that thing.

This was the best nano. It had coverflow, radio, a 12 hour+ battery life playing back and it was extremely silent and clean sounding

Anyone remember that the iPod shuffle used to have a version with no controls except the 3 buttons on the headphone wires, you long press the middle to get the voice to call out the albums playlists you downloaded. Well, if you plugged in those headphones into an iPod Nano 5th Gen, the same function was available.

Tip: If you have the acc files to the movies (like an mp4 file), you can convert it for an iPod via iTunes and drag and drop it to ur iPod.

I bought this type of ipod nano on ebay for less than $40 with 16GB but the audio jack is busted and the battery charge might be buggy but I can't really tell. Does anyone know if an Apple Store could repair one like this?

the camera is in the wrong place so when you hold it , it is covered by your hand and after heavy use, the battery expands and catches fire, it is such a shame that they didn't fix these issues, then it would have been great!

I still have one of this, it was forgotten inside a drawer. I had this silicone case so i thought it would be allright, but the screen got glued to the case and when I took it out the screen was broken :( is it even worth to fix it?

Did it turn on? If battery is dead, you have to use 1.5A to boost it up which most computer USB A port only offer 1A

I recommend getting a 3rd gen for just movies, but if you want other stuff get a 6th or 7th. 5th gens have battery isues

@@FjoreloFero oh my bad, itunes/apple music is also available on windows, it works vice versa, all you need to do is download apple music, then add your mp3 files, if your files are in lossless, i suggest converting them to aiff for apple music to support it, then you can sync your music to any ipods you own

I honestly don't like this model due to it not holding up over time. it's been stated in multiple videos multiple times that a few of these generations of ipod nano have battery issues, also they're very hard to repair

aah so that's what happened to mine... I had it stored in an old drawer and when I was cleaning the other day I took it out of its case and the screen was popped out :( not sure if its even worth it to repair it.

@@ReptilianLaserbeam if pop out too much the lcd screen might be damaged. For iPod nano 2, 4,5. Not worth the work. Take more than an hour to replace the battery and battery worth more than iPod itself. A good quality battery around $13

It's so frustrating that they discontinued these great devices. Have you ever tried working out with an iPhone 12 in your pocket? Undoable. The thing is a brick. It is especially frustrating that they discontinued the iPod Nano because the way technology advances, Apple could probably now make an iPod nano that holds a TERABYTE - yet is no bigger than any of its predecessors. I would throw my money at them in a heartbeat for such a glorious device. And perhaps above all, it's just a breath of fresh air to have a device that is solely for music. No texts, no email, no internet, NO DISTRACTIONS... just you and your music.

This is actually the worst iPod ever made as it was a victim of the black spot since apple made them so thin that the battery expands and puches out the screen and might explode. Trust me your money is better spent getting the iPod nano 7th generation with Bluetooth and no black spot problems.
